FSUICP vs. Multiplayer Server functions

Recommended Posts

Hello Pete, and thank you for such great contributions.

I am curious. You may be aware of GotBush? which is a large group of back country flight entusiasts. We run full time servers and such in FSX where we have events, missions, search & rescue, poker runs, STOL (Virtual Valdez) competitions and other events. I have some questions regarding FSUICP.

I am curious if the program would have the capability to monitor a server where there are multiple players/aircraft and record and report data of those entities. As well as the ability to change weather and simulation time in the session that would be observed by anyone connected at the time. Would the program be able to record flight data and talk to a webserver where this information would be reported? I suspect this is more possible if everyone has a client type application but I am seeking something robust. I figure that if the Radar that can be viewed/used in the tower of a multi player session contains all this data, there must be a way it can be tapped and recorded and/or passed on to a database where a webpage could parse and display it.

Curious sir, thank you.

No. I think you misunderstand FSUIPC. It is a tool, an interface, providing the means for folks to get data in and out of FS. It is not an application in the way you are thinking, but an underlying layer which can help service such applications.

As far as I know the sort of program you are thinking of is already quite a common thing in the Virtual Airlines world, where many enthusiasts have implemented PIREPS as well as ACARS systems.

FSUIPC doesn't actually know anything about multiplayer aircraft at all. The "radar" data it provides is actually for AI traffic. There have been programs which inject the MP traffic into FSUIPC's tables as if they are AI so that TCAS systems can operate with them, and some MP implementations on FSX use AI aircraft to represent MP fliers in any case. But FSUIPC itself is not aware of any of this.

Regards

Pete
