Actually, the game is optimized for 6 Hours gameplay. Since you were playing a generic session on LAX for around 12 Hours. That's the cause of the issue you were facing.

Most of the time you will find spacing OK but when it's not then its the controller's job to fix it.

Actually, It's a controller error the first one is slower prop airplane while the second one is a faster jet. If you instruct one or the other to another runway the problem will be solved.
