Pete Dowson Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 Today I have tried to install the new version downloaded from your site, 4.39J, and it automaticly crash FSX. error is FSUIPC.dll .... Here is a copy of my log The log is the Installer log, which doesn't help at all. I need to see the run time log, please. The one named FSUIPC4.LOG. When I put back an older version I had 4.934 I can load FSX but have no more access to the popup nor any functionality in FSX. I have lost all my settings. There's no way installing any version of FSUIPC4 ever loses any settings at all. The FSUIPC4.INI file, the one with all your settings, is not touched by the Installer. And ALL versions of FSUIPC since about 4.2 work with the version of FSX you are using, so something else must have screwed up the loading. I'd need more information about that -- like what do you mean by "no access to the popup"? What popup? Do you mean the options dialogue? Or do you mean the AddOns menus entry "FSUIPC ..."? Without actual run time logs and better explanation it is difficult to help. [LATER] Checking the location of the crash, it looks like it might be related to ASN. Are you using an older build of ASN by any chance? have you tried to enable FSUIPC's facility for ASN weather radar? {LATER STILL] Check also, please, that you do NOT have a file "as_btstrp.dll" in the main FSX or Modules folders. Remove it if so. There has been a previous crash which was caused by this mis-installed ASN module (and from someone who said he hadn't even installed ASN!) Pete

Pete Dowson Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 I have found and the AS_btstrp.dll, but I have never installed ASN, what is ASN? ASN = Active Sky Next. The current weather program from HiFi Simulations. It's predecessors were AX and before that ASE, AS2012 etc etc. AS_btstrp.DLL assists add-on programs like FSUIPC and some aircraft ot make weather radars. They are only accurate when used with ASN though. Something you've instlaled is illegally also installing as_btstrp.dll. Can you tell me what that might be, please? Well, there's never ever been any difference in how the dialogue is opened when you select FSUIPC in the menu. It just depends on SimConnect relaying the selection. The dialogue is standard Windows calls, nothing special, and hasn't been changed since well before FS2004 release well over 12 years. I can only think one of the other addons are conflicting somehow. I need more information. Try this. Find the FSUIPC4.INI file in the Modules folder, and add these two lines into the [General] section: Debug=Please LogExtras=x8000 Then try again. Close FS and show me the log again. Pete

