MakeRunways aborts

I have the latest version but lately the programme suddenly quits in mid-operation. I have to run it three or four times for it to finish and make the new csv file.

I can't see how it can be an FS9 scenery file error per se, as it always does do a complete run if I persevere and keep restarting it (and never seems to quit in the same place).

Any reason (and fix?) for this?

I have never heard of such a problem before, and if it occurs at a different place each time I can only suggest that you have a disk or memory problem in your hardware.

No matter. It always finishes the csv file after a few tries..

Well, okay, think that. But MakeRunways is used on thousands of systems with no other such reports.

OK, the programme is this time aborting at a certain scenery entry, different from the last time I had this issue, but definitely the same place on this occasion - the list of scenery.cfg entries processed goes by so fast that it took a while, but in the end I tracked down the problem to one single AFCAD file. If I disable this to bgx before I run MakeRunways.exe, the programme runs just fine. Re-enable the bgl file and the programme aborts.

I looked at the AFCAD file in AFCAD2 and there are no errors in it however. It's a small file and I can't see why it would cause any issues. If by any chance you are interested, Pete, (or anyone else come to that) to look at it, (and see if it causes the same problem on your PC?) I can upload it... Otherwise, well, problem sorted, I have a batch file now which disables and re-enables the file every time MakeRunways creates its database...

So I'm afraid is looks more complex that this, and so far very specific to your system. I've never had any other similar crash reports for MakeRunways at all.

Unless I can reproduce it I don't really have much chance of finding it. But one last stab. In the case where it crashes with this file enabled you should still have a partially completed log (Runways.txt). I know you said it was too large, even ZIPped, to send, but could you at least extract the last few entries so I can see where it got to?

Aha, at last -- some crash data. I wish you'd found this in the first place. It pinpoints the place in the program. But can you now confirm you are using MakeRunways version 4.694? If not could you please update and find the crash information in the log for that version -- otherwise the data isn't useful as I only have the current version source.

Also, can you look at a log from when you stop that scenery being scanned and tell me what the very NEXT BGL file examined is? Because from the above it looks like it does actually finish the rogue one successfully.

Thanks for the information. I can see the location of the error, but the error data makes no sense. I think something s causing some sort of stack corruption. But I still need to reproduce the error before I can specifically nail it down to either a data problem in a BGL or a true bug in the code.

If I think of something I'll get back to you, but meanwhile I think I'll have to leave you to use the work-around you've devised.

OK, thanks Pete. I am pretty sure that it is an error 'unique' to my setup, as MakeRunways has only started having problems over the past couple of months - it never objected to this AFCAD (which has been installed for a few years I think) prior to that. Something I added, but it's far to late for me to find out what that 'something' might be. (That said, I did try running MakeRunways with only UAFG + default folders active in the scenery.cfg file however, and the programme still aborted!).

No big deal - I probably never fly to or form UAFG anyway! It's more out of interest to understand what is happening.. If you find out, I'd be interested to know.

Meanwhile, I usually run MakeRunways as part of a series of scripts/macros which update my FSNavigator and PFE information; as I say, it was easy to add another small script to automatically disable UAFG before MakeRunways starts and re-enable it after it has finished.

Hmm. That's interesting, because it's okay doing that here. Did you add it right at the end? Maybe I need to move its loading position.
