Ghost moves...

Recommended Posts

Hello,

nearly every time I leave the FSUIPC menu, the levers of my throttlequadrants "move" virtually.

Doesn't matter wich function (throttle, feather, mixture, flaps) is assigned.

E.g. I have flaps down during a flight and enter FSUIPC menu and go back to FS, the flaps in FSX will move to nearly the middle.

Same with throttles or feather...

I think that just happens with special assigned throttle controls for Addon aircraft.

I have no throttles assigend in FSX controls...completely removed any entry manually in the controls.xml

Any idea about this?

The only action FSUIPC does when you OK out of the FSUIPC options is save any changes you made to the INI file and restore all of its internal action tables according to the changes you made.

E.g. I have flaps down during a flight and enter FSUIPC menu and go back to FS, the flaps in FSX will move to nearly the middle.

Same with throttles or feather...

And this has always happened, with all aircraft? Or is this something you've changed?

Sorry, I'm not clear on what that means. Do you mean aircraft-specific / profile assignments? They won't change unless you relaod the aircraft.

Any idea about this?

No. As I say there's no mechanism is FSUIPC to apply changes to anything in FS unless it detects changes on the inputs. It must be seeing such changes, maybe through something you've programmed somewhere?

If you want me to help further I'd need more information. Axis logging would be useful as well as the relevant parts of the INI file. Your own analysis on what you might have changed to induce this would be useful, assuming as I must that it hasn'yt always been this way!

Regards

Pete

Now, I can just repeat this with the PMDG MD11...

But I had this even with other planes, but can only reproduce it with this bird actually.

Every time, really everytime when I leave FSUIPC menu, the flaps got to position "dial flap".

I don't press any button in FSUIPC menu, just open the menu and press cancel or ok...

This does not happen with any other kind of menu - not PMDG, nt FSX and so on.

I have two Saitek throttle quadrants, every quadrant has 3 levers.

The right quadrant has two unused levers (1,2) and the 3rd is for the flaps in the case of the MD-11

I have disabled of course tha other both levers vie FSUIPC axis assignment

I have found out that when I move one of the other two levers out of the lower position the flaps won't move from alone.

But when BOTH levers are down, the flaps move.

I've copied you all sorts of code below... hopefully we find sth

(the comments are not in the original FSUIPC4.ini of course)

Thats the dial flap...

But why and from what is it started???

By restarting the logging it is a little difficult to see what is going on, but do I assume that this

   864214 Macro: mouse action="PMDG_MD11.DLL":Xd4c0*Xa1cc

is what is moving your flaps? i do not know the term 2flaps dial" except as a gauge, not a control?

Near the end of the log fragment you had this:

   885399 *** Entered Keys option page ***
   887724 *** Exiting Keys option page ***
[Log closed by user request, and continued in new file]

Was there another repeat of the macro call then (presumably recorded in the next log?).

Do you always start a new log before each exit from the FSUIPC options menu?

Assuming your MD11 macro is number 1 in the Macro files list, then the operating statement is presumably this one, in the Axes stuff:

9=CZ,B,-780,2816,M1:33,0

So, possibly FSUIPC is somehow thinking it is reading a movement in the zone of that axis? If you could explain the meaning of that part, so I can understand what is intended, maybe I can relate it to the code in the range detection side of the axis assignments. I suspect you are making a lot more use of that than any one else, and you have possible found a logical weakness in the way i am detecting things.

Regards

Pete

Heres a complete log from starting FS to end.

Note, that first had to activate logging.

Do you always start a new log before each exit from the FSUIPC options menu?

not always, it was just in this case to show you the log.

Normally I have unchecked all log options.

the logfile above is now a new one; I've deleted the old log file before starting FSX.

Then I have activated the log options in the FSUIPC menu

The first two ro three times nothing happens, when FSUIPC menu is closed.

Then the flap starts to move as if by an invisible hand...

is what is moving your flaps? i do not know the term 2flaps dial" except as a gauge, not a control?

