FSUIPC4.927a re-install not reading fsuipc4.ini correctly

I recently had to do a complete Windows 7 re-install on my PC. I made certain that I had a copy of the present fsuipc4.ini file before doing so. After re-installing the OS and FSX,  I downloaded the FSUIPC4.927a. I ran FSX once, then installed FSUIPC. I then replaced the FSUIPC4.ini file in the Modules folder with the one I had saved.

 

I have installed Flight1 King Air 200 and had made a specific profile for it prior to the Windows re-install. The profile sends all axis's to FSUIPC.  I've ensured that the box, "enable controllers", is unchecked in FSX options. When I've loaded that aircraft, non of my axis's work correctly i.e., if I use the ailerons, the prop controls move. I opened the axis assignments tab in FSUIPC and the top of the window shows the proper profile. None of the buttons I've assigned seem to function.

 

I have several controllers (Saitek Proflight Yoke & throttle, a second Saitek throttle quadrant, a X-52 joystick, and Saitek Proflight rudder pedals), some of which are plugged into a USB hub.. I had all this working great before I redid the computer. Can anyone give me a clue on where to start troubleshooting? I'd hate to start from scratch on the profile assignments. I'm sure I'm missing something.

 

I've tried to my latest fsuipc4.ini and log file. It tells me I'm not permitted to upload these kinds of files. I used WinZip to upload them instead.

It would have been better to put the INI file you really wanted to use in before running it for the first time. It is pointless making it generate a default one.

 

BTW the curently supported version of FSUIPC4 is 4.928 and has been for nearly three weeks. You need to update.

 

Ah, I see from the INI file:

UpdatedByVersion=4928

that you mean 4.928, not 4.927a!

The devices seen are assigned to letters A, B, C and D, but A is missing. Doesn't that matter? You do seem to have some button assignments for A.

It's hard to say what is going on  Your log file shows you had Button & Key logging enabled, as well as Axis and Event logging. But there are no entries at all showing any buttons being pressed.  and the only axis movement is for Prop2.  Did you press any buttons at all? And only one lever moved? Your Prop2 assignment is to the X axis on device "D" (D=Saitek Pro Flight Yoke) whilst your ailerons axis is X on device "C" (C=Saitek Pro Flight Throttle Quadrant). These are surely the wrong way around?

 

Perhaps the INI file you thought you saved and restored is from a different time? Check the lettering:

Obviously one fix is to swap the C's and D's around -- but why would they have changed?  It may be possible that GUIDs don't remain constant, but there's no way the names can be changed -- they are built into the device.  The GUIDs might be too, I don't know, but anyway those are only used when there are several deivces with the same name -- else they are ignored.

 

Is the Rudder assignment working okay? If so you know B is correct. if not maybe A and B are reversed too?

 

I think the only explanation is that this INI you installed was not the one you had working before.

Most folks just paste the contents into their message. You can do that quite tidily using the <> button above to encapsulate them.

Thanks for your reply Pete. It was most helpful but I'm not quite there yet. The missing joystick "A" was just a loose connection. It's showing OK now. As to the thought that I'm using a different FSUIPC4.ini file than I had, it's not possible. I specifically copied the one out of the Modules folder before I reloaded Windows and it's the only copy I had. I have included a list of the "old" and "new" FSUIPC4.ini files below.

 

My main controller is a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke which contains a serial type port for one Saitek Throttle quadrant and also a small USB hub, where I have the Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals connected. The Rudder Pedal assignments are unchanged. The problem seems to be that the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke (was Joystick "C") with  and the second Saitek Throttle Quadrant (was joystick "D") have swapped "Joystick" assignment letters. What was "C" is now "D" and vice-versa. As to why, no clue. No hardware connections were changed. The second Saitek Throttle Quadrant has a USB connection and is plugged into a powered USB Hub. I have the Pro Flight Yoke plugged into one USB 3.0 port on my laptop and the USB hub is plugged into another USB 3.0 port. Would it be a good idea to move the second Saitek Throttle quadrant from the powered USB hub to a USB 2.0 port on the laptop? Perhaps that would fix future problems.

 

Whatever the Joystick assignments settle down to, I need to fix the present problem. I assume the answer is in editing the FSUIPC4.ini file. It appears that FSX has changed the Joystick assignment letters so it probably would do it again if I tried to change the assignments under "Joysticks". Where should I begin, in the Profiles? The main one I'm concerned about is the Flight1 King Air B200.

 

I really don't want to start from scratch. Any guidance is much appreciated.

It was most helpful but I'm not quite there yet. The missing joystick "A" was just a loose connection. It's showing OK now. As to the thought that I'm using a different FSUIPC4.ini file than I had, it's not possible. I specifically copied the one out of the Modules folder before I reloaded Windows and it's the only copy I had. I have included a list of the "old" and "new" FSUIPC4.ini files below.

 

My main controller is a Saitek Pro Flight Yoke which contains a serial type port for one Saitek Throttle quadrant and also a small USB hub, where I have the Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals connected. The Rudder Pedal assignments are unchanged. The problem seems to be that the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke (was Joystick "C") with  and the second Saitek Throttle Quadrant (was joystick "D") have swapped "Joystick" assignment letters. What was "C" is now "D" and vice-versa. As to why, no clue. No hardware connections were changed.

 

Well certainly FSUIPC can't swap letters around. No way. And changing hardware connects can't do anything in any case -- that's the whole point of having the lettering. The names and GUIDs identify the devices correctly wherever you plug them in.

 

Seems it will remain forever a mystery.

 

Whatever the Joystick assignments settle down to, I need to fix the present problem. I assume the answer is in editing the FSUIPC4.ini file.

I surely already explained to you exactly what to do. Remember? W way back I said to swap the C's and D's over in the [JoyLetters] section. Only 4 characters to change, it can't be that hard can it? What's so difficult? Here, I'll even change the lines for you:

It appears that FSX has changed the Joystick assignment letters so it probably would do it again if I tried to change the assignments under "Joysticks". Where should I begin, in the Profiles? The main one I'm concerned about is the Flight1 King Air B200.

 

No way that either FSX or FSUIPC can change those over. Sorry, you are absolutely mistaken. I don't know how it happened, but there is no programming in anything of mine that can do it, and FSX doesn't know anything about these files.
