Mr. Pete Dowson...help please....

Recommended Posts

Dear Mr. Downson,

I have FliteMap 8.5 running in a P4 connected, via a crossover cable, with another P4, running FS2004ACOF with your GPSout 2.52 in the Modules fs directory. The GPSout aready created the ini file. I did the configuratios that you recomend, but I still doing something wrong yet.It doesn´t work.... :(

On the other hand, the FStarRC 1.83 works just fine!!!

I´ll be gratefull if you could help me.

The INI file GPSout creates will be just the defaults, which are almost guaranteed not to suit your setup. Please check that and edit it suitably, before running FS.

If you still can't get it working, please tell me exactly what you have selected in FliteMap, and let me see your GPSout.ini file. When you use FliteMap's "test" facility, what do you see?

There really isn't anythng complicated or difficult about any of this. If GPSout is installed, it sends stuff out regularly, unstoppably, all the time. If FliteMap doesn't see it it will be because one or more of the settings, in GPSout.INI, or in FliteMap, are wrong, or the connecting cable is wrong.

This is my GPSout.ini file:

[GPSout]

Sentences=RMC,GGA,GSA

Interval=500

Port=COM1

Speed=19200

Of course your COM port may be different.

This is how my FliteMap is set:

Connections menu -- External Device setup:

'Use GPS' is checked

COM2, 19200 speed selected (obviously set COM port to suit)

Garmin selected on left

Garmin GPS 95 NMEA 0183 selected on right

(but I think almost any NMEA 0183 should work)

The bottom left selector (I don't know what it is) reads 'None'.

You can press the "TEST" button there to see what FliteMap is making of any input it gets. If you get none then check the Ports, the Speeds and the Cable.

Regards,

Pete

Mr. Dowson,

thank you very much for your answer. :D :D :D

My GPSout.ini file looks almost like yours,Mr.Dowson.

I use a little bit slower speed, 9600.

That´s the only difference.I already tried with other speeds...nothing. :(

When I start the FliteMap test, nothing happen. And as the user manual says, if doesn´t show anything is because is not connected correctly, right?

The configuration in my FliteMap is almost like yours. Again, the only difference is the speed.

The botton left selector reads "none" as well.

Mr. Dowson, I think there is something wrong with the configuration of my COM port. I´m using the COM3 in the computer that is running the FliteMap and COM1 in the computer that is running FS2004ACOF.

The strange thing is that I have the FS2004ACOF installed in both computers and I´m able to use the Flight Instructor mode, connected with the crossover cable.

I´m not runnig the Flight Instructor mode when I´m using the FliteMap...

It´s so frustrating. I wish I could be as good in computer config as I´m good in flying...But I´ll keep trying. I just have no idea about what could be wrong...Ah , for shure is my brain.... :D :D

Mr.Dowson, I don´t want to disturb you. If you have any idea , I´ll do exactly what you say.

Thank you very, very much indeed.

Muito obrigado.

ypu have a "COM3"? That's unusual.

The strange thing is that I have the FS2004ACOF installed in both computers and I´m able to use the Flight Instructor mode, connected with the crossover cable.

Doesn't that use a Network connection? If so, then the COM ports, if allocated to Windows as a Network will not be usable for normal serial port connections. They are "owned" by Windows. The Network connection doesn't just start when you run Instructor Console and stop when you stop, it is owned by Windows for the entire session.

Seems like you either need to uninstall Windows direct cable connection network, or install another connection between two other COM ports.

Pete

Dear Mr. Dowson.

I figure out the problem...my absolute and stupid fault...

My 56K Modem wasn´t installed. This is because I use a external

ISDN modem for a firewall conection.

Now, when I run FS2004ACOF the GPSout 2.52 start to send the signal.

I can see the small icon in the bottom of my screen.

I´m already using the cross wiring cable for Ethernet.

In the YAKUMO laptop I have a

Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC and in the Gericom laptop

I have a SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.

