are you aware of the following problem? There are reports, that with ActiveSky 2012 and RadarContact the Radar Contact ATIS is not correct when using a FSUIPC newer than 4.80.

Most affected people did a downgrade to 4.80 to keep the RadarContact ATIS in sync with the AS2012-weather.

No. There's been no reports. The only mention was from a person who says that its been like that for him since September 2011, which was five months before 4.80, but he wouldn't even supply any logs or other information so I couldn't help him and he went off in a huff.

I cannot support folks who go back to old versions so they better not come here. If I get no reports of errors or problems I cannot investigate. And I use FSUIPC 4.812 here with AS2012 and Radar Contact regularly and it works fine here. If you or any others want me to look at things I need information, logs, configuration. I would need to know how to reproduce the issue.

this was the fastest answer I've ever seen on a support forum. I will try it on saturday in my simulator with the latest build and report back. I will try to describe the problem (if it is there) as exactly as possible.

I've tried it here on a different system, with ASE, and there does seem to be a timing problem during initialisation. It always works (with AS2012) on my main cockpit system, but it appears to be failing to initialise the ASE/AS2012 link about 50% of the time on my lesser system.

So, I've changed the way it initialises and checks for ASE/AS2012. Test version 4.812d, available via this link: FSUIPC4812d.zip makes it connect 100%. Perhaps you can try that first?

my problemes with fsuipc 4.811:

no correct weather in RC ATIS with AS2012

in EFB Display Unit 10-20min after takeoff i have no AI traffic

i have remeove fsuipc from the Modul folder in FSX in reinstall 4.80 , and then it works

Oh dear. You will get no support from me if you retreat to older versions. Why not try 4.812d as I asked? Am I wasting my time?

Ok, could test it on 2 flights today, it is no longer complete wrong.

QNH is correct, Temp / dew is correct.

One strange thing: the height of the clouds is not correct (tried it with different weather). It sees the correct type of clouds (for example "scattered") but then the altitudes are wrong, for example RC says 6500 instead of 3500 shown by ActiveSky.

And the wind... not shure. ActiveSky showed 10 degrees with 3 knots. Radar Contact says "Winds calm", one minute later it says "Winds 010 at 6", some minutes later it says "Winds calm" again... I mean, this could be okay - if you say, this is a normal range (+/-3) then it is... is it?

If you using ActiveSky also, have you "Force ATC Wind Lock" on or off and which is better regarding a better ATIS? And second, does the Wind smoothing have a bad influence on ATIS?

after my first flight today (with 4.812d) i can say , the atis from RC4 works also .

two other problemes comes back.

-sometimes my super traffic board is stopped , dropped ut2 data at the last did not finish processing in time

-15min after takeoff i have none ai airplans on the display unit from EFB.

I will try it again this weekend and report back

If you mean clodbase (coud height it not detectale nor conmtrollable in FSX), then check whether you are comparing AGL with AMSL -- what's the ground altitude at the weather station?

Neither of those is in any way related to FSUIPC. Both programs se SimConnect directly.

The METAR block for the predominant wind speed is not the only relevant block. Watching a static block won't make things any clearer.

I tuned the RC-ATIS in. In those 10 minutes, Radar Contact ATIS fluctuated between "Winds calm", "Winds 010 at 6" and "Winds 010 at 4".

And if that was what was really happening, would you seriously expect the ATIS tape to be continually revised to say so? Even if there is no other block in the METAR specifying the degree of variablility (and there need not be for such light winds), it doesn't mean there shouldn't be. It really sounds to me like FSX doing its thing, and all quite reasonable. If you want absolutely fix air movement (totally unrealistic) I don't think you want to use FSX, but maybe FS98 or similar, before they introduced an atmosphere simulation.

If you were exactly AT the weather station being reported, I don't know whether RC reads the weather at the WX station's Lat/Lon, or simply reads the local weather at the aircraft. In the latter case the weather is what is simulted at the aircraft inside FSX. FSUIPC only gets METARs from AS2012 when asked for "weather at Lat/Lon" or "Weather at XXXX" (ICAO ID).

If RC is asking for weather at a Lat/Lon, which it usually does for the ATIS, I think, then FSUIPC passes that request to AS2012, and regurgitates that back to RC in FSUIPC's format (as in FS2004 and before when METAR strings weren't used in FS). I don't know if the Lat/Lon must be EXACTLY on the WX station shown on the AS2012 screen or not, but it probably won't be, so there will probably be some small degree of interpolation going on as well. Furthermore, it may be that AS2012 keeps its internal data up to date and changing more often that it updates its screen display, to replicate a notmal ATIS update cycle.