The MD11 has several Flap states

31=PED Flap up=RXd480*X8bcc -- means flaps up of course

32=PED Flaps Stats=RXd4a0*X8bcc -- means slats extended (Flaps one)

33=PED Flaps Dial=RXd4c0*Xa1cc -- means flaps to position "Dial a Flap"; you can choose the flaps range between 10 and 25

34=PED Flaps 28=RXd500*X8bcc -- flaps 28 and so on

35=PED Flaps 35=RXd520*X8bcc

36=PED Flaps 50=RXd540*X8bcc

And "Dial a Flap" is the position where my flaps move everytime i close FSUIPC menu

Assuming your MD11 macro is number 1 in the Macro files list, then the operating statement is presumably this one, in the Axes stuff: 9=CZ,B,-780,2816,M1:33,0

Yes, the MD11 macro is the first Macro.

And yes, M1:33 is the "Dial A Flap" entry which is executed by accident

Macro entry 31 to 36 is assigned to my right throttle.

I have made 6 ranges where the macro-commands were executed

I think thats this stuff in the FSUIPC.ini?

7=CZ,B,-16384,-15083,M1:31,0
8=CZ,B,-10012,-5331,M1:32,0
9=CZ,B,-780,2816,M1:33,0
10=CZ,B,6656,8960,M1:34,0
11=CZ,B,11264,12544,M1:35,0
12=CZ,B,12800,16383,M1:36,0

Its a little bit difficult for me to understand and answer this conversation in english, but I hope I have given you the information you wanted to know?

Heres a complete log from starting FS to end.

I can't see from that what was happening during normal running and what only in the menu. How many times did you enter the menu? There's one "stop" entry from SimConnect, and seemingly no corresponding "Start", so it seems the whole session was in a menu? Or what?

This line shows you weren't actually in flight mode very long:

Average frame rate for running time of 94 secs = 13.2 fps

Where are those 94 seconds? Are all of those NAV2_RADIO settings and " Macro: mouse action" entries false, or some genuine, and how many whilst in the options and how many outside?

You need to help me see what you see, please. With the Console Log open (you'd need to put FSX into Windowed mode) you will be able to see exactly what happens in real time. Please do that and explain what it is you are doing and what you see happening which may be wrong.

the logfile above is now a new one; I've deleted the old log file before starting FSX.

You never need to do that as FSUIPC4 always replaces the log file on startup.

... "Dial a Flap" is the position where my flaps move everytime i close FSUIPC menu

Right, so it is this line being activated:

9=CZ,B,-780,2816,M1:33,0

Macro entry 31 to 36 is assigned to my right throttle.

I have made 6 ranges where the macro-commands were executed

I think thats this stuff in the FSUIPC.ini?

Yes, I saw all that and quoted the relevant line to you, but I don't understand it. This is why I asked you to explain what it iss supposed to be doing, please. What are you intending to happen on your right throttle lever as you move it? It seems very odd to me, but maybe that's because i don't know or understand Airbuses -- they are very different from Boeings it seems.

If you can halp me understand what it is you are doing with that throttle axis and why, then maybe I can work something here to compare it with, but I can't really do that without understanding what I'm doing. I don't have the MD-11 to start with, so i'd need to simulate it another way.

Regards

Pete

ok ok, I it is diffcult as I said... ;-)

First how the flap works (btw MD11 is McDonnell Douglas not Airbus. And today its already Boeing :wink: )

It seems more complicated as it is..

There are 6 flap positions

1) up

2) slats extended (call it flaps 5)

3) Dial a flap (where you choose a flap stage; but doesn't matter in our case - call it flap 15)

4) flap 28

5) flap 35

6) flap 50

I have assigned these 6 poitions to one of my levers, I name it "lever 6"

I have assigned it via FSUIPC by using 6 ranges and every range executes one flap position via the macro (entries number 31 to 36)

here's a log again.

I was in FSUIPC Menu and pressed "ok", then the movement of the flaps to position 15 begins, afterwards I pulled the lever 6 a little so that the flaps go up. After this I entered FSUIPC menu again.

the red one is when the ghost move happens

the green one is my action to get the flaps up again

the blue one is some kind of PMDG stuff which occurs very often

After that I entered FSUIPC menu again and when I leave FSUIPC menu I can see instantly the red code - its always the same

Inside FSUIPC menu I do nothing - just klicking ok or abort

I really don't know how to explain it better - I hope you can understand me?

I do nothing, hands off of all controls but the flaps move when leaving FSUIPC menu....

ok, I have deleted my whole axisentry for the MD-11 in the FSUIPC.ini.

For now it seems to be resolved. Since then I haven't had one single ghost movement.

