sam1133 Posted September 30, 2013 Report Share Posted September 30, 2013 hi, sorry for being a complete dim wit, but i am now completly lost of what to do next. have main pc and laptop win7. main pc has fsx with registered fsuipc4. laptop has fs flight keeper with registered widefs in side folder. have setup a homegroup with name of pete [ that is myname] and setup drive with fsx as share with read and write capabilities. when i run widefs as admin, i get nothing but a box saying waiting for connection. have tried to attach wideclient notepad thingy but i am lost. i am not a computer wizkid and need very simple instructions if you would be so kind. many thanks Pete Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I assume you mean "WideClient" on the client PC? Why are you running "as admin"? It will say it is waiting for a connection until you have started FS on the FS PC and it is ready to fly, assuming you have registered and enabled WideServer in that PC. All Network connections have two ends. You are only looking at one end. have tried to attach wideclient notepad thingy but i am lost. I don't want to see any "notepad thingies". The relevant information is in the WideClient.log file on the Client and the WideServer.log file on the Server -- the first is in the same folder as WideClient.exe and the second is in the FS Modules folder. If you can't see them it is because you have Explorer set to hide filetypes from you. Please see the FSUIPC User Guide or Installation Guide for instructions on how to turn that damn silly option off. Don't try to attach files here, just cut and paste the text. BTW, rather than entitle your thread "Help Please" it would be more sensible to actually state the problem in the title. Then others will likely jump in and help too. This is especially true during the frequent and sometimes extended periods whilst I'm away. I do look at all threads here, but others will only look at those which might mean something to them. Okay? Pete Dowson Posted September 30, 2013 Report Share Posted September 30, 2013 ok sorry Pete, understand, here is the wideclient from my fs flight keeper...even if i have fsx running it still wont connect. its probably obviouse to you why it wont run, but i dont understand these things to well. 266 Trying to locate server: Need details from Server Broadcast Why not just delete the extra rubbish rather than leaving so many copies to scroll through? :-( As I said earlier, a connection has two ends -- there's a Server too, with a Log file, and I told you where to find it. So why not do so and paste that as well? But briefly it looks like the server broadcasts aren't getting though, assuming the server is actually enabled (which is still a question without the essential log). Did you read some of the WideFS user guide at all, especially the bit with a red note asking everyone to make sure they read at least that part? To do with configuring the network? And yet again you post many copies of the same log. Why? Why not delete the unwanted rubbish? It makes your messages much harder to read and reply to. You say you read the guide, but I think you must have missed the essential part, the part I mentioned -- the part with the red banner saying IT IS IMPORTANT FOR ALL USERS TO READ AT LEAST PART OF THIS! You mention the firewall, but not the WorkGroup, which is "VERY IMPORTANT #2". Don't forget to scroll down a little, after checking all that, to the part that says "... However, if you find the connection is still not happening ...". Maybe this might apply to you, don't you think? I can see from the Logs that you've not yet bothered to follow this at all. Okay. That's progress of a sort. It certainly means the broadcasting wasn't working despite both WorkGroup's having the same name. I am wondering if this is something to do with the weird default way Win7 has of trying to make you use the "home group" networking, which is supposed to be simpler! My network is a mix of WinXP PCs and Win7 ones so I can't use that and reverted to "normal" networking. Basically what you have happening now is that Windows is blocking the Client attempt to contact the Server. Whether this is happening on the Client or the Server is really impossible to tell. It will be down to one or more of three things: 1. There's a firewall on the Client blocking the Client's outwards attempt 2. There's a firewall on the Server blocking the inward connection from the Client. 3. The port required by Wideclient (8002 by default) is already in use on the Server. More about the 3rd one: the Broadcasting uses port 9002 and the normal interaction uses 8002. Maybe 9002 was blocked too. Both of these can be changed, but you'd need to change them in the WideClient INI file and the FSUIPC4 INI file too. However, I'd guess that the real problem is that your firewall(s) are blocking the connection. Try disabling the firewall at both ends. If it then connects you will either need to leave the firewalls down, or find out how to allow WideClient.EXE and FSX.EXE through. I'm afraid I would be lost in the latter case as I always disable firewalls between my PCs. I hate systems trying to stop me using my computers as I wish, and Windows does far too much of that nonsense. If you have a decent Internet Router the firewall there should be good to protect you. sam1133 Posted October 1, 2013 Author Report Share Posted October 1, 2013 well as i said before there is no firewall on either pc, and the port is not busy or used..checked myself...out of despairation, went into fsx and fsuipc and turned of wideclient button, restarted pc and then went back in and turned it back on, and hey it works now. may i also add mr dowson, i think you need to be a little more patient with us customers of yours, after all we have paid for this product, it isnt some free mod...so please be a little more leniant towards us less pc knowledgeable people. i have a serious illness and on lots of meds, hence why i play flight to take my mind of it, and so i dont always catch on so quickly. anyway thank you for your help good day Pete Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am a technician and I tell it as it is. I don't see any point in beating around the bush. And I would naturally expect folks using computers to fly what is quite a complete simulation, specially using Networked addons, to have sufficient intelligence to make use of resources provided to them.
