SKYWARRIOR Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 Hi, newbie here with a question which maybe obvious to some but I am not sure. I have downloaded the update for FSUIPC 4.53 being 4.558. I have placed the exe file and the pdf in the FSUIPC folder in the modules folder. There are now two .ini files in this folder. One from the update and the previous one. I have not run FSX as I am not sure what to do next. I assume you cannot have two ini file or the program wont know which one to use. If I ditch the old one what happens to my settings? So what to do please. Thank you Regards David
Pete Dowson Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 I have downloaded the update for FSUIPC 4.53 being 4.558. I have placed the exe file and the pdf in the FSUIPC folder in the modules folder. You have made an "FSUIPC" folder in the FSX modules folder? Strange. Normally you'd put the Installer EXE somewhere temporary, like the desktop. You have to actually run the Installer to install FSUIPC4. Anmyway, the interim releases in the Updates Announcement don't come in an installer. Just the DLL. You have to copy the FSUIPC4.DLL into the FSX Modules folder, NOT into any "FSUIPC" folder you might have made. It won't work from there. There are now two .ini files in this folder. One from the update and the previous one. No there aren't -- there cannot be more than one file with the same name in the same folder. There will only ever be one FSUIPC4.INI file in the FSX Modules folder. And there cannot be any INI file from any update UNTIL you run FSX -- FSUIPC cannot make an INI file if it isn't run! I have not run FSX as I am not sure what to do next. I assume you cannot have two ini file or the program wont know which one to use. If I ditch the old one what happens to my settings? Don't ditch anything. You appear to be very confused and I don't know why. ALL you needed to do was copy the new DLL into the FSX Modules folder. It overwrites the other one. There is no new INI file and nothing replaces your INI file. so what to do please. Just run FSX and enjoy it! Pete
