blend Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Hi All, I've bought FSUIPC in the hope of connecting my Garmin 695 up to FSX via the USB port. Is this possible, or is it necessary to create a custom cable / buy the Garmin serial cable? Any help appreciated.
Pete Dowson Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 I've bought FSUIPC in the hope of connecting my Garmin 695 up to FSX via the USB port. Is this possible, or is it necessary to create a custom cable / buy the Garmin serial cable? I think the USB connection may only usable for transferring waypoint type information. Just about all of the Garmin GPS's met so far which are capable of accepting NMEA or Aviation input do so via the special serial cable. I searched for your model in old threads and came up with this from bdschenk: (see thread Garmin 695 USB ) just to let You know! Today I connected my Garmin GPSMAP 695 via Your fine tool to FSX.Its working with the setup for the Garmin 496. I use a USB to Serial converter and routed pin 3 (Transmit Data) of the 9 pin serial connector to the Data In (Yellow) pin of the Power/Data Connector on the GPSMAP 695/696 Unit and pin 5 of the 9 pin serial connector to the Ground (Black) pin of the Power/Data Connector on the GPSMAP 695/696. By the way the GPSMAP 695 is a wonderfull device - I can only recommend it! Regards Pete
petayem Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Thank you very much Pete. So, I buy the wire and purchase the FSUIPC Licence. The things that I made: 1.- Construct the Wire. Pin #3 to yellow and Pin #5 to black (ground) 2.- Installa the FSUIPC 3.- Put the License 4.- Switch on the GPS and select "Aviation IN"... and try with "Aviation IN/NMEA & VHF Out" too. 5.- Start simulator on GPS. 6.- On Complements select FSUIPC and "AutoSave/GPSout" windows. 7.- Select the AV400. Speed 4800 and intervals set to 1000. But nothing happend ... :-( :-( I thing that forget something.. but don't know what.. Thank you very much. Juan Pablo.

But nothing happend ...  Sorry, I don't know these devices. Does it accept AV400? Is the speed correct? Have you selected the correct serial device in the FSUIPC GPSout tab? It cannot choose it by itself you have to tell it the COM port or name. Pete
petayem Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Yes Pete, select speed 4800. Check the box "Check to enable the GPout" And on top, select only the box "AV400". Really don't know what else can I do. Best regards, Juan Pablo

Really don't know what else can I do. But do you KNOW the device wants AV400 at 4800? The AV400 check box is not "on top". What about the unique port name? You still don't mention that at all. Unless you are sending it to a different PC using WideFS, you MUST tell it which port to use. As I said, it cannot guess! If you don't tell it where to send the data , it cannot send any! Pete
petayem Posted January 16, 2015 Report Posted January 16, 2015 Pete. Today I test the serial por with the Hiperterminal and it was ok on loopback message. Recheck all and everything seems ok. I take some pictures of the FSUIPC, wire and GPS. There are on http://petayem.imgur.com Please can you take a look and if you can give me some opinión I will very thankfull. With best Regards, Juan Pablo.

Did you not see the text shown on the Garmin unit? "receives flight plan data ..."? It looks like the Aviation In mode you are using is there just to provide waypoint information,, exactly as I said originally: "I think the USB connection may only usable for transferring waypoint type information." You need to refer to Garmin documentation I think. Maybe what you want to do is not possible with that unit. BTW why do you select AV400? Is there something in the Garmin manual which states this can be received? Pete
petayem Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Hi Pete. Today I was checking all posts and found several information: ...by the way.. still not working...   1.- On 18 March 2009 - 02:03 PM, bdschenk post: "Its working with the setup for the Garmin 496." But, I can't find this configuration in FSUIPC, can you tell me where is this option? 2.- On 05 March 2010 - 10:04 PM, alexsch post: 1) copy the gpsout dll and ini to my modules directory 2) change Sentences=AV4003)Interval=10004)Port=COM5 My port is com5 because of the pci card that i use for comms5)Speed=96006)PosTo6Decimal=Yes And then, on 16 March 2010 - 11:57 PM he say that works by starting the simulator option. My question is, where is the "PosTo6Decimal=Yes" option on FSUIPC? So, try to use: - Aviation In (on GPS 695 unit) - 9600 Baud for speed - AV400 option on the Bottom left of "AutoSave/GPSout" - Start simulation But still not working. So, have another idea? With best regards, Juan Pablo.
petayem Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 Hi Pete. Finally It's work !!!!! I forgot the RS232 Configuration on Windows System. Must set on 9600 Baud and flow control None, becuse by default is Xon/xOff. And the most important thing is: In The 695 GPS Unit, in the "Aviation In" menu, neer say "Connected", it means always say "Disconected" but it works. With best Regards, Juan Pablo.
