Pete Dowson Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 I installed 4.946, got the registration info entered and the install completed... Problem is, I don't get a FSUIPC menu item in the pulldown. This is usually a problem in the DLL.XML, but that looks okay, so check if there's an FSUIPC4.INI and LOG file produced in the Modules folder. If so it is running -- I'd need to see the LOG. Either way, what else is appearing in the "pulldown"? (I assume by then you mean the AddOns menu?). Since there's nothing else in the DLL.XML, perhaps you ought to check the EXE.XML too? If there are no addons there is no addons "pulldown". Pete

Michael_B767_ATP Posted October 5, 2015 Author Report Posted October 5, 2015 Hi Ethan, Sorry you're in the same boat I'm in... But it's good to know I'm not going nuts, been staring at this for about eight hours now. I figured it would be a question mark or period out of place, or somthing silly to that effect... But if it is, I can't find it. I know it's usually the DLL.xml file that's the issue with the menu, does anyone have a working dll.xml file. Maybe it's something I just don't see in mine. Thanks Pete
ethanoost Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Hi I wonder what it could be? This is a band new machine with no other programs on. I literally only installed P3DV3 and FSUIPC on it. How could it have gone so wrong so quickly? Lets hope Pete can make sense of it. Keep me posted on any developments, Ethan
Pete Dowson Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 This is a new Windows 7, P3D3, FSUIPC setup. There are no other Addons installed and P3D3 shows no addons menu. Aha! So there was no "pulldown" to pulldown, not that FSUIPC was missing in the "pulldown"! ;-) FSUIPC is running, but there is a simconnect issue. Also note: SimConnectP3D2.dll is located in the following directory C:\Prepar3D v3\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll That's correct. It's always been installed by the FSUIPC4 Installer for P3Dv2 or later because the P3D installer doesn't install the WinSxS SimConnect DLLs. Also note: The Address shown in the SimConnect.cfg (192.168.1.100) points to P3D3's Computer and is pingable with zero packet loss. Not relevant to FSUIPC. FSUIPC doesn't use Networking or the Internet. I have simconnect setup as follow ------------------------------------------ Server Computer A. SimConnect.xml | Location - C:\Users\Flightsim\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3 B. SimConnect.ini | Location - C:\Users\Flightsim\Documents\Prepar3D v3 Files C. Copied WideServer.dll & WideServer.ini into P3D's "MODULES" folder ----------------- Simconnect.xml isn't relevant to FSUIPC unless you have it set incorrectly to prevent local use of SimConnect. As a test try removing that file altogether -- it is not needed unless you are using SimConnect applications across the Network. SimConnect.INI s irrelevant to FSUIPC. That's just to control SimConnect logging. WideServer.DLL and WideServer.INI have not been used since FS2004 days. What on Earth are you doing with those? However, none of that should affect FSUIPC connecting to SimConnect. Here it was not necessary to make a P3D3 version of my SimConnectP3D2.DLL modules, but maybe that's because I also have all the FSX WinSxS Simconnects installed too, like most other users who have any addons.. If it still fails when you remove the SimConnect.XML file, see if installing SimConnect helps. You'll find all the versions of Simconnect in the P3D "redist" folders. Try the Simconnect.msi from redist\Interface\FSX-SP2-XPACK, for example. BTW I think you'll find you'll be needing at least the FSX-SP1 and FSX-SP2 Simconnects installed if you ever intend to use many FSX Addons with P3Dv3. Pete
ethanoost Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 Brilliant What worked for me was to install te FSX-SP1 and 2 as Pete suggested in the above message. Boom.. The menu appeared and Im happy as Larry Thank you Pete
Pete Dowson Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 What worked for me was to install te FSX-SP1 and 2 as Pete suggested in the above message. Boom.. The menu appeared and Im happy as Larry Thank you Pete Theoretically, for FSUIPC, that shouldn't be necessary. I may try and build a P3D3 version of my SimConnectP3D DLL. But first, would you mind showing me the FSUIPC4.LOG from your successful start, please? In the long run you are better off installing the FSX Simconnects in any case, as many add-ons will need them. P3D is right off the root C:\Prepar3D V3 Thanks Pete Hmm. Very strange -- it is actually using the FSX SP2 Simconnect! Can you please check that this file is actually present: C:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll On my system, despite the fact that I do have the FSX SimConnects present, it definitely still only uses my own module, thus: 20452 Trying E:\Prepar3D v3\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll 20499 Found it: trying to connect 20546 FS UNC path = "E:\Prepar3D v3\" I am trying to build a P3Dv3-specific version of my DLL, but I'm having difficulties with that -- my compiler doesn't like the latest data from L-M. However, comparing your results and mine, I don't think it would make any difference. Something else is going on. Maybe it's something to do with having P3D installed in the Windows protected Program Files folders ... but it shouldn't matter. The Modules folder isn't protected el;se you'd not get the Logs you show me! Pete
Pete Dowson Posted October 5, 2015 Report Posted October 5, 2015 I can confirm; If you are starting from scratch with Windows/P3D3, you MUST install the simconnect.msi file located in P3D3 sub folder REDIST (FSX-SP2-XPACK). My setup also shows that it's using FSX SP2 Simconnect! I don't think that can apply to all users. There's something odd going on. My installation does not need FSX SP1 or SP2 and doesn't log that it is using it. Something is preventing SimConnectP3D2.DLL from loading on your two systems only (at present). I'll add some extra logging to try to find out what is going on. Will you run it for me if I do, please? I'd just need the log. nothing else will change, just a replacement FSUIPC4.DLL with an extra line or two of logging. Pete
Pete Dowson Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Please download FSUIPC4946a.zip, and put the enclosed DLL into your P3Dv3 Modules folder. It is identical to 4.946 but it logs one line extra when it cannot load SimconnectP3Dv2.DLL, giving the error details returned by Windows. That's what I need to see. Thanks, Pete
ethanoost Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Hi Pete Sorry for the delay, but I'm in Australia (time difference) I can confirm that the file SimConnectP3D2.dll is in the P3D3 modules folder. I will download the above file, install place it in the modules folder and run P3D, and post the FSUIPC4.log file CHeers Ethan