There are so many possible variables going on here that I can't really help you go into it further. As it is I see nothing wrong. I don't know why you do, but if you want it explained further I'd have to point you to AS2012 support.

Yes. Nothing can "nail" anything in a realistic simulation in any case.

Wind smoothing is totally separate from any of this. It is not involved in any way in the passage of METAR data from one porgram to another. It is simply an attempt to stop changes occurring too fast -- but NOT prevent turbulence, gusts or variations. If you don't want those you have to suppress them separately. Their simulation is superimposed on the basic wind setting. Both FSUIPC and AS2012 have suppression facilities. You'd need to use both if you really do want more straight-jacketing.

Ok, thats an exact answer.

It seems, I misjudged the whole systems of FSX/AS2012. I'm an software engineer and so I'm often thinking a little bit "digital". In my digital world it seemed logical that a weather is calculated with winds, clouds, temps, a METAR is issued including those values and then this situation is fixed until a new calculation occurs. Between those calculations everything is "as it is".

I would never have thought that in a "realistic" way - how it is in the real world - that a METAR is issued capturing a "moment" in weather, which is changing the whole time slowly, and so can "move away" from the issued METAR. I thought I had a comparatively stupid piece of computer software... but actually my approach of thinking how it should work was wrong.

So thanks for clarify and pushing me in the right direction.

Hi,

So for me the problem is when I use RC and AS2012 in DWC mode, When I reach 50nm from my destination RC take winds, temperature, qnh from here.

An example to be clear: If my destination is LSGG, at 50nm from my destination RC have to look at the LSGG metar to assign a runway, it should take the metar of LSGG, instead of that it takes the weather which is below me at the altitude I am...so if I am at 12000 it takes wind, temperature, qnh at this moment.

So if the wind at this altitude is the opposite to the wind surface in LSGG, the runway in use taken by Radar contact will be wrong, you see.

I use FS flight keeper, fs captain, Radar contact and fsuipc version 4.812d with fs flight keeper and fs captain the metar at the destination is right. The problem is with Radar contact version 4.3.3845.

As far as I understod the manuals this is quite normal in DWC. Do you have the "Force Destination Wx Zone" in AS2012 enabled?

Manual:

Selecting this option instructs Active Sky 2012 to force all weather stations to your present destination conditions when you are within 128nm. Using this feature, you can start to see your final weather earlier and provides for less surprise on final approach, where conditions might have normally been much different. This will also help stabilize AI traffic for the proper landing/departing runway. You must have a flight plan loaded for this feature to activate.

I for myself use the RC-ATIS NOT for judging the weather on destination. I take the METAR / TAF issued by AS2012 or the 122.02 (weather on destination) directly reported by AS2012.

You then have the chance to change the desired runway for landing in RC during approach to fit into the traffic pattern.

Sounds like FSUIPC cannot connect to AS2012. Are you running AS2012 on the same PC as FSX? If so, does the FSUIPC4 log show a connection? Show me the FSUIPC4 log file if you aren't sure.

If you are running AS2012 on a separate PC then you need WideClient on that PC reading the AS2012 weather instead. What version of Wideclient are you using? maybe it is out of date?

Hi,

Yes all is on in AS2012 and a flight plan inside. I asked for this problem the support in AS2012 and asked me to contact Pete. Normally rc can take the metar of the destination via AS2012 like fs captain and fs flight keeper do.

With ASE and FS9 it works correctly with DWC on.

Sounds like FSUIPC cannot connect to AS2012. Are you running AS2012 on the same PC as FSX? If so, does the FSUIPC4 log show a connection? Show me the FSUIPC4 log file if you aren't sure.

That should be working fine, then. It does for everyone else. That log entry certainly means that, in DWC mode, FSUIPC will be getting the weather from AS2012 or ASE, whichever it is, when it is being requested by any program.

Check for yourself. Enable Weather Logging in the FSUIPC Logging tab. This will probably cause a lot of logging, and when something asks for weather at a particular Lat/Lon there'll be an entry like this (this is for a single request made for Lat 50/Lon 000):

The latter is the actual extended METAR string received from ASE or AS2012. All the intervening stuff is the decoded data which goes to the requesting program (WeatherSet2 in this case, Radar Contact in yours, it's all the same no matter who asks).

One thing which may be going wrong in your case. I know that RC does not correctly follow the protocol for reading the weather, in that it doesn't check that the weather data supplied is the weather for the location is asked for, and it doesn't protect its request with a unique lock code. So anything else also reading weather at sepcific locations from FSUIPC can mess what RC reads up. Check what other programs you have which may also be reading the weather. Some weather radar programs do, like SA_WXR for instance.
