Skavsta Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 Hello! I'am using FS2002, FSUIPC 3.15 and FSMETEO 6.3. The problem is: I don't get the visibility which is shown in the downloaded METAR. F.e. if ENGM reports 2500, fsmeteo adjusts nevertheless the visibility to 70nm (my default), there is no fog nor mist nor drizzle:-( FOr me it's difficult to understand how fsmeteo correspondents with fsuipc. Both modules are offering the possibility to reduce the visibility at rain/snow. Which option should i activate, which not? Sometimes I get fog or mist for some moments after start of fsmeteo, but this doesn't continue: some seconds later the visibility will be enhanced, and the fog disappears:-(
Pete Dowson Posted November 22, 2003 Report Posted November 22, 2003 I don't get the visibility which is shown in the downloaded METAR. F.e. if ENGM reports 2500, fsmeteo adjusts nevertheless the visibility to 70nm (my default), there is no fog nor mist nor drizzle:-( 2500 meters? FSmeteo certainly should not be setting unlimited in that case. What does the author say? 9999 metres (Europe) or 10SM (America) are auto-visibility values which just mean "more than" the stated vis. In that case it is best to use FSUIPCs "extend METAR max", which will give you a random value above that. FOr me it's difficult to understand how fsmeteo correspondents with fsuipc. FSMeteo just sends data to FSUIPC. FSUIPC sends it to FS. Both modules are offering the possibility to reduce the visibility at rain/snow. Which option should i activate, which not? Either or both. Sorry, all the options are for personal choices. In the UK I tend to keep the maximima quite low, for realism. Elsewhere the preferences would be different. Sometimes I get fog or mist for some moments after start of fsmeteo, but this doesn't continue: some seconds later the visibility will be enhanced, and the fog disappears:-( Sorry, this is a question for FSMeteo. I suspect it's an early version of the program you are using, and it is being improved all the time. Regards, Pete
Alex Amorianos Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Hi, I have exactly the same problem as "Skavsta" wrote. @Skavsta Have you found any solution? If yes, please post here. Regards,
Skavsta Posted November 23, 2003 Author Report Posted November 23, 2003 Thanks for Your answer! But the problem also occured after checking all concerning options. The fog / mist disappears suddenly. This morning I recognized that perhaps another tool ist responsable for this problem: I closed TrafficLook.exe (running via WideFs), and in this moment the visibility increased to 4.0nm - what's this???
Pete Dowson Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 I closed TrafficLook.exe (running via WideFs), and in this moment the visibility increased to 4.0nm - what's this??? Just coincidence. TrafficLook has nothing to do with it, it writes nothing to FS at all. It is only reading information which is being maintained by FS in any case. Pete
Alex Amorianos Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 Hello all, The new version of FSMeteo 6.4 works fine, without the visibility bug. Regards,
Pete Dowson Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 The new version of FSMeteo 6.4 works fine, without the visibility bug. Ah, so it was something in FSMeteo? I must have missed the version with that problem. thanks for letting use know! Regards, Pete
Skavsta Posted December 2, 2003 Author Report Posted December 2, 2003 Yes, It seems that fsmeteo 6.3 was responsable for the "visibility-bug". Since using the new 6.4 beta, all works fine. Now the weather is nearly the same as shown on airports web-cam!!!
tuomas Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 The first issue people noticed with FS2004 was the "9999" problem which FSUIPC corrects. But there is another issue too that shows up during winter: EFRO 021750Z 20006KT 170V240 0200 R21/0325V0500N R03/0400V0700U FZFG VV001 M03/M03 Q1021 21790149 = (nice weather there, eh? :)) Notice the runway braking/friction/runway condition information at the end of the metar - that messes up stuff as well - FS9 seems to interpret it somehow as visibility.. Looks like the FS dev team did most of the testing during summer months... Tuomas