Pete Dowson Posted October 6, 2015 Report Posted October 6, 2015 Here it is: Thanks. Well, the answer ooks straight-forward. Windows cannot find the file where you say it is and where FSUIPC is looking for it! 15 Trying C:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll 46 !!! Error 126: The specified module could not be found. I must admit I was hoping for something more, er, useful that I could do something about. But having installed the file there and you've seen that it is there, I do not understand why or how it cannot be seen by Windows when it is asked to load it! FSUIPC is of course dependent upon other files there, like the Settings stored in the FSUIPC4.INI file, and, indeed, it is writing the Log you are showing there. So how can it possibly not see the DLL it needs to load? It makes no sense. And, so far, it is only doing this on TWO out of who knows how many systems! FSUIPC has been loading this DLL now on all P3D systems right from version 1.4. I don't understand what's different now. Looks like I'll have to give up and assume it isn't going to affect too many folks. Pete

Pete Dowson Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Here you go. 1965 Trying C:\Prepar3D v3\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll 1965 !!! Error 126: The specified module could not be found. Yes, same as the other chap. As I say above, I fail to understand how Windows cannot see the file if you can! The error number is simply the return from the LoadLibrary call to Windows, used all the time for DLLs. I'm now wondering if Windows or your anti-virus program is locking the DLL because it thinks it is suspicious? Is there any way you can find out? Maybe right-click on the DLL and see if it says there's a problem in Properties? Sometimes you can override it yourself by clicking ok or something? Meanwhile I'll look to see if there's any sort of work-around I can do in FSUIPC -- I know you both have solved it by installing other SimConnects, but that should not be necessary, and if the problem keeps recurring it creates more support work for me and more frustrated users when I'm away. [LATER] I found a facility which may be able to load modules even if they are locked -- though that may only be true if you run the sim "as administrator". To try this one please download FSUIPC 4.946b. I just need to see the log, as before. Thanks. Pete
ethanoost Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 Hi Thank you for you help.My system is working now, although I use the wrong simconnect. Will it make any difference? Also I checked with two of my sim buddies. One of their FSUIPC.LOG files state the same error as mine. 0 Trying C:\Prepar3D v3\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll 468 Trying to connect to SimConnect Acc/SP2 Oct07 ... 484 FS UNC path = "\\FLIGHTSIM-PC\Prepar3D v3\" But he didn't notice any issues because he already has other addons installed and with that I assume other simconnect versions. He uses WIn7 and P3D v3. What Michael (from above) and I have in common, its that both of us are using a new version of P3D for the first time without any previous addons installed. So I guess the problem is a bit more common than you think, its just not necessarily symptomatic.
Pete Dowson Posted October 7, 2015 Report Posted October 7, 2015 So I guess the problem is a bit more common than you think, its just not necessarily symptomatic. Okay, but i cannot make it happen here on any of my systems. Yes, of course I have FSX SimConnect's installed, and it isn't a worry when that is the case. But I need to get the reason for my DLL sorted out. This could be extremely important in the future if I want to take advantage of any new SimConnect facilities offered by P3D -- there are some already which would improve some of the things FSUIPC does. Can you right-clcik on the SimConnectP3D2.DLL, go to properties and see if there's anything there which suggests the DLL is suspect or protected. My only guess is that it's to do with Windows "AppLocker" actions. If it is locked, before Unlocking it (which I am sure you can do in Properties), please download FSUIPC 4.946b and run with that -- I need to see the Log to check whether the alternative call I am using will override the lock. If that makes no difference, try unlocking it in its properties. Please let me know. Pete
Pete Dowson Posted October 8, 2015 Report Posted October 8, 2015 Do neither of you want to check the DLL properties for me, as requested, or try 4.946b for me? Too late for 4.946b -- I just replaced it with 4.947, with improved joystick scanning support. But I'd still like to see a log with that, pretty please? Pete
