Hello,

I have a problem now with the PMDG 737NGXu that I reinstalled. I have spent days trying to get the Honeycomb Bravo Flap Axis #6 to work correctly. I bought the ProDesk Sim 737 hardware accompaniment. I simply cannot get the axis for detentes to work. It goes from Flaps=0,16383 and that is it, even with 1 small move. I have done page 46 of the manual so many times. I even deleted the .ini file and started a fresh .ini file and still the flaps go from 0 to 16383 with a single movement. I changed the .ini file to FlapDetents=Yes and nothing works. Here is my settings. I appreciate the help on this. (Yes there is no axis assigned in P3D)

I went back and made a change that I did not see in the PMDG section before I posted. I changed the Flaps Detents to Yes in that specific PMDG section. Still does not work. Goes from Flaps=0,16383 in a single movement

It goes from Flaps=0,16383 and that is it, even with 1 small move.

This indicates that the axis has been registered as a digital on/off axis in your windows registry. To correct this, see the following FAQ entry:

Note the FAQ entry is for saitek devices, for the devices this issue was original reported, but can happen to other devices. Just make sure that you use the correct VID and PID numbers/strings for your device. And (always) take a back-up of your registry before editing it.

Hi John,

Thank you for the reply.

I deleted all the VID_06A3 entries as instructed in the registry. I deleted the FSUIPC.INI file. I restarted the computer. I again imported a PMDG NGXu Honeycomb Bravo profile from Aerosoft and activated it. FYI the profile I downloaded states that axis 6 is assignable in simulator. And to note that nothing is assigned in my P3D axis assignments.

I also verified that in P3D that controller input is set to Raw Input

I tried axis 6 for flaps and again it goes from 0 to 16383 instantly on movement.

I tried something different after this. I set up P3D flap axis. Now it kind of works. It has the detents, BUT it doesn't go all to flaps 40 or to flaps 0. Every detent in between works.

But I want FSUIPC to handle this which is why I paid for it.

Any help is much appreciated.

Jeff

No, you were not instructed to do that - that is the vendor id for Saitek. As I said:

The VID for the Honeycomb Bravo is 294B, and the PID is 1901 (as reported in your FSUIPC6.log file). So please try with those.
If you still have issues after that, please attach your FSUIPC6.log and FSUIPC6.ini files (and not paste contents).

Hi John,

Thank you for the response. Forgive my ignorance on computer registry entries and completely misunderstanding the instructions from Pete as I am not a computer wizard! LOL. FYI I used to have the Saitek before getting the Honeycomb which is why Saitek was in my registry. Thank you for pointing the way to the Honeycomb IDs.  (Yes I did back up my registry! LOL) I did delete those Honeycomb entries and reset everything. I started a fresh FSUIPC.ini file with the PMDG NGXu.

The flaps settings took a couple of hours to get working. Not easy!

Last question for you. It took me a while to get the FSLabs A320 configured in FSUIPC and the default Mooney (Simple test plane as it is), so can I simply copy and paste those profiles that I have backed up into the new .ini file without disrupting the current .ini file that currently has only the PMDG setup? I simply do not want to go through the setup grief again.

Again...Thank you!

Hi John,

I did a test flight and still have problems. I cannot get the flaps axis to work correctly. All detents are off by 1 setting. Meaning if I select flaps 5 on the ProDesk Sim hardware it shows in the sim as flaps 10. The same if I select flaps 10 then the sim shows 15 And I cannot get the flaps to go to 0 (flaps up) or 40 (full flaps) using the axis. I have to manually select those in the sim. I took off the plastic detent hardware and used only the #6 axis full range and I still cannot get the axis to go to flaps 0 or flaps 40.

I am sorry but am I missing something?

Last question for you. It took me a while to get the FSLabs A320 configured in FSUIPC and the default Mooney (Simple test plane as it is), so can I simply copy and paste those profiles that I have backed up into the new .ini file without disrupting the current .ini file that currently has only the PMDG setup? I simply do not want to go through the setup grief again.

Yes, that's fine. Make sure you copy across the [Profile.xxx] section (where xxx is the name of the profile), as well as all the [yyy.xxx] sections, such as [Buttons.xxx], [Axes.xxx], etc.

First, can you please attach your files rather than pasting their contents. This is a lot better/easier for me and keeps the posts to a reasonable length.

And what is this "ProDesk Sim hardware"? Your flaps are assigned to the Honeycomb Bravo, and I your initial issue is that the flaps axis was registered as a digital on/off axis.

