Gordon Hawkes Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Pete, Really appreciate your wonderful FSUIPC Software. Was really worth the purchase! I am currently in the proccess of using it to assign aircraft specific throttle configurations. However I am having an issue; Have two quadrants setup together for use with fsx. 5/6 of the total axes work fine with FSUIPC for various throttle/prop/mixture functions but I have an issue with the very last one which is assigned as a second mixture lever – It only moves in the simulation at 50% or above forward on the physical lever. Could you please tell me how to fix this, Is it a calibration problem? Within your program? Although the screen in windows for USB game controllers shows it has a full 0-100% movement, it is very strange. I should point out that all control axes are deleted in the FSX controls menu. Many Thanks Gordon
Pete Dowson Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 You posted your support question into the "FAQ" subforum, where it wonn't get answered. That's a repository for answers to "frequently Asked Questions". I moved it for you to the Support Forum. Have two quadrants setup together for use with fsx. 5/6 of the total axes work fine with FSUIPC for various throttle/prop/mixture functions but I have an issue with the very last one which is assigned as a second mixture lever – It only moves in the simulation at 50% or above forward on the physical lever. I'd need more information: Which version of FS? Which version of FSUIPC? If you are not using FSUIPC 3.999 or 4.827 (or later) then please update first and try again. Then, if you still have a problem I'd need to know exactly how you have set things up. There are a lot of options. Find your FSUIPC INI file (in the FS Modules folder) and paste its contents here. Regards Pete
Gordon Hawkes Posted June 8, 2012 Author Report Posted June 8, 2012 Oh, Sorry, that's why I haven't found it until now. I do apologise. OK then, am using FSX with The latest of FSUIPC - 4.827 I believe. But it'd be great if you could just sort this out for me please! Many Thanks
Gypsy Baron Posted June 9, 2012 Report Posted June 9, 2012 Read the "FSUIPC4 for Advanced Users.pdf" in the documents included with FSUIPC4. Pay particular attention to the "shortaircraftnames" and "Profiles" area to have one set of assignments apply to multiple paints, models, etc. You 50% axis problem is most likely a scaling/calbration issue. I have dual Saitek throttle quads and I seem to recall a long time ago seeing that situation. It is an easy 'fix' but it has been so long since I did it I can't remember what was involved, exactly. Paul
Pete Dowson Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 OK then, am using FSX with The latest of FSUIPC - 4.827 I believe. INI File The INI file most certainly isn't one from any recent version of FSUIPC. All recent versions produce these parameter lines (with appropriate data of course) in the INI, which are missing from yours: UpdatedByVersion=4834 FSVersionUsed="Microsoft Flight Simulator X",10.0.61637.0 SimConnectUsed=10.0.61259.0 In fact without that first line your INI hasn't been touched by a version of FSUIPC released for quite a long time. I think you'd better show me your FSUIPC4 log file so I can check the actual version. The other strange thing is that almost all the calibrations you have set are default. You don't appear to have followed any of the calibration steps at all, making it a bit of a waste of time using FSUIPC I should think: Aileron=-16380,-512,512,10000Elevator=-16380,-512,512,16380 Rudder=-16380,-512,512,16380 Throttle=-16380,16380 Mixture=-16380,16380 Mixture2=0,8192,8192,16380 Mixture3=0,8192,8192,16380 Mixture4=0,8192,8192,16380 Reverser=-16380,0 All of those are default values except, oddly, that 10000 for the max airlen value. Your mixture lever problem is no doubt because you have a generic all-engine mixture calibrated ("Mixture =", but no sign of any calibration for Mixture1 to match up to your other three! There are some extremely strange assignments amongst your myriad of separate aircraft settings (why so many different ones in any case?) Look: 0=0U,256,D,9,17,13,0 1=0V,256,D,0,17,13,0 That's one axis assigned to operate Throttle1, PropPitch1 and Mixture1 all at the same time, and another simultanerously operating PropPitch1 and Mixture1 at the same time! What are you trying to do? The only saving grace is that you've not bothered to enable calibration for PorpPitch1 or Mixture1 so those have no