P3D CTD on start after FSUIPC Install

Recommended Posts

Hi Pete,

Hoping you can point me in the right direction.  I'm a very satisfied registered user and have just changed my pc. Spec at the end of this message:

My entire P3D install went well (1.4).  However when I install FSUIPC version 4.92 (both using migration tool and not - result is the same) P3D crashes to desktop on start.  The program gets as far as loading settings and then just disappears from the screen back to desktop with no apparent error message.

Really strangely the main P3D.exe file is then deleted from my P3D root directory meaning I have to reinstall (repair) P3D!

I've read the install guide and have tried copying FSUIPC loader to the modules folder before install - result is the same CTD on start.

I have also tried removing each file that FSUIPC installs to the modules folder and test-starting P3D.  By doing this I have isolated the file that causes the CTD, which is FSUIPC.dll

Have tested starting P3D with and without that file in the modules folder- without it P3D runs 100% no problem.  With it present P3D ctds on startup 100%.

I am sure I am overlooking something very simple here Pete but I really am at a dead end after a week of trying to find a fix myself.

Hoping you can help to point me in the right direction

not sure if it will help but I have pasted the FSIUPC install doc below:

best wishes, thanks for a fantastic product and here's hoping you can help me with this one!!

You've got simething else going on then. There's absolutely no way anything to do with FSUIPC will be deleting any files whatsoever. You need to look for another culprit! I'd go to the Prepar3D support forum about that. You also need to get the CTD details from the Windows event viewer.

The only sort of program i know of which will sometimes appear to delete an EXE file is a virus checker -- but those tend to move them to an "prison" folder where they are prevented from doing harm, and would normally present you with a message telling you what they've done.

I've read the install guide and have tried copying FSUIPC loader to the modules folder before install - result is the same CTD on start.

Did you not look for the FSUIPC4.LOG file first? If that is not produced then FSUIPC4 is not even getting run.

I have also tried removing each file that FSUIPC installs to the modules folder and test-starting P3D.  By doing this I have isolated the file that causes the CTD, which is FSUIPC.dll

I assume you must mean FSUIPC4.DLL, because FSUIPC.DLL is is for FS9 and before.

Have tested starting P3D with and without that file in the modules folder- without it P3D runs 100% no problem.  With it present P3D ctds on startup 100%.

Without more information I can't really help. It could be due to a bad SimConnect set up, or it could be something else which is doing it simply because the timing and memory layout will be a little different when FSUIPC4 is being loaded.

I am sure I am overlooking something very simple here Pete but I really am at a dead end after a week of trying to find a fix myself.

There have been no other reports, and FSUIPC4 has worked successfuly now for alll releases of P3D. It is even working well with the upcomng version 2.

Hoping you can help to point me in the right direction

Not really, not without details of the crash and sight of the run-time LOG file. Have you tried installing the latest version of FSUIPC, 4.921, over the FSUIPC4.DLL in the Modules folder (see the Download Links subforum)? Also provide the details to Lockheed Martin by reporting it in their Support Forum --- I'm sure they'd be interested in a bug which somehow miraculously deletes their EXE file! That would be sure to catch their attention!

not sure if it will help but I have pasted the FSIUPC install doc below:

No. If there's an FSUIPC4.LOG that would certainly be relevant. But the install log is only useful for installation problems.

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete and thanks for such a swift response.  Lots of good advice there and one thing I hadn't even considered is the fact that this PC came with a trial version of Bull Guard internet security installed.

I havent activated the trial but it does pop up on each windows start....I wonder whether that could be the culprit....

I'll try deleting that this evening and then look at the other points you've made.  I'll report back Pete.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Pete - just wanted to thank you for your help on this one.  As you suspected it It was entirely down to the bull guard antivirus software.  once this was removed everything worked perfectly!!

Thanks again.

best wishes - Steve