And now Mr. Dowson I´m in a middle of a "catch 22":

I already fix the problem regarding the 56K Modem

in the YAKUMO(FS2004+GPSout) and, on the other hand,

I tried until now to connect the same 56K modem with the Gericom(FliteMap) via cross wiring (Ethernet) and just realized that I don´t know how to do it.....

Mr. Dowson, could you, please , showme a example about how can I make this connection via Ethernet ...?

I know that this is becoming more than support for the GPSout 2.52

This is already a "class" of computer setting.....:(

Thanks God you are so supportive with everybody ,Mr.Dowson.

My next purchase will be Radar Contact 3 and I´m also happy because there is the "full" FSUIPC on the cd. At least, I will feel better to "give something back to you" because of yout kind  :)

Of course not only because of that, but also because RC 3 is one of the best products around to make the new pilots understand better the communicatios environment. Shure, the Comm1 is great, but is not possible to use with the FS.

Mr. Pete Dowson, again, thank you SO MUCH for your help!!!!!!!! :D

I´ll keep trying and I´ll let you know.... :D

Best regards,

RoC....but now, from München, Germany....4 weeks. :D

(yesterday, one plane went out of the runway after landing,

because of the bad weather..My friend Mathias ATP, told me

it was a wind shear just 2 seconds after the touch down  )

ISDN modem for a firewall conection.

So, you don't need the 56k modem. That shouldn't be relevant.

Now, when I run FS2004ACOF the GPSout 2.52 start to send the signal. I can see the small icon in the bottom of my screen.

What small icon? GPSout does not make one of those. It operates completely invisibly. It sounds like you have something els intercepting the serial port data!

I´m already using the cross wiring cable for Ethernet. In the YAKUMO laptop I have a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC and in the Gericom laptop I have a SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.

Okay, so what is the COM port cable being used for now?

I already fix the problem regarding the 56K Modem

in the YAKUMO(FS2004+GPSout) and, on the other hand,

I tried until now to connect the same 56K modem with the Gericom(FliteMap) via cross wiring (Ethernet) and just realized that I don´t know how to do it

You do NOT want any modem involved in this at all! The link between the two COM ports is just a piece of wire. In fact it only needs three connections at each end -- 1-1, 2-3 and 3-2. There is NO Ethernet on these serial cables. You are getting mixed up between serial ports and Ethernet ports.

Take your modem and put it safely away in a cupboard. Then get a serial port "null modem" cable ("null modem" means NO modem! :) ). Plug it in and try it.

My next purchase will be Radar Contact 3 and I´m also happy because there is the "full" FSUIPC on the cd.

The "full" FSUIPC is available from http://www.schiratti.com/dowson too. There's only one current version, and the latest will always be on the Schiratti site first.

For all the user facilities you have to register in any case. The version on the Radar Contact CD is the same, it won't give you the user facilities free. Radar Contact is accredited so that it runs on any version 3 FSUIPC.

Pete

Mr. Pete,

I just went at VOBIS store and now I have the Null-Modem-Kabel 9/9

:D :D

This cable is German, so I think this time it will work

So, it was hard for me to uderstand that this is the cable to connect at the famous rs323....How stupid I am

Mr.Dowson, thank you for the info about the FSUIPC....I was thinking RC3 had the "full " version....

Thank you so much!!

Best regards

Dear Mr.Dowson,

I think the "winds aloft" don´t want me using the FliteMap :D ...."only a joke"...

I went to Vobis in Arabella Strasse, got the "Null Modem"...

Arrived at the Hotel...for my surprise ,the Gericom have no RS232..

Then I went back and got the Cat5 Patchcale.....The Gericom have no 1394 adaptor....

Then I asked for a paralell cable to maybe use the LPT1...They don´t have it....

The Gericom also don´t have the port PCMCIA....

I´ll explode this computer....he he he :D :D :P ..only a joke... :D

I´m using the FStarRC 1.83 and is very goog indeed.