Too bad, that I haven't had this idea earlier...

I hope this problem is really solved now.

Maybe you have an idea what the problem could have been, nut anyway many many thanks for your thoughts and time and support!

have a good night!

No, it is not resolved...

same thing with other aircrafts, too. And also with the MD11 of course

Now even with a default FSX plane, the BeechBaron and the Cessna 172

So my conclusion is that it is not depending to any macros or special addons.

Its really strange, because every aircraft seems to be affected an an other way or better said, my joysticks seem to be affected.

I have had the issue also with pan view which is an axis assigned to my other joystick (X52)

Unfortunately I couldn't reproduce this.

It seems that with every new load some other axis are affected???

Here are the log from the BecchBaron

Ooops. Of course it is. I knew that! :oops:

Okay. The axis logging, for your throttle axis, obviously doesn't happen when all of the action is via the range assignments on the right-hand side.

I'll try to set up a similar arrangement here (not with the MD-11 though) and see if I can reproduce it. If not i shall have to add some more logging and get you to rerun the tests.

[FROM YOUR LATER POST]

So my conclusion is that it is not depending to any macros or special addons.

Let me get this straight, please -- you have it happening with axes which are assigned normally, with no ranges defined on the right-hand side with specific controls?

If this was a general problem with normal axis assignments then there'd be a lot more folks reporting it, including myself since all my axes are always assigned in FSUIPC, not in FSX. If it is completely independent of anything set in FSUIPC's INI file, then it is looking like a hardware problem, a lot of unwanted axis jitter. Though why that should only occur on exit from the FSUIPC menu is odd -- except perhaps that would be where the joysticks are re-scanned for identity.

I'll wait for your reply before I try any experiments with range assignments.

Regards

Pete

Yes, thats it.

I thought yesterday this happens ust with addons but on the other hand I thought about that I fly for 100% only with addons.

After trying around with the FSX default planes I have seen thats there, too.

And the normal planes are just normal assigned - no throttle ranges etc.

I've made a quick test now if I can reproduce the pan heading and it worked.

As I said yesterday, sometimes the pan heading is also affected. And pan heading is assigned to my Saitek X52 Joystick: This stick has an axis for this; its no coolie hat.

I've thought about a heardware fault, too, but I have now two saitek throttles and one x52 who are affected, so I don't think this could be.

Below is the logging from now.

As always its just the sequence when I leave FSUIPV menu by pressing "ok" (have nothing made inside the menu), do nothing and enter FSUIPC menu again.

Its with the default Beech58

Later this day I will delete my FSUIPC.ini and start all from scratch to see if theres some coding gone wrong or if this issue will happen again or not...

For now I have absolutely no other idea...

Yes, thats it.

Well, in that case, if it were a fault of FSUIPC, surely everyone would see it -- myself included? I don't understand how it only affects you, and you are not a new user to FSUIPC are you?

Later this day I will delete my FSUIPC.ini and start all from scratch to see if theres some coding gone wrong or if this issue will happen again or not...

For now I have absolutely no other idea...

Nor I. It makes no sense at all I'm afraid.

I've just checked my code. There is some extra logging you can add, please.

Fiirst, before running FSX, add

Debug=Please

LogExtras=8

to the [General] section of FSUIPC4.INI. (You may laready have a LogExtras line -- if so, replace it). Note that you can edit the Extras number in FSUIPC logging tab once 2Debug=Please" is set.

This will do a lot of exctra logging in the Axis assignment and scanning routines, so please don't fly with it like this, just do the short tests.

Thanks you.

Pete

Could there be any "ghost" signal from one of the controllers?

But if so, why are all three controllers are affected?

And why is this just when leaving FSUIPC menu and not with other menues, e.g. FSX map or sth else?

stumped...

btw.: I have this issue a very long time, not just the last days.

I never said a word about it, because it haven't affected me too much. (And I freightened about this discussion here in english :wink: )

But the last weeks I experiment a lot with LUA and Macros and so on and must enter the menu a lot and now I'm affected a lot with it.

Unfortunately the new PMDG J41 got a complete engine damage when the PropFeather is pulled down to fast during flight... :wink:

ok, I have added and logged

Me too.

What I see happening is this:

If I go into FSUIPC options and open any TAB other than the Axis assignments tab, then OK out, there is no re-scan of the axes and nothing is logged by that LogExtras=8.

