Since installing an aircraft add-on (Maddog 2010) FS Commander is not connecting, the message is "no process response" I had this problem some time back and it was due to me not reinstalling FSUIP after FSX crashed. This time although FSUIP is installed I found that in the FS menu bar FSUIP is not now showing in the addons box. I was using 4.6 but have updated to 4648 but nothing has changed. FS Force is also not functioning showing "error reading dll.xml"

I am sure all these problems are linked can you help please.

It certainly sounds like your DLL.XML is corrupted. There are some pretty poor installers around which don't understand how to amend that file correctly.

Try re-running the 4.60 installer (it won't harm your 4.648). That may be able to repair it if it isn't too broken. Otherwise you need to find it, and then you've got two options:

1. delete it and re-run the FSUIPC installer, but use the one from FSUIPC 4.638 also available in the Download Links sub-forum. Again that won't harm your 4.648 installation. However, deleting the DLL.XML will probably stop other things from running which you may still want, so make a copy first,

OR

2. Paste the whole DLL.XML file into a message here so I can advise you on fixing it by hand.

If you are not sure how to find the file, it is in the same folder as your FSX.CFG file, and the path to that is logged in the FSUIPC4 Install log file. Check there, or show it to me so I can tell you.

That looks okay -- and the fact that option 1 didn't work definitely means there's something else wrong. Using a pristine DLL.XML with only FSUIPC4 listed should have definitely got FSUIPC4 loaded okay.

You said in your first message

I found that in the FS menu bar FSUIP is not now showing in the addons box

but does that mean there was an "AddOns" entry in the menu bar, or not? If there was, what was in it?

Is there an FSUIPC4.LOG file being made in the FSX Modules folder each time you run FSX? If so, please show it to me.

Either way please show me the Install log from your re-install attempt via option 1, using the 4.638 installer.

If there's no Log being made each time then SimConnect isn't loading FSUIPC, but that's normally because of the DLL.XML file being wrong, so I don't know what's going on now without more info.

There is only one entry now in the AddOns entry in the menu bar and that is Ultimate Traffic 2, there used to be LVL-D also

No log is being made in the FSX Modules folder

There is no log for re-instal attempts, I have just tried again to make doubly sure I didn't make any mistake previously.

UT2 is an EXE so is loaded via the EXE.XML file, not the DLL.XML file. so this still points to a DLL.XML file error.

does the Installer say it succeeded? Don't you see the log in the text window behind? It is really not possible for the installer not to create a log if it manages to find and (if needed) create the Modules folder. You are not looking in the right place or for the right thing. It's a text file in the FSX Modules folder.

If you've EVER succeeded in installing FSUIPC4 then there is absolutely bound to be an Install log -- else you've never actually used or installed FSUIPC4 successfully.

I renamed the dll.xml, run the installer, then FSX, no change.

You must be in the wrong folder then. Which may also explain why your earlier post showed a good DLL.XML file which didn't work!

Look, from the latest Instal attempt:

Found FSX.CFG in "C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\FSX.CFG"

Now checking DLL.XML ...

... There is a previous DLL.XML, checking for FSUIPC4 section.

... FSUIPC4 section already exists but will be replaced.

... FSUIPC4 section of DLL.XML written okay

You evidently are NOT finding the copy of DLL.XML which FSX is actually using! Maybe you also installed FSX for "all users" or some user other than "Dennis"?

Thank you for your help on this.

I emptied the FSX modules folder completely, it was blank space , then reinstalled FSUIP4 again, then run FSX, still no change. Once again the log again says there is already a dll.xml file but where it is I have no idea. Here is the log extract -

"Now checking DLL.XML ...

... There is a previous DLL.XML, checking for FSUIPC4 section.

... FSUIPC4 section already exists but will be replaced.

... FSUIPC4 section of DLL.XML written okay"

I use XP and am the only user of this computer and FSX was running perfectly until the Maddog instal. I did try (before posting my request for help) uninstalling the Maddog but that made no difference.

I have really no idea where to look for this already existing FSUIP4 section and I have run several searches but came up with nothing.

The prospect of a complete reinstal of FSX is looming.

I'm not at all surprised. There's nothing going wrong in the FSX Modules folder. Replacing files with the same files again doesn't change anything in any case.

Once again the log again says there is already a dll.xml file but where it is I have no idea.

I told you EXACTLY where it is! You aren't reading my rpelies properly! Look:

Found FSX.CFG in "C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\FSX.CFG"

So it is in C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX.

If you are using Win7 or Vista, that's the same as

C:Users\Dennis\AppData\Microsoft\FSX

Where were you looking before?

I have really no idea where to look for this already existing FSUIP4 section and I have run several searches but came up with nothing.

Why not look in the folders that the Installer log tells you?

The prospect of a complete reinstal of FSX is looming.

I don't think that will help. It doesn't change the DLL.XML or EXE.XML files. And it often creates SimConnect problems which may then need a Windows re-install.

Rgds

Dennis

I'm not at all surprised. There's nothing going wrong in the FSX Modules folder. Replacing files with the same files again doesn't change anything in any case.

I told you EXACTLY where it is! You aren't reading my rpelies properly! Look:

So it is in C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX.

If you are using Win7 or Vista, that's the same as

C:Users\Dennis\AppData\Microsoft\FSX

Where were you looking before?

Why not look in the folders that the Installer log tells you?

I don't think that will help. It doesn't change the DLL.XML or EXE.XML files. And it often creates SimConnect problems which may then need a Windows re-install.

Regards

Pete

Sorry for being rather stupid, this is rather difficult.

As far as I can see there are 4 entries for FSX\Modules\FSUIP4.dll as you can see below, which ones do I delete or change?

NONE!

That file is FSX.CFG. Don't touch that! The file you want to DELETE, or RENAME or SHOW ME, is still DLL.XML. I nver asked you to actually Edit any files. It is the DLL.XML file which we have been talking about all along!!!

It is in the same folder as the FSX.CFG file, but you don't need or want to touch that!

:-(

This is getting rather exasperating. Sorry if I'm beginning to seem impatient.

Sorry I havn't been able to get back to you since your last reply but we have had visitors over the weekend, I think I see now what you want to see, well I hope I see! I'm not as young and sharp as I would like to be. Unfortunately I am going on holiday this evening for two weeks, so I will sent you the files when I get back, hope this will not be a problem.

Thanks and regards

I don't really want to SEE anything. I suggested that since you evidently have a corrupted DLL.XML file (presumably corrupted by that aircraft install you did) that you tried either renaming it, then running the FSUIPC 4.638 installer, to see if that solved the FSUIPC problem, or simply deleting it and re-installing in any case.

The only possibly reason for me to SEE it is if you want me to fix it for you instead. You showed me one many messages back but that was evidently the wrong one as it didn't try to load any of the other things you said didn't work, and was a perfectly good file in any case.

Please go back over the whole of this thread and review what's been going on here. We've simply gone round in circales with you apparently getting more and more confused all of the time.

I can understand none of this is easy, but you persist is either misreading things or simply not reading them. I'm not sure which.

Have a good holiday, and please review the whole sequence above when you come back and try not wasting so much time for us both. Okay?

Hello Pete,

I did have a good holiday thank you, and came back refreshed. I have reviewed the whole sequence as you instructed and am delighted to tell you the problem is solved.

To be honest I didnt really understand fully what you were asking me to do.

The new dll you made available was inserted and the old one renamed and that was it. As you suggested the old one must have been corrupted.

I cannot thank you enough for your time and patience in sorting this out.

Best regards

Dennis
