What does this mean - do you actually have a question? The message is self-explanatory...

Any issues, please explain what they are and attach your InstallFSUIPC7.log file.

Why?
The version you are trying to install is v7.2.16 - the latest and only supported version is 7.3.20. Please download and install the latest version, available from fsuipc.com.

Are you using the MS tore version of MSFS? If so, the UserCfg.opt file should be in one of the following locations:
    $LOCALAPPDATA\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\UserCfg.opt
    $LOCALAPPDATA\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\UserCfg.opt

If you get the same issue, determine where your UserCfg.opt is located, and check that the windows environment variable $LOCALAPPDATA is set correctly. See https://www.howtogeek.com/787217/how-to-edit-environment-variables-on-windows-10-or-11/.

No, I downloaded MSFS from steam and I keep having the same error with the 7.3.20 version.

Have you ran MSFS at least once before trying to install FSUIPC7?

For steam installs, the UserCfg.opt file should be in the following location:
    $APPDATA\Microsoft Flight Simulator\UserCfg.opt
where  $APPDATA (usually) resolves to C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming

If that cannot be found, the installer presumes that you have an MS Store version.

So, as I said before, check where your UserCfg.opt file is located, and check that  $APPDATA is set correctly.

I found the exact location of the UserCfg.opt which is C:\Users\pauld\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\UserfCfg.opt

It seems that $APPDATA isn't existing in my computer. Instead it is replaced by %AppData% and get me to this location: C:\Users\pauld\AppData\Roaming. So I tried to add $APPDATA following the guide you previously send me but my computer still can't acces it.

$APPDATA and %AppData% are the same thing - just different symbols used by the software to designate a windows environment variable. If AppData exists and is correct, I have no idea why the installer can't see this file. Please remove what you added, and attach your InstallFSUIPC7.log file.

If the installer cannot read that file, for whatever reason, you will just have to manually install the WASM module and manually set-up the auto-start - that is all this is needed for.

  • 10 months later...

I've run into this same issue. In my case it's connected to the fact that, for OS safety reasons, the Windows account I run FS2020 in is NOT an 'administrator' account, but a 'standard user' account. When I launch the FSUIPC installer, it wants to 'run as administrator' which means it's looking for UserCfg.opt in the %localappdata% folder under C:\Users\Admin\Appdata\Local' and not finding it, which makes sense because the file actually exists under the path 'C:\Users\Capho\Appdata\Local\...'

In the installer file sample posted above, it also references two separate user names ('c:\users\pauld' and 'c:\users\emman') so I suspect the same thing may be happening there.

Ok, that is interesting. So it seems that the installer is picking up the environment variables from an 'Admin' account, rather then the user's account.
I think the admin privileges are only needed for the registry update and not the installation itself. I will see if I can update the installer to either not request admin privileges, or to only request for the registry update and not for the other parts of the installation process.

@Capholland Please note that this issue is already documented in the README.txt included in the zip file:

Quote

Problems running FSUIPC7
========================
...
5. If, when running the installer, you are prompted for a password for a user with Admin privileges, then please cancel and do not install as doing so will
install certain items (e.g. documents) in the wrong place. If you have already installed this way, please uninstall using the created uninstaller (or via
   the windows App management panel).
This situation occurs when the user account installing FSUIPC7 doesn;t have admin privileges, which Windows automatically requests when running the
installer (even though these are not needed by the installer). The correct way to install in such circumstances is to temporarily grant admin privileges
to the user account under which you wish to install FSUIPC7. Once you have installed, you can remove this elevated privilege.

The only possible thing I can do with this issue is to see if I can get the installer to run without admin privileges, as these are not even necessary. I think I have looked at this before (hence that note in the README on this issue), but I will check again when I get time.

It seems that admin privileges are needed to run the uninstaller.

When the installer is ran, it is windows that either asks for the permissions to be elevated or requests an admin login. The installer code only has access to this user's details, so if you change to an admin login, it is not possible to retrieve the user details from the standard user account.

Therefore you need to follow the instructions in the README.txt. If this is not possible, then you would have to manually install the auto-start component and maybe also the WASM module.
