FSUIPC/Windows 7/AFCAD and others

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if you can help me with this problem but here goes.

Initially on my old machine OS XP Home with FSUIPC (Registered version) using AFCAD with FS9 running I have no problems with the AFCAD 'jump here' command however. My new machine is OS WIN7 with FSUIPC 3.98a (registered) and FSUIPC 4.7.2.8 (Unregistered) both installed with Admin Rights, and when FSX or FS9 is running I have the following errors:-

With AFCAD - no 'cross hairs' displayed.

With ADE (Airport Design Editor FSX) - 'cross hairs displayed but no effect with the 'jump here' command.

With AFX (Airport Facilitator both FS9 and FSX)) - 'cross hairs displayed but no effect with the 'jump here' command.

I am also playing with SlewMaster but this also cannot apparently connect to FSUIPC as I get the info 'FlightSim not running ' even when one or the other of my flight sims are running. Could this have something to do with FSUIPC or my OS.

I don't know any of those programs so I don't know what would cause those problems, but if it is due to an inability to connect to FSUIPC then that may be because you are running FS "as administrator" and the other programs not, or vice versa. Programs at different privilege level can't talk to each other using shared memory, which is how the FSUIPC interface works.

Strictly it shouldn't be necessary to run any of it "as administrator", but with Windows 7 the "Program Files" folders are protected against writing, which is a problem for many programs written without Win7 awareness. Really it is best to install FS elsewhere, not in its default folders, but if it is too late for that you may need to run everything "as administator".

Regards

Pete