If I do into the Axis assignments and OK out any time later, the axes are scanned like an initial scan and their current values are actioned.

This is deliberate and normal and should do no harm because all it is doing is re-using the values already set. Sending the same value to FS merely ensures that the levers and controls are where they should be and where they were last. If they have been moved whilst in the Axis tab (for instance just to identify them), then their new positions should be reflected in the aircraft settings too, on exit.

Now, actions on the right-hand side of the assignment might be more of a problem with this: the action is only supposed to be triggered when the axis passes over certain set threshold values, not when it merely stays in the zone it was in before. Probably it is this which explains the original symptom you complained of, with the Flaps Dial -- though it seems to me that if the axis controlling that was in the position for the flaps dial, sending it again should have done no harm. Can you explain why it was/is a problem?

If really necessary, I will certainly look to see what I can do to avoid the actioning of right-hand side zone triggers on exit from the Axis assignments options, but that may well pose a little problem as it has to record where the axis is now so it can still detect the transition across to another zone. Additionally, if the axis was moved whilst in the axis tab, even though no changes might have been made there, then FSUIPC ought to action the reslut on exit -- otherwise the result doesn't match the axis position.

None of this, however, explains why you are seeing axis triggering on ANY entry and exit from the FSUIPC options. I cannot see how that can happen, because nothing in the axis scan is changed by that. It is only when the axis assignments tab has been visited. And it has to reflect the current axis positions on exit in case you moved any. I should probably really do so with the calibrations tab, for the same reason.

It also doesn't explain weird sequences of axis changing such as you show in your logs. Look at your latest one:

The "LogExtras=8" facility logs every actionable axis scan reading which FSUIPC detects. So, in your case, these are the detections and actions by FSUIPC, presumably on exit from the Axes tab in options:

are most certainly NOT caused by FSUIPC detecting any axis changes. This is something else you have going on. I'm sorry, but I don't know how to help with those.

What I might do is provide an INI file [General] option to not trigger any axis refreshers after exit from the Axis assignments tab. I won't have that on default, as I think that would be wrong for the reasons I've stated. but it may enable you to at least diagnose the other problems which you seem to get as a possible consequence.

Maybe we are one step further....

I have now made some tests and disconnected all my Joysticks and throttles, but that doesn't change anything...

But than I have sighted something:

With the last test I have just connected one of my two Saitek throttles - and not the X52, too.

And of course a virgin FSUIPC.ini

My Proplever was at 100%

The Throttlelever at 0%

The mixture lever at 100%

As I opened FSUIPC menu I saw at the Axis Assigmet tab, that the raw in and out is at 0

When I now just klick at "ok" nothing else, then all the levers move to 50% (throttle, mixture, prop)

I can read this by hovering with the mouse over the throttles - all three show exact 50%

When I enter FSUIPC menu again and move one throttle slightly, the RAW jumps to 16384 or -16384 and when I leave then the menu theres no movement...

i think that could be a very usefull information...hopefully.

btw: I have of course calibrated the levers with FSUIPC; tested also with and without calibrating

heres the picture from the Axis Assignment Tab; one picture after entering the menu without moving any lever.

The second when just moving the throttle a little bit

Those are not "raw" values -- you don't have "raw" selected.

Actually, when you first enter the Axis assignment tab, it should show nothing -- if it shows something, then you have an axis movement detected and in this case "0" is what it read. The value will show only if it is different from the last one read and acted on.

When I now just klick at "ok" nothing else, then all the levers move to 50% (throttle, mixture, prop)

At present (without the option I can implement to bypass it), when you exit from the Axis tab, FSUIPC resets all of the "previous values" to an impossible value, so that any value it then reads will be different enough to register an input. I think this is correct behaviour, but i can allow a bypass option.

The fact that they all went to 50% must mean that it read values from your axis which told it those were the places to do (after your calibration, of course). Probably the values of zero it seemed to get were correctly 50% (the range usually being, ideally, -16383 to +16383 with 0 central, so 50%).

When I enter FSUIPC menu again and move one throttle slightly, the RAW jumps to 16384 or -16384 and when I leave then the menu theres no movement...

It sounds exactly like your levers are going to sleep, or the drivers are strange, and giving zero until moved. Have you disabled power management on your USB sockets, in Windows? The removal of power by Windows is the most usual reason, but it could also be a driver or device function.

