InducedDrag Posted December 9, 2021 Report Posted December 9, 2021 My sim was developed many years ago when Noah was building the Ark! It still runs fast and well but is based on 4 networked PC’s running XP (remember that - fab bit of non crashing s/w) all linked together with the FSUIPC 3.99, WideFS 3.75? etc. running FS2004. I want to come into the modern age using MSFS 2021. I obviously need a modern gaming PC to host this with Microsoft 10/11 and the lasted FSUIPC. Will the latest MSFS FSUIPC7 communicate with the rest of my old system running the old WideFS 3.75 ? from the FSUIPC 3.99 era (on the Windows XP PC’s) ? Thanks in advance for any comments / help to modernise my Ark! But still a good fully functioning Ark at that!

No, you need WideFS7 for FSUIPC7. Note that it is also possible to run FSUIPC7 on a client machine, but that only runs on Windows 10/11.
Franco Papa Posted December 10, 2021 Report Posted December 10, 2021 I have been using fsuipc 3 with fs2004 for years, now it no longer works due to "error opening FSUIPC connection 7", even reinstalling it with the original codes, how can I repair? thanks Franco
John Dowson Posted December 10, 2021 Report Posted December 10, 2021 I have no idea, sorry. What changed on your system? Where is that error produced? You can attach your FSUIPC log files - both the FSUIPC3.log an d installation log file and I can take a look to see if i can see anything. But FSUIPC3 is no longer supported - I have never used this product (or FS2004), but @Pete Dowson may be able to help if you provide further information. John
InducedDrag Posted December 10, 2021 Author Report Posted December 10, 2021 Many thanks for such a fast response John. I thought WideFS7 would probably be needed but was just hoping otherwise. I therefore need to upgrade to at least 2 or 3 modern W10/11 PC’s to upgrade my sim to MSFS 2021. Probably not the best time to do this due scarcity of silicon (hence higher prices), I will have to decide.

WideFS7 is 32-bit and should be ok on Windows XP, as WideFS7 is compatible with FSX that can also run on windows XP, no? But I will check with Pete to confirm - such old systems are before my time I'm afraid and have not any experience with such old systems with out products... John
John Dowson Posted December 10, 2021 Report Posted December 10, 2021 You should be ok with your current version of WideClient on your client PC's, but you would need a WideFS7 license to activate the WideServer component built into FSUIPC7. All WideClient versions should be compatible with any WideServer version, but as you need FSUIPC7 you would need to activate the WideServer built into FSUIPC7 which requires a WideFS7 license. Hope this is clear. I can provide you with a time-limited license for both FSUIPC7 and WideFS7 if you would like to try this, once you have updated your FS PC to MSFS of course. You should try this before purchasing a WideFS7 license, and before taking the drastic step of updating your client PCs to windows 10/11. John