effect. As for Mixture, the "generic" all engine mixture control is only assigned for your multitude of C130's and such. So far, I am only using it for autosave, multiple throttle configs and reverse thrust settings. And another question I'll ask is how I can make configurations apply to all variations of an aircraft rather than just the one I can be bothered with. That's another thing about your INI file. It hasn't even got the "UseProfiles" parameter in it. This means the FSUIPC you are using pre-dates Profiles, making it many years out of date! So: I recommend: 1. Delete the INI file altogether. It's a mess and trying to fix it will take longer that starting again. I honestly don't know how you got it into such a state. 2. Install an up to date version of FSUIPC. I most certainly cannot support the one you are using! 3. Use Profiles. Do your assignments (properly, not multiple assignments to each axis as you've done so far), AND proper calibrations for named profiles, and merely assign the aircraft to a profile. If you edit the name in the profile section, ensuring you have "ShortAircraftNameOk=substring" in the INI, to a short part of the name but one which identifies it, it should pick up all variants. Please reveiw the User guide sections of Calibration andf on Profiles. Regards Pete
Gordon Hawkes Posted June 11, 2012 Author Report Posted June 11, 2012 OK, so I need to use the inbuilt calibration settings then. Oh Idon't know about all the cock ups with multiple axis doing same things. Apart from one mixture lever on two-engine aircaft they all work fine. And to be fair, the drop down menus in axis assignment tab are pretty confusing and often seem to mess up by assigning something I don't remeber doing so! Which is no doubt the reason why throtttle 1, prop 1, mixture 1 are all assigned to one axis. What I am trying to do is assign each one out of six axis to individual aircraft depending on their cockpits. And although it seems to be working fine, except the 50% in effect issue, FSUIPC isn't making it ridiculously easy. Look, thanks Pete, I will try what you suggest but I think i'll give up on it after and call it a day. Its done all I needed it to do, I can now just load up any aircraft without show all variations ticked and just need to swap round the various tops on the levers and its fine, and thats very satisfactory, and what I looked into FSUIPC for, and as a bonus, whilst I was at it I got autosave and reverse thrust per engine. Now all I want is this issue fixed, which looks possible. Many thanks. I will just have to go throuh the assignment process again, each time I load a new aircraft variant previously not setup. Cheers
Pete Dowson Posted June 11, 2012 Report Posted June 11, 2012 OK, so I need to use the inbuilt calibration settings then. Well, you ARE assigning "direct to fSUIPC calibration". If you don't want to use FSUIPC calibration you should simply assign to the FS controls instead. Can you please explain to me why it is confusing? There are 4 slots to assign up to 4 actions for each axis. You have evidently used up to 3 of them for several of your axes in order to assign completely separate functions. It isn't as if they wouldn't all be shown on screen together, as assigned to the axis. What is confusing about it clearly displaying what you've done? And why would you do it? It seems to me you may have dived in head first, done some things without thinking then through, and probably without referring to the user guide. FSUIPC is a big box of tools, and can do all sorts of coplicated and useful things, but most find it simple enough to use for simple things, like assignment and calibration. I'm also astounded and rather disturbed that you appear to be using a really ancient version of FSUIPC. I cannot support such old versions., and the one you are using appears to predate the very facility which would have been of most benefit to you -- Profiles. I will just have to go throuh the assignment process again, each time I load a new aircraft variant previously not setup. Well I think you'll dig yourself into deeper and deeper trouble. Please do not come back for more support if you do this, as I will only repeat what I said above. And also do not come back until you update to a supported version, please. Pete
Gordon Hawkes Posted June 13, 2012 Author Report Posted June 13, 2012 I really appreciate what the software can do though, because nothing else would work to do these features. And thanks very much for taking the time to address my problem.
