danspaceman Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 I recently bought a new computer and redownloaded FSUIPC (and paid for a new license) and when I start FS Real Time or DNTDisplay I get a message saying that it cannot connect to FSUIPC. I have tried reinstalling everything, but that hasn't helped. Please advise.
Pete Dowson Posted April 10, 2013 Report Posted April 10, 2013 I recently bought a new computer and redownloaded FSUIPC (and paid for a new license) and when I start FS Real Time or DNTDisplay I get a message saying that it cannot connect to FSUIPC. I have tried reinstalling everything, but that hasn't helped. Why did you pay for it? You provide no information of any use I'm afraid. What version are you talking about? Which version of FS even? Show me the log file (close FS down first). (BTW I've not heard of DNTDisplay -- does it even use FSUIPC?). Pete
danspaceman Posted April 11, 2013 Author Report Posted April 11, 2013 (edited) I paid for a key (from here:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html) because I was charged for it. If it's free, why was I charged 20 Euros? I'm talking about version 3.999z, using FS2004 on Windows 7. DNTDisplay apparently does as I first went to the maker of FS Real Time for help and he suggested running that to see if it could connect. It couldn't. Pete Dowson Posted April 11, 2013 Report Posted April 11, 2013 I paid for a key (from here:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html) because I was charged for it. If it's free, why was I charged 20 Euros? You've not bothered to look at any of the documentation, then? The user guide clearly explains what you get for registration and what you get free. The interface to application programs has always been free. The purchase of a registration gives you access to all the user facilities. Log file: That shows things being okay, except that at some point it should log "Advanced Weather Interface Enabled". That's an indication that the initialisation is completed. It looks like your system is never finishing initialisation. I've not seen anything like that before with FSUIPC3. I'm not sure how to work out what is happening at present. Could you try with just the default flight -- don't change anything on the initial screen. Is FS starting in Paused or Slew mode at all? Is the FSUIPC entry present in the Modules menu entry? If so, please go to Logging, right-hand side, enter 11D4 for the offset in one of the lines, type U32. then select the normal Log option below and press OK. Show me the log from that. Regards Pete
danspaceman Posted April 12, 2013 Author Report Posted April 12, 2013 With the default flight, it starts normally. It is not paused, nor in slew mode. Is the FSUIPC entry present in the Modules menu entry? If so, please go to Logging, right-hand side, enter 11D4 for the offset in one of the lines, type U32. then select the normal Log option below and press OK. Show me the log from that. I have no idea what any of that means, you're going to have to direct me to it.
Pete Dowson Posted April 12, 2013 Report Posted April 12, 2013 I have no idea what any of that means, you're going to have to direct me to it. Oh dear., really? Do you know about the menu bar in FS, at the top of the screen, the one where you can load and save flights etc etc? If not please refer to FS documentation for help. Really before using FSUIPC I would expect folks to have used FS a bit. Now: "Is the FSUIPC entry present in the Modules menu entry?" merely means to look at the menu bar (once you've worked out what that is). Then find the entry labelled "Modules" (usually the right-most one) and click on it. Check for an entry in the dropped down part called FSUIPC." Tell me if the Modules entry is there and then if the FSUIPC entry is in it. If it is we can carry on. Otherwise there are different steps to take. I'm away now till Monday, sorry. It might take quite a few more days in any case with simplified single steps. Regards Pete
danspaceman Posted April 13, 2013 Author Report Posted April 13, 2013 (edited) "It's in the in-flight menu, press alt" is all you have to say. There is no need to be condescending, I have been using FS since 2000 and FSUIPC worked fine on my old computer which was running Vista. Since I upgraded, it has stopped working. Luke Kolin Posted April 13, 2013 Report Posted April 13, 2013 FSUIPC looks like it's running fine. Are you running FS9 as admin, and your add-ons at some lower privilege level? Cheers! Luke
danspaceman Posted April 15, 2013 Author Report Posted April 15, 2013 Running it as an admin has no effect. The add-on in question needs to start before opening FS9. Opening the add-on connects with the program and starts it automatically. When I open the add-on, regardless of admin status, I get the message "cannot connect to FSUIPC." I tested it with another add-on that uses FSUIPC and it couldn't connect either. It used to run flawlessly on my old system, so I'm a bit miffed as to why it won't work now, given that everything is right where it should be.
Pete Dowson Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 "It's in the in-flight menu, press alt" is all you have to say. There is no need to be condescending, I have been using FS since 2000 Odd then, that you didn't know what a menu was, and hadn't even seen the Modules entry which is where FSUIPC's options are accessed before. If you know so much why say you understood nothing? I don't think it is condescending to speak simply and at a low level to someone who says or implies he knows nothing by saying "I have no idea what any of that means"!. I've never thought of it as the "in-flight menu" specifically, as it is the only menu I know of in FS. All other options are presented in dialogues or sub-menu drop downs from it. Here is the new log file: Thanlk you for logging 11D4. Here is the problem: 58469 Monitor IPC:11D4 (S32) = 0 11D4 provides FSUIPC with the pointer it needs to connect into most of the parts of FS9 which it needs to in order to support the Application interface. I've never seen that being zero, not ever before, but it is catastrophic for FSUIPC's nterface. I can only think that your FS installation is corrupted somewhere. Maybe you need to try repairing it or reinstalling even. Regards Pete
danspaceman Posted April 16, 2013 Author Report Posted April 16, 2013 I have completely removed and then reinstalled FS. It still does not work.
Pete Dowson Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 I have completely removed and then reinstalled FS. It still does not work. Is 11D4 still zero? There's no way to make the interface operate correctly if so. Pete
