Elevator axis failure on switching aircraft

Pete:

I have several times noticed that when I switch aircraft, either the elevator axis or the aileron axis stops working and I have to go back into FSUIPC and re-assign the axis. Below are FSUIPC.INI, LOG, and LOG1 logging the latest such event. Here, the both were fine on the c172 but on changing to the Embraer 170 the ailerons worked but the elevator was dead. Maybe I am missing something in setting up FSUIPC? I have a profile for "jet." Is this plane assigned to it?

I have several times noticed that when I switch aircraft, either the elevator axis or the aileron axis stops working and I have to go back into FSUIPC and re-assign the axis.

There's really no way it can lose such a setting. But it does have to re-read the INI file on a change of aircraft to see if assignments etc need changing.

Below are FSUIPC.INI, LOG, and LOG1 logging the latest such event. Here, the both were fine on the c172 but on changing to the Embraer 170 the ailerons worked but the elevator was dead. Maybe I am missing something in setting up FSUIPC? I have a profile for "jet." Is this plane assigned to it?

no. As you can see:

FSUIPC shows the profile at the top of the assignments dialogue when one is in operation.

You appear to have axes assigned for "Jet" and generic, so the Embraer would use the generic assignments.

Well, I deleted all the axis assignment and profiles manually from FSUIPC.INI then re-programmed the axes. My Saitek throttle quadrant gives the same axis (x and z) for elevators no matter if I click "ignore axis" so I went in and deleted one axis manually after re-programming. I am going to start simple for now without profiles.

Shame. Profiles are the ideal way of supporting different aircraft types. I think, instead, you simply need to think about what you are doing. Just do one thing at at time. FSUIPC will NOT replace one axis with another once it's recognised one and it most certainly cannot possibly automatically program two at the same time!

I have two Saitek devices attached: a combo yoke/throttle quadrant and a stand-alone throttle quadrant. Thanks for the suggestion about jitter. Even with the combo device attached directly to a motherboard USB port, there was a lot of jitter on the x axis. I moved the deadzone sliders so that all 3 axes on the yoke have the same deadzones. Then I went back into FSUIPC and only the correct axes are now detected by scanning. Too bad that Saitek doesn't provide this kind of trouble-shooting. I have been fighting this problem ever since I bought FSUIPC. Next step will be to try Profiles.