Of course, there is no room for a idiot like me to try to mess everything...he he :D

The icon that I was talking about is the icon of the windows when the modem 56K is working....only to explain to you what this icon is...

A simple RS232 port with a serial cable....It is so simple...Again, the humans complicating the "simple things".... me, of course....

Mr. Dowson, I´ll bring my Gericom to the VOBIS tecnical support on Saturday and try to find a solution.

The YAKUMO laptop is just great:

http://www.yakumo.com

YAKUMO Q7M Entertainment XD

P4 2.66 Ghz 533 FSB , 1Gb DDR RAM , ATI Mobolity Radeon 9000 high performance chip , DVD-RW , 40GB HD , LAN 10/100 Mbit,

display 17" TFT WXGA. PCMCIA, Mini IEEE 1394, Floopy disk 3.5" .

Mr.Dowson, I saw a picture of you last year , with Mr.Schiratti, inside of one Project Magenta´s simulator. Just great!!! :D  :D

I´ll bring the computer to the guys in Vobis on Saturday, then I let you know. :D

Thank you very much indeed.

No serial port? Ouch. Does it have a USB port? You can get quite cheap USB serial port adapters. That's the only solution I can think of.

What has an Ethernet cable got to do with 1394 (firewire) -- you need an Ethernet port for that. I thought you said you already had an Ethernet connection.

But neither of those are any use for GPSout. Only a serial port will do.

I don't understand any of this, when you said you had a serial port likn already, using COM3 or something, no?

Mr.Dowson, I saw a picture of you last year , with Mr.Schiratti, inside of one Project Magenta´s simulator. Just great!!!

That would probably be the PFC Jet Cockpit, which does use Project Magenta. See http://www.flypfc.com.

Pete

Hallo Mr. Dowson.

You wrote Sr.: "No serial port? Ouch. Does it have a USB port? You can get quite cheap USB serial port adapters. That's the only solution I can think of. "

Yes.I have 3 USB ports in the YAKUMO and 2 USB in the Gericom.

Does it work for the GPSout?

Mr. Dowson, I need the FSUIPC registration!!

I remeber I saw on place that had your Bank details and account number.

Can you give me this info please? I´d like to make a deposit in cash for the WideFS and FSUIPC registration. It will be € 30 right? :D :D

Dear Mr. Dowson, thank you very much for yout atention!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Best regards from Munich.

I will check if in VOBIS I can get it.

If I understod it will be a cable to connect with USB in one side ( to connect at the GERICOM) and in the other side a serial cable to connect at the RS232 in the YAKUMO....?

Is this right Mr.Dowson?

Thank you so lot.

Mr.Pete,

I´m sorry that you didn´t see my last post with one question about the

WideFS and FSUIPC registration and your account number for a cash payement of €30. :(

Maybe it was too much head ache for you, right?

Also , I´d like to let you know that I finally did it!!!!!

The GPSout is working just perfect with the FliteMap.

I discovered that I had a corrupted file inside Windows ,in the computer that was running the FliteMap , probably because a virus. Ater I did the HD format, I installed everything and then

the GPSout signal came to the FliteMap. I´m using an adaptor for the RS232 in the Gericom. :)

Thank you very much for your time and support!!!!! :D

Sorry, no I didn't -- there were two new messages, and the button gadget on the Forum takes me to the last one, it seems, not the last one I haven't read. Sorry.

Really it is not very good for me, you paying such an amount direct in Euros -- the charges made by the bank are too high and the exchange rate is abysmal. If you cannot pay by SimMarket, can you say why? If you want to pay me direct I would like to know the reason as I have agreed with SimMarket primarily to save me all that sort of hassle, leaving me to program. :)

If you want to discuss this further it would probably be better in private -- use the Email button.

The GPSout is working just perfect with the FliteMap.

Good ! Well done.

Good flying!

The GPSout is a amazing toll !!!!

Mr.Dowson, no, there is no problem to pay to Simflight.