For your Bravo flaps configuration, you should read and follow the flaps detent calibration instructions, if you really want to calibrate with detents, on page 46 of the user manual, as you don't seem to be following the instructions. For example, For the minimum detent (Flaps off),:

Quote

FlapStarts=-16384,-12143,-7774,-3662,-129,4480,8575,12927,16383
FlapEnds=-16384,-12143,-7774,-3662,-129,4480,8575,12927,16384

So minimum is only when the axis lever is exactly at -16384, whereas the instructions state:

Quote

1. Set the flaps lever to a position a bit inside the Flaps Up position/notch (i.e. towards your Flap #1), and make this the minimum (i.e. click the left-hand ‘Set’). The zone for Flaps 0 is now set. You don’t change the minimum again (unless you need to adjust Flaps 0 zone on the axis).

i.e. you want an axis range around the detent position if using detents. Similarly, your "Flaps full" range is 16383-16384, and all the detents in-between are for fixed positions only. Compare this to the example given in the manual (also for the 737), where you see ranges around each detent:

Quote

FlapStarts=–16384, –16219, –15450, –12975, –6980, –573,4606,15600,16217
FlapEnds=–16256, –16200, –15417, –12950, –6950, –550,4644,15650,16384

Also consider if you want to use detents at all - also from the manual:

Quote

Do not even entertain the idea of doing this for an ordinary free-moving flaps lever. It simply isn't worth it—you'll have more difficulty selecting the correct flaps than by simply making small movements and observing the gauge.

Further to my last comment, as you say:

This would indicate that the detent settings are off. Try the following settings:

Quote

FlapStarts=-16384,-13543,-7474,-3252,-329,4280,8325,12687,16183
FlapEnds=-16184,-12100,-7754,-3562,-100,4440,8505,12887,16384

and then adjust as needed. Note that you can edit the ini file directly if you like, but make sure you do this when the the FSUIPC window is open and showing the axes assignment tab, and then click the Reload button to load your changes. Then close the FSUIPC window and test. Repeat until you get the ranges correct for your detent positions.

Here is a pic of the hardware detent package that I bought specifically for the 737 from Pro Desk Sim. It is simply a hardware add-on to the Bravo. It adds a nice level of realism once I get it working! 🤣. I haven't installed the whole set yet.

I kept reading that first line in the manual and now realize that this is true! LOL..."Do not even entertain the idea of doing this for an ordinary free-moving flaps lever. It simply isn't worth it—you'll have more difficulty selecting the correct flaps than by simply making small movements and observing the gauge."

However, I will keep at it and to try to get it working. $250 will not be wasted! 🤣

In the future I will attached .ini files. I always recalled in the past that Pete always requested to see the .ini entries in forum posts, or so I believed, and I tried to accommodate that to you. My apologies.

Again thank you very much for your help. I will report back when I get this thing working.

Ok, so its the Pro Desk Sim add-on package that is providing the detents - that is what I was missing!
Try the settings I gave and adjust as needed. As it is difficult to get an axis range value when using such a detent add-on, its probably easier to adjust the detent ranges in ini file directly (and reload afterwards - as per my previous instructions). Your problem is because you are using a specific axis value (FlapsStart = FlapsEnd) for each detent. an axis with 32768 values is never going to hit that value exactly every time on each detent, which is why you need a range around the (central) detent value for each detent.

Ok, thanks. Pete didn't mind attached or pasted - the problem with pasted is that many people just post extracts, and pasting makes the topic a lot longer and IMHO more difficult to read. With an attachment, you know its the whole unadulterated content.

Hello John,

As promised I am reporting back. IT WORKS NOW!! I have been busy with life this week and today I had time to work on it. I took 4 small 20nm flights from one airport to another just to test the PMDG NGXu. All flaps settings work as expected. All detents using the Pro-Desk add-on package works. I am VERY HAPPY!

I have been simming since the 90's. The last decade I have been using Saitek Yoke and throttle. Simple hardware and using SPAD.Next to work with it. I've been a registered FSUIPC user since version 4, I think. It's been a while. I am getting old LOL. I decided a few months ago to upgrade the hardware to something "fancy". The Honeycomb has been a headache to say the least. I see our fellow simmers with garage size full size cockpit set up and see what a nightmare it must be to setup. (side note JEALOUS! LOL)

I have uploaded my file to help those out there with settings. It is not perfect and in fact I have some settings I need to fix. Reverse thrust I need to work on. But the flaps settings work with the detents. Very nice 😀

Thank you (and Pete) for your help for everything. I greatly appreciate it.

Jeff
