  1. I figured out that there is a pattern to the madness

When I hit the L key a few times, My primary six pack lights up and down. The L key is tied to the Nav lights switch of FSX. However, Vor 1 and Vor 2 is not linked to the Nav lights any more. (The latest version of the driver for FI was changed I suspect) Instead VOR1 and VOR 2 turns on and off, if I turn off and on the Avionics on/off.

This is a driver bug that needs to be fixed. This bug was introduced in the last version. The earlier version did not have this issue

Yeah.. I bought the 7 gauges much earlier as and when FI came up with those..so they have amber LEDs.. By the time I ordered the VOR2, they had changed it to white LED backlight. So its stands a bit. But thats ok. IT still looks good.

I am also using Saitek Gauges (2 of em) foe Engine gauges... and ADF. This way I change those depending on the aircraft I am flying. It gives me flexibility and also helps keep the cost reasonable.

  3. I have this same issue with VOR1 and VOR2. The other 6 gauges works fine.

In fact, all 8 gauges used to work fine on my old XP machine.. I had no issues with backlight. Since I built my nrw i7 Win 7 MAchine. When I hit the "L" key all the lights are turned on in the FSX Aircraft and the 6 primary gauges light up. But the VOR1 and VOR2 doesn't light up. But sometimes, all 8 lights up. I am not sure exactly when the VORs backlightsup or when they don't. And the backlight test works for all the gauges. So its not a harfware issue.

  4. OK..I have my 8 pack GA gauges up and running good. Now I want to move on to the IO module.,

So I was reading the manual on how to use the IO card here (I am new to electronics so please forgive my ignorance)

    http://www.flightillusion.com/manuals_FI/manualIO.pdf

    On Page 5/Fig 5 I have a question.

Lets say I want to connect 2 simple switches and 2 LEDs. Thats it

    I) For the Switch 1, I need to run a single wire to the A1 (Green) and the other end of the switch running a second wire to the Grnd (Blue. Correct?

    2) for the Switch 2, I need to run a single wire to the A2 (Green) and the other end of the switch running a second wire to the same Grnd (Blu).? Although there are 4 grnds there are 16 switches to connect so I would think the blue is shared. So basically one end (the -ve end) of the switch goes to a common gnd?

    Is my understanding correct?

Now for the LEDs, I am looking at Fig 3 on page 4

    3) For the LED 1, I need to run a wire from the Yellow (+5V) to the +ve side (anode) of the LED. Is this correct? and another wire connecting the -ve side of the LED to one of the 18 Red say A1. Is that correct?

    4) For the LED 2, I need to run a wire from the same Yellow (+5V) to the +ve side (anode) of the LED and another wire connecting the -ve side of the LED to one of the empty 18 Red say A2. So the basically the Yellow sould be connected to a common grid and from that comming grid connect to each +ve (anode) side of the LED.

    Have I understood correctly?

Another Question is there a commen connecting wire hookup thingi I can get/buy so that all the wires goes to this common thingi and then from there connect a single wire to either the Gnd (in case of input switch) and another single wire from the common connecting thingi to the Yellow for power (+5V)?

Can someone validate this please and correct me if I have misuderstood something.

  5. I ordered two VOR1 (GSA-58 VOR with GS) with the assumption that I can use them as VOR1 and VOR2 (the VOR2 GS as an ILS backup).

I hope GSA-58 is not tightly coupled with VOR1 in the sim. and that I can also use it as VOR2 in the sim.

I am posting this Q here since this would be useful for others.

  6. All right Pete. I got this fixed.

Yes.,..when I go to Flight sim controls I see a USB Joystick showing up there... and I did not have a Joystick connected. But I was worried to remove it since I had so many USB gadgets connected.

Today for some reason I decided to delete my FSX.cfg to start fresh and guess what.. that USB joystick was not in the controls anymore and that fixed the problem

    Granma's medication. Delete the fSX.cfg./

    :)

Thought I'd come here and find a closure to this thread.

  7. Sorry Pete.

    Lets do this again.

Goal: I want to program a button on the CH Yoke to send Shift+C keystroke...each time I press that button.

    1. I goto FSUIPC from the menu and select the tab "Buttons+Switches"

    2. I then Click my button. It recognizes that I just clicked on the button.

Its now asking me to select an option "Choose the action for this button": "Select for Key press" or "select for FS control".

But I am unable to select either. Moving the cursor over either of them and left mouse click does nothing. and I can't get out

    Manny

In fact, once I click on the "Buttons+Switches" tab, I can't go to another tab. Mind you..I have not clicked on a button or a key.. I simply go tothe "Buttons+Switches" tab and I now try to go to any of the other tabs and it wouldn't let me do that. the only way to get out is to kill FSX.

  8. I was trying to assign a key stroke to a button on my ch-yoke.

So I go to the FSUIPC Setting Key press tab and then I click the button I want to program. then it tells me to press the key ..I do "Shift+C".

Nothing happens... I now can't get out. I try to hit another tab ..it wouldn't accept. I hit esc ..nope. Nothing. I keep hitting all kinds of buttons and what not... I try selecting some of the open check mark options on that pop up. Nothing.

I have to kill FSX to get out.

I remember I had this issue a while back, I thought this problem went away later..and now is here. Or maybe its always been here. Not sure. and Mind you ..if I leave FSX and this point and go to a Browser or something.. I can't get this assignment pop to appear by changing window context.(Alt-Tab). I have to close all the open windows and I would see a strange looking pop up without any letters on it.. This is assignment popup.

PS. I have the latest FSX October 23rd 2007 (3 MB) release

  9. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/pc-cockpit/s282861.php

This would not make sense to have the six pack using this. if thats what one wants then may as well have a 14"LCD panel.

But what I am thinking is, get 1 or 2 of these and this could be an interim solution while waiting for Flight Sim guages. and If its flexible, say, use it for Turn coordinator and when FI puts out the TC, change it to a VOR/GS and when FI puts out the VOR/GS move it for something else. You could always have 1 or two of these in addition to FI guages for your sim and use as a compliment guages specific to a particular aircraft.

Not sure if I could use that to display the PMDG 747 MFD. That would be awesome.

Very interesting indeed. Thought I'd share.

  10. IS it possible to use the Generic guage for RPM and/or MP (Manifold pressure)?

I checked the software and I did not see any RPM or MP option to assign to a single needle guage. There is none. I see an RPM but thats not for GA type RPM.

    But the product description says..

The needle can then be calibrated in the software. Any FS gauges that has an offset readable by FSUIPC is a possible faceplate.

The GSA56 comes with a bezel and a persplex® transparent plate.

IF it is possible..can anyone explain how its possible, when the software does not have this defined already?
