The University I work for has recently upgraded it's flight sim hardware (PC's & projectors) going for a heavily overclocked workstation running 64bit environment with rather nice HD rear mounted projectors.

However, the problems have become interesting as the TRC 472 (cessna 172) unit purchased some considerable time back it would seem has a 16 bit I/O card. Alas, the card cannot be swapped out for a 64 bit card at this time (according to TRC).... so the only solution has been to use FSUIPC with Wide FS.

I've installed FSUIPC and Wide FS on the workstation: registered both software's fine.

The TRC unit is connected to an existing PC running XP - and the TRC unit is calibrates more or less fine with their software. This PC was previously loaded up with FS 2004 and the correct FSUIPC software - and worked OK with the TRC hardward. To simplify matters, I've uninstalled all the old FS software off the machine, but left the TRC material on the hard drive. This XP computer has the small programme wide FS within the same TRC folder as per your pdf suggestions (user guide).

I've had the departments IT support to network both machines together using a twisted pair (cat 5) cable - and all seems fine thus far.

When the workstation runs FSX, the XP machine that is running wide FS appears to show 'connected,' but then shows a announcement bar "MS Flight simulator version is incorrect. Please use MS FS 2002 or FS2004"

I've asked our IT team to have a look at the guidance materials re: network settings.

Am I missing something obvious here by any chance?

Any suggestions would be gratefully appriciated.

There's not enough information here.

First please make sure you are using currently supported versions -- check the versions against those listed in the Download Links subforum here and update if your out of date.

Then after a test and failure shown, close both FS and Wideclient, and show me these files:

FSUIPC4.LOG and WideServer.LOG from the FSX Modules folder.

Wideclient.Log from the Wideclient folder.

These are text files and you can paste them into a reply here.

Morning, on the FSX server, within the modules folder of FSX, the FSUIPC files reads as follows

Okay. Those files show everything is fine on the Server.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference, but in the FSX folder on the server machine we have the following files (in addition to the FSUIPC files in Modules). Wideclient config reads:

Why do you have WideClient files on the Server? That config file is the defalut except for the addition of the ServerIPAddr parameter. Does that relate to anything?

On the PC running XP SP3 - namely the old type PC being used to drive the TRC 472 cockpit device, the machine has a copy of 6.86 wide FS. The wideclient config reads:

Okay. The config file is the default, but the log clearly shows the connection is okay, and that the server IP address is indeed as in the Server copy of the config file, even though it was obtained okay be the automatic connection:

69547 Server = MININT-B5719LI

69594 Trying TCP/IP host "MININT-B5719LI" port 8002 ...

69594 ... Okay, IP Address = 192.168.1.20

69609 Connection made okay!

73984 Lost contact with ASE WX requester

228234 New Client Application: "TRCLink" (Id=3708)

And the log certainly shows no problems whatsoever with the Server or Client, and that WideFS is working fine. So, now we come down to your error message:

When the workstation runs FSX, the XP machine that is running wide FS appears to show 'connected,' but then shows a announcement bar "MS Flight simulator version is incorrect. Please use MS FS 2002 or FS2004"

Here, I now understand you to mean that the program you are trying to run, namely "TRCLink", is saying it cannot run with FSX, that you need FS2002 or FS2004. It seems to me that either you have an out of date version of TRCLink, one which was written and released before FSX was known about (6 years ago), or that the company who made it (TRC?) have never updated it.

You need to contact TRC. See if they have a website with a later driver.

Could I trouble you to drop me an email on s.j.wright@leeds.ac.uk as I'd like to ask if it's possible to schedule a visit to the University.

Er, by whom? Me? Are you offering transport, as I do not drive (not allowed with my limited eyesight). Why would you think it would be useful for me to be there? It sounds like you need someone from TRC if you cannot update drivers.

Pete

I to get a file not found for initial.lua in my wideclient log. Can anyone tell me where I can locate that file? I have searched the web and cannot locate it.

Thanks

If you want a Lua plug-in to run when Wideclient starts up, you write your Lua program and place it into the same folder as WideClient. There's no such file provided for you! It is not an error message! It is only telling you in case you had such a plug-in and it wasn't operating.

Lua facilities in both WideClient and FSUIPc are described in the Lua documentation installed for you in your FSUIPC Documents folder, which is in the FS Modules folder on your Server PC.
