Digital Aviation Fokker and CDU II

Dear Sir,

Can you tell me how to assign keys to FSUIPC to let the CDU II VRInsight work with the Digital Aviation Fokker?

The Fokker has a Key assigner and it has keyassignments.

How do I place Keyassignments of the fokker into FSUIPC?

Have you set up FSUIPC to work with VRinsight's hardware?

See "APPENDIX 3: Handling VRInsight devices in FSUIPC4" in the document "FSUIPC4 for Advanced Users.pdf" if you have yet to set it up.

Once set up go to the buttons and keys tab in FSUIPC.

1) Press the button on the VRI hardware you want to assign a key press too, it should appear in these boxes.

2) Tick the box "select for key press"

3) Press the "set" button

4) Now press the keyboard keys you want to be sent when you press this particular button on your device, they will appear in this box.

Press OK to complete or press another VRI button and repeat from step 1 to assign key presses to another button.

Due to the way the buttons work on the VRI devices you will also have to repeat your key assignments in the lower boxes labelled "Press the keys to be sent when you release this button", if you don't you will only get an action for every other button press you make on the VRI device.

I have set everything up as it is discribed in the Appendix 3

So Ihave set up the virtual serial ports and everything seems to work well.

I progrmmed buutons in FSUIPC for the CDU II, but it doesnot do what i expect that it shoul do.

For instance LSK1 on CDU II I programmed shift +F! but nothing happens. I have pushed the buttons exactly as you discrbed but..

I progrmmed buutons in FSUIPC for the CDU II, but it doesnot do what i expect that it shoul do.

In FSUIPC Options please enable Button Logging (Logging tab, left-hand side). Then repeat the test so I can see what it is doing.

For instance LSK1 on CDU II I programmed shift +F! but nothing happens.

"Shift + F" or "Shift + F1"?

You missed the start of the log, which might help.

Are you not using SerialFP2 as well? I see no initialisation of the device. If you don't run the VRi driver you should only provide the one port, the device port -- you've provided both, thus:

seem to indicate the device was already initialised somehow. Was that from an earlier run with SerialFP2? "FUN16" is the unassigned key under the word "FUNC" (top right below the scren), and "KEYCLR" is the bottom right, which should be labelled "CLR". You didn't press the LSK1 key, which would send the message "LSKL1".

Hi Pete,

Thank you for your reply.

I have made in VSPE one pai of virual comports com 6 and com 7.

On the CDU II LSK1 =shift +F1 and so on for the LSK buttons. There is nothing happening on the CDUII display when I for instance push the LSK1 button or the CLR button (backspace).

On the CDU II LSK1 =shift +F1 and so on for the LSK buttons. There is nothing happening on the CDUII display when I for instance push the LSK1 button or the CLR button (backspace).

What do you expect to happen on the display? It is only another screen on your PC, assuming you've connected it to a VGA port on your video card or motherboard. Nothing of mine handles any display windows. I think you have to undock the FS CDU and drag it over to the CDU. That's not my subject I'm afraid.

You might get one or two of those now and then, when a weather station isn't populated with weather, but you have it occurring constantly. Something is wrong with your weather option settings in FSX or you have a corrupted FSX installation somehow. Maybe the file "wxstationlist.BIN" is corrupted. You'll find that in the same folder as the FSX.CFG file. Try deleting it so FSX generates a new one.

So all you need to do is assign them to whatever you want them to do.

Note that because VRi devices don't send "press" and "release" indications like normal joystick buttons, FSUIPC has to toggle the switch "on" and "off" on alternate presses. So to see them in the Buttons tab you often need to press them twice, and for actions you want to occur every press you need to program FSUIPC to do the same on Press and Release. This is explained in the documentation too.

You must have deleted more than merely the wxstationlist.bin file, because I just did that and FSX doesn't worry about it. It just makes a new one when you close the session. The file which it is referring to is nothing to do with the weather, but the keypress mappings.

Sorry, I really don't know what you are asking me in this thread. You can program any of the buttons on the CDU2 in FSUIPC, to do whatever you want that FSUIPC provides. This is if you want to, of course. It works exactly as stated in the documentation. Alternatively you can let the VRInsight software do whatever it wants. It is all up to you. You must decide what you want to do. FSUIPC just treats the buttons on the CDU as programmable buttons, it doesn't simulate a CDU for you.

Well, to do that you'd need to assign the keys to operate the equivalent functions on the CDU from the aircraft model you are using. Assigning "Ctrl+F1" doesn't do much if "Ctrl+F1" does nothing in that aircraft. As it is your logs do not show any such assignment in any case.

For an assignment in FSUIPC to perform an action you have to choose the correct assignment for that action. That should surely go without saying?

Additionally, considering that a CDU needs almost all of the keys otherwise normally associated with other actions in FS, I should think that it would need keyboard focus first -- e.g. "clicking" on it with the mouse.

I think your best option is to work out how to use the CDU in FS without the VRi hardware. Once you know how to do that, see if you can apply what you learned to the VRi device, whether by assignments in FSUIPC or by using the VRi software provided for it.