Try "diview", attached, to see the behaviour of your devices (independently of FS and FSUIPC). What you are seeing most certainly is not FSUIPC behaviour. Try letting the devices rest for a while, then check them with diview without moving anything.

Pete

Have you disabled power management on your USB sockets, in Windows?

No, just checked it again....

Actually, when you first enter the Axis assignment tab, it should show nothing

Here in my case it shows the two zeros from above...

I have tested it now with DIView-Tool:

If I start DIView it shows also 50% for each lever.

I have then moved one lever a bit and the values where correct

I have let DVIEW run for ten minutes without touching my levers and the values haven't changed or flipped back to 50%

Then I started FSX to compare between FSUIPC and DVIEW and I got the picture below

You see all three levers at 100% but FSUIPC shows zero...

Maybe this is driver related, could be. I'm out of ideas now...

I don't want to steal your time any longer with this, so we can end this story if you don't have any simple solution, too

Now I know how I can handle this issue: I just have to move one lever slightly when I'm inside FSUIPC menu...

I think thats easier than any further error searching...

But if you like to test something or would like to have more informations from me, then say it.

I'm glad if I could help you in any way!

But if you close DIView and start it again, does it repeat the 50%? I suspect so.

When you enter and leave the Axis assignments, in FSUIPC4 (but not FSUIPC3), it has to close and reopen the DirectInput API in Windows. This is why FSUIPC4 can detect new devices without restarting FSX, whereas FS cannot. I consider it an essential and beneficial feature. It isn't needed in FSUIPC3 because it doesn't use DirectInput.

It seems the driver for your devices does not provide initial DI readings when opened, only after the axes are moved. I cannot reproduce anything like that here, but then the only DirectInput devices I have are an old Saitek game paddle thing and a Microsoft wing sort of controller, two things I keep for these tests as they are typical examples. They are both using default Windows drivers in any case.

I'm afraid there's really nothing more I can do. I'd advise you to resist continually visiting the Axis Assignments dialogue whilst using your simulator for its real purpose! ;-)

You suspect right, yes!

As all my controllers from Saitek, and Saitek isn't known for good Software, I'm not surprised...

But the X52 has also just the default windows drivers...but anyway

honestly, playing around with FSUIPC and its possibilities is one of the main purposes for me :wink:

:wink: :wink:

Well, in the next updated FSUIPC versions you will be able to add

DontResetAxes=Yes

to the [General] section of the INI file. This may help, I don't know, but probably not if 0 really is being returned as it seems to be.

More interesting changesin the next updates are in the Lua facility:

1. The "print" function in Lua now acts like the ipc.log function, and using the io library for writing to the "stdout" and "stderr" devices also writes the results to the log. This enables ready-made Lua programs which do produce their results with those functions to be used without modification.

2. Lua libray modules called for by Require are now looked for in the FS modules folder, but also, and preferably, in a subfolder modules\lua. This enables Lua programs not meant to be run direct from FSUIPC to be kept separate, and also allows code DLLs to be used on FS9 without crashing FS when it tries to load them as modules of itself.

3. Full support has been added for the LuaSockets package (see http://www.tecgraf.puc-rio.br/~diego/prluasocket/ ). In fact it is made a lot easier than the package suggests, as these main modules are built in as "preloaded modules" (still needing "Require", but not files):

The two C/C++ core modules: socket.core and mime.core

The three main Lua modules: socket.lua, mime.lua and ltn12.lua

There are a load of little utility Lua programs provided in the LuaSockets package too, but I've not built those in. They are best placed, if required, into a Lua folder, within the FS Modules folder.

I will include versions of the "testclnt" and "testsvr" Lua plug-ins, which are acceptance tests for the validity of the implementation, and also two plug-ins "MasterClient" and "SlaveServer" which can link two copies of FS with one slaved to the other as far as user aircraft position and attitude is concerned. It runs quite nicely even in the crude unoptimised Lua code I've used in the examples.

I hope to release the updates tomorrow or Friday.

Regards

Pete

even that I haven't understood the most of your last thread

Oh, I'm sorry. I just thought that, now you are getting into Lua type plug-in use, you might appreciate facilities in Lua for connecting to a Network and/or the Internet -- that's what "sockets" is all about! ;-)