Pete Dowson Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 It looks like something is stopping SimConnect entering Dialog Mode when requested. I suspect it might be another add-on, one other of those using the menu. Can you give me a complete list please? Just to prove this, go to the folder where the FSX.CFG, EXE.XML and DLL.XML files are -- your Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX folder -- and temporarily rename the EXE.XML (if it is there) and DLL.XML files, maybe to EXE.XXML and DLL.XXML, say, then re-run the FSUIPC installer so it makes a new DLL.XML file with only it loading, then try that. If this fixes it, it is definitely some bad add-on which is somehow messing with SimConnect. It would then be a matter of elimination to find which it is. Meanwhile, I'll try to solve another problem that this one causes. If FSUIPC sees the Menu request (which it does -- they are logged above) -- but never sees the subsequent DLGMODE confirmation from SimConnect (which it did in the first instance above, but not in the second), then it will never ever try again because it is effectively still waiting for the first notification. All that is shown in the log. Leave the additional parameters in the INI for now. I will make another version of FSUIPC with this latter situation rectified -- I will make it timeout after, say, 3 seconds and assume dialog mode is not going to start, which will allow it to try again if you select the menu again. It may then mean making several attempts, but it is better than nothing till the culprit can be nailed. Pete
walouigi Posted April 6, 2015 Author Report Posted April 6, 2015 Hi Pete, I did what you have asked rename both files, and now FSX crash with weather.dll error. I don't know why. I have removed the fsuipc section from the DLL, and started FSX , I managed to run no crash, and noticed that FSX close properly without crash. So I have reinstalled FSUIPC again using the latest version, and now I see the FSUIPC in the addons but cannot select it to have the setting. On the add-ons there is Ifly, PMDG and Vistamare., and all work no issues. So It is FSUIPC, that have the problem with me, and also FSX do not close properly and have to close it with the task manager, otherwise it keeps hanging "Not responding" I have also tried just to load a new DLL, with FSUIPC only, by renaiming the original one, and reinstall FSUIPC, so only FSUIPC is in the DLL, I get FSX to crash again with weather.dll error Thanks
Pete Dowson Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 I did what you have asked rename both files, and now FSX crash with weather.dll error. I don't know why. Aha! Then it may all be down to a corrupt weather file after all! In that folder, where DLL.XML is, delete the file called Wxstationlist.bin. FSX will make a new one. Then go to the Documents Flight Simulator X Files folder, where your flights are saved, and remove all of the .WX type files. Put them elsewhere if you think you might want them, but if you use any sort of weather program you don't need them. Try that and let me know. Corrupted weather files read by SimConnect can lead to all sorts of odd symptoms. This would be the first time I heard of it affecting the menu system, but the reason it happens when running FSUIPC is because FSUIPC asks SimConnect for the weather regularly. Pete
walouigi Posted April 6, 2015 Author Report Posted April 6, 2015 Hi Pete, Ok , after many testing, and crashs, I think I have found the problem, I have deleted all FSUIPC files and started all over, only FSUIPC in the DLL. OK no crash. Then removed The DLL, and reactivate old DLL, with no FSUIPC, all OK. Then reinstalled FSUIPC to add it to the DLL with all other addons ok no crash. So the problem was the FSUIPC.INI from the previous version, as FSUIPC do not overide it. So I guess I am ok for now, and just need to reporgram all my keys. So far so good Thanks
Pete Dowson Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 So the problem was the FSUIPC.INI from the previous version, as FSUIPC do not overide it. So I guess I am ok for now, and just need to reporgram all my keys. Did you try removing the weather files as I suggested? There should be nothing at all in any INI file that can do this. It'll be something invoked by an option there which is having the problem. just not invoking it is avoiding, not fixing the problem. I'd like to see the problem actually fixed, or at least understand the reason for it! Have you still got a copy of the original INI? If so please show it to me. And you don't need to delete it all. If there's an option set which is invoking some facility which causes a crash, it will most certainly be in the [General] section, so just delete that. All your assignments, calibrations and so on will then still be intact. Pete
walouigi Posted April 6, 2015 Author Report Posted April 6, 2015 Hi Pete, Yes I did deleted all the weather files as requested, and that did not solve it. Only with a new INI, that I see no crash. walouigi Posted April 6, 2015 Author Report Posted April 6, 2015 Pete, I did copy the rest of the INI to the new one, and all is fine, working at 100%. I have found the problem roots, it was the program FSXWX, where the author requested to replace the "ThermalDescriptions.xml" in the main FSX folder and the" wxmapping.bin" in the weather folder. When I had replace them, it was causing FSUIPC not to loaod in the addons menu, when I left the original all is fime and the FSUIPC and FSXWX work perfectly. So I am a happy camper :) Thank you so much for your help, much appreciated. Have a great one
Pete Dowson Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 I did copy the rest of the INI to the new one, and all is fine, working at 100%. Yes, and in fact there's nonthing non-standard in the [General] section either, so I think thev INI was a bit of a red herring -- i.er diversion down the wrong path. Hmm. Strange. Glad you sorted it out, but do you still have the bad files? I would be curious to work out how they could affect otherwise normal actions in FSUIPC. If you have then, could you ZIP them and send them to petedowson@btconnect.com, please? Pete
walouigi Posted April 7, 2015 Author Report Posted April 7, 2015 Hi Pete, You can get the 2 files from the site here http://www.plane-pics.de/fsxwx/instructions.htm They are the wxmapping.bin, and ThermalDescriptions.xml a bit lower on the page. Hope it will help you. Just a note with the older version of FSUIPC, those files were working no issue, it started with the newest version. At least for me. Thanks again for your help Hani

Hope it will help you. Well, I won't have much time to look before the end of the month. (Also I've followed your link and see the files described but there seems to be no links to download them,). Pete
walouigi Posted April 7, 2015 Author Report Posted April 7, 2015 Hi Pete Here you go I have attched them for you. Let me know your findings, I will look at your reply from time to time and see if you have found anything. Thanks again Hani wxmapping.zip thermaldescriptions.zip
Pete Dowson Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Here you go I have attched them for you. Let me know your findings, I will look at your reply from time to time and see if you have found anything. Well, I installed them, loaded up FSX .... all is fine. FSUIPC's dialogue comes up 100%, no crashes, FS closes down ok. Is there something else I must do to make a failure? On your system I'm sure the bad affects on FSUIPC and on Weather DLL must be down to some corruption of weather data somewhere in the system. It has all the indications of this. Pete
walouigi Posted April 8, 2015 Author Report Posted April 8, 2015 Hi pete, Well, probably as you said, I have a corrupted weather file somewhere, but I cannot pinpoint it. No there is not anything else that I can think of to make the failure, it is these 2 files plus my old INI that was causing the crash, as fas as I know. Anyway I have backed up these 2 original files, and I am using them, and so far so good. So Thanks for the update, and at least we know it is my setup, that is causing that crash. Pete thanks again for all your help and support. Regards Hani
