Good morning

I am not sure if it is the right way I do, but I really hope that some of u can help me.

First: I already checked the web for a solution, Prepar3d forum, and also this forum. But could not find any related topc. Maybe it is just me or i downloaded the wrong version...

My problem: I run Prepar3d v2.1 with no addons at the moment  (but I want to install FS Global Real Weather and this requires FSUIPC). I downloaded FSUIPC 4.934 and run it as an admin from dektop. And then it happens: FSUIPC wants to see my FSX.exe. And I dont have one...

What am I doing wrong? Wrong version, need a fake FSX.exe? I also tried to copy p3d.exe and rename to FSX. Does not work.

I hope u can help me

The FSUIPC installer will never ask you to find FSX.EXE unless there is a Registry entry for FSX. Either you previously had an FSX installation and uninstalled it incorrectly, or you have used some other installation program which used a fake FSX entry in order to install FSX add-ons into P3D.

Neither of these things would have stopped it seeing a properly installed P3D and completing the installation, so there should be no problem in any case. It is just a nuisance because you have to abort the attempt to find FSX.EXE and let it continue. Others have done this with no problems.

Check your P3D Modules folder. There should be an FSUIPC4 Install log there. If you paste its contents into a message here I can check it for you. Use the <> button above the edit area here to enclose pasted test.

Do NOT mess about with the Prepar3D.exe. Pease make sure there is no FSX.EXE in the P3D folder. That is a bad mistake.

BTW there is a P3D 2.2 available already, and 2.3 forthcoming. Why are you still on 2.1?

Hi Pete

Thanks for the advice with the suppport forum. It is my first time here, sorry for that.

Yes, I used a fake FSX.entry for installation (that was the FSX-P3D switch from simmershome.de, the free version of Estionia Migration Tool), but because of a reset of windows, I had to start from the beginning with P3D again. And yes, I know there is Version 2.2, this is a upcoming point of my to-do-list.

My problem was that after aborting to find FSX.exe, the installation was not finished and no changes were done.

But at first,I am going delete all theses fake entries for FSX and try again.

I will give you feedback in anyway.

Thanks for the reply

I don't know how you aborted to achieve that! If you press "Cancel" on the file dialogue you just get a message coming up which says the FSX installation has failed, but then it goes on to see to ESP (if in Registry), P3Dv1 (if in Registry) and P3Dv2 (if in Registry). Here's what it logs in the Log file when you abort the FSX one and the next is P3D (in this case 1.4):

INSTALLATION FOR FSX:
SetupPath="E:\FSX"
Checking version of the FSX EXE:
Couldn't obtain Version Info! Asking user to find FSX.EXE ...
User aborted attempt to find FSX. Installation failed.
===========================================================

INSTALLATION FOR Prepar3D:
SetupPath="E:\Prepar3D 14\"
Checking version of the Prepar3D EXE:
...
etc.

If it didn't continue and update your P3D installation then your problem is worse that I thought.as it would mean the Registry doesn't contain the installation path for your P3D installation. This should be in something like this:

Looking in registry for Prepar3D v2 install path:
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2
     Parameter"SetupPath"
... >>>  OK! FOUND Prepar3D v2!  <<< ...

(that's from the Log for my P3Dv2 installation).

Good morning

Finally i did it. You were right Pete. Thanks for the help.

Another question: Did anyone mention that the default atc is a little bit strange? I flew yesterday from LSZH to LSGG, and every minute, i had to contact Bern Approach on 123.225, next contact should be zürich, also on 123.225. And the tuned radio did not even match the tuning given from ATC...

Aaaand my GPS didnt work, at least in the King Air 350... does anyone know how to fix that? Current P3d version is 2.2.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, I don't know about default ATC. I've not used it since becoming a Radar Contact users many years ago -- about FS2000 time I think!

You'd be best asking such questions in the P3D forum on AVSIM.

Sorry to butt in slightly, but the default ATC - both in FSX and P3D - is very, very, strange indeed and no your experience is not at all unusual.

The change in frequency is usually caused by the frequency it wants you to contact changing so, for instance, if you are cleared to climb to 10,000' and at 10,000' you are supposed to change from DEP to CTR, then at around 9,000' you'll get a " contact Centre on..." call. You acknowledge it, then while changing you level off at 10,000', but you're still actually *below* 10,000' so what it actually does is passes you off to the next APP/DEP controller and not CTR!

As Pete says, there are a number of much better ATC systems out there, or you can just roll your eyes at and deal with the foibles of the internal one. I really hope that L-M can improve that in a future version, because the current ATC system is more amusing than realistic.

...and with that, I'll shut up and the ATC discussion can continue somewhere more appropriate.

Cheers,

Ian P.
