jdriskell Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 I'm having problems with the autopilot on my 737NGX engaging properly. I've read that the controls need to be in the neutral position in order for it to engage, so I re-calibrated my CH Yoke and Peddles in FSUIPC. Here's an extract from the .ini file: Aileron=-16380,0,0,16380 Elevator=-16380,-144,-144,16380 Rudder=-16380,-512,512,16380 Aileron values look OK to me, but should the elevators and rudders have null values instead of the values shown for the center of the range. Also, why does the rubber have a minus and a plus value? Thanks in advance for the information, Jim Driskell
Pete Dowson Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 Aileron=-16380,0,0,16380 Elevator=-16380,-144,-144,16380 Rudder=-16380,-512,512,16380 They don't look like properly calibrated values at all, but almost no difference from defaults There should always be a small dead zone at each end to make sure min and max settings can be reached and the dead centre is very rarely exactly 0. In the case of the aileron and elevator you haven't even got a central zone, so the hands-off central position could easily be biassed. You should follow the numbered steps for calibration clearly laid out in the User Guide if you want to make proper use of FSUIPC's calibration capabilities. Aileron values look OK to me, but should the elevators and rudders have null values instead of the values shown for the center of the range. Also, why does the rubber have a minus and a plus value? They are very bad, poor. Just do the calibration again, properly, and following the steps. That's why the documentation is there. ;-) Pete
jdriskell Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 I re-calibrated the controls and wound up with the following: Aileron=-15557,0,0,15597 Elevator=-15521,0,0,15550 Rudder=-15859,0,0,15993 LeftBrake=-16384,16383/16 Throttle1=-16384,-16384,-16384,16246/32 Throttle2=-16384,-16384,-16384,16246/32 RightBrake=-16384,16383/16 The PMDG 373NGX seems to fly OK with these settings. Well, that's good, but you still have only one exact centre for the three main controls, at 0, with no leeway in case it doesn't centre always there. Maybe the controls are that perfect, but it's unusual. And the brakes have no "off zone", so if they don't read precisely -16384 when released they will be on slighly. Normally, without any leeway on the toe brakes it is difficult not to apply some brake when applying rudder. Most folks prefer that the toe brakes don't apply for at least the first inch or so of travel. Regards Pete
