Hi Volker, Hi Sascha,
Is it possible to add a Range Ring to FSCommander so that it only draws aiports and navaids within a given range? I appreciate that the zoom caters for this to some extent but a range ring would provide two additional benefits:
1) It would work in a circular fashion whereas the zoom function appears to only apply to the horizontal scale. The vertical scale changes relative to the latitude when zooming.
2) It would allow us to zoom out without FSC having to draw everything outside the range ring, which would save on the refresh rate and allow us to see where we are in relation to the geographical area without having a mass of navaids on the map.
I typically pick an aiport that's manned in VATSIM then look for another within a certain range. It would be so useful to see at a glance only the airports that are within a given range without being tied to the zoom and the Measuring tool.
Just an idea but I do hope you'll consider it for a future version?
Many thanks!

Good point! My co-pilot has a serious sight problem - if we had more control over all the fonts (name/size/bold/color) he could do some of the flight prep :D

Hi Pete, I've tried the latest beta (4.541) and the problem appears to be solved so many thanks your efforts!

Thanks Peter, sorry for the delay, something cropped up last night and am at work at the moment. However I'll take a look at the new version when I get in this evening and report back asap,
Best as always!

Hi Pete
I'm getting abends starting FSX with the new beta module FSUIPC 4.5.3.9 The previous beta worked fine but with this one the FSX form opens as a completely black window and after several seconds I get the "FSX has encountered a problem and needs to close" dialog.
The FSUIPC log is pretty sparse so I'm including it below and I took a look in the Event log - the abend is also shown below.
Let me know if you have time to look at this and need anything other info:

Hi Pete
I noticed there's a drop-down box on on one of the FSUIPC config tabs that allows us to select which data is shown as the TCAS identifier. But there doesn't appear to be an option to show the multiplayer callsign. Is it possible to add that so programs like FSCommander display our VATSIM callsigns agains the displayed aircraft?
All the best

No probs thanks Sascah. I took a look and think it could be a question for Pete Dowson so I'll hop over there....

Hi Sascah, hi Volker
Is there a way to display the multiplayer callsigns rather than their airline? I noticed they're displayed as,for example, SPEEDBIRD no BAW123 and it would be great to be able to see which airplane symbols belong to the pilots I'm listening to on VATSIM.
Sorry if I missed something, I checked the forum and can't find anything in the manual.

Hi guys,
I'm finding the new minimum screen size a bit of a problem - I can see why you've introduced it but it'd be great if you could remove the resitriction in a future release? I'm happy to live with missing bits of the status bar and them menus will still work if the buttons are 'off screen' but I really need the whole FSC screen to be smaller and with v8.5 I can no longer squeeze it into the available space.
Many thanks!

Ah, I see! OK, thanks Volker. (Would it be possible in a future version to add something to the cfg to control the color of the circle background and the numbers?)
All the best!

HI all,
Does anyone know how to change the colour of the Runway ID text (the rwy number that's drawn in the circle at the end of each runway)?
I can't see it in the Colours cfg file or the options screen but the various pre-loaded themes appear to change the colour and the default white is too 'thin' to see on my display.
Thanks!

Exellent idea, thanks Peter. Must be honest that hadn't occured to me but it's a good solution that I can work into my code quite easily!

Hi Peter, I appreciate this is squeezing a square plug into a round hole but I was wondering if the "Battery Never Dies" check box in the FSUIPC dialogs has an accessible offset I can use? (I'm trying to simulate ground power).
The offset at x32F6 seems to offer some control over that checkbox but only in so far as it seems to disable the option itself. I'm really after a switch that toggles the battery behviour (normal or lasts forever).
My new overhead panel has a switch for ground power and at certain airports (logic tba) I want to light up the Ground Power Available annunciator. By flicking the switch when that light is on my battery will never die, effectively simulating external power. At other airports with no ground power I won't have this option so I'll be left with a normal battery life and an APU.
Not essential but it'd be a nice addition to my overhead if it's possible?
Have a good bank holiday,
All the best

Hi Pete, the offset is 6e4f6e65 but don't forget that this it's now reporting combatfs.exe as the failing module, not FSUIPC.
Thanks again!

Hi Peter, got a little further this time but I'm now getting an abend in the CFS1 exe when I click Fly Now. I''ve installed CFS2 and the FSUIPC.DLL works so I'll have a play over the weekend to see what's available to me. I wouldn't spend any more time on this Peter, it's really just an experiment to see how much of my homebuild could be 'plumbed' into a fighter sim but it's no real biggy if I can't get it working, and as you said yourself these combat sims are really old!
Appreciated the help though!

The FSUIPC.ZIP file on the Schiratti site contains more than one file. It contains the User Guide, the Advanced User Guide and several other files too. How are you not seeing these?
Ah, once again I'm being vague or missing important bits, sorry! There are indeed a number of files in the Schiratti download but I was expecting an installer executable like you ship with FSUIPC4. Having read the User Guide I can now see this wouldn't be expected in FSUIPC3.
As the User guide points out, there's nothing to installing FSUIPC3 -- it's merely a matter of copying the DLL to the Modules folder. Just one simple step. That's it! There's only ever been an Installer for FSUIPC4 (for FSX/ESP), and that's only because several other more complex things need doing for those, specifically concerned with SimConnect. In fact I did just that - dropped the dll into the CFS1 modules directory and then started up CFS1.
A "full install" consists of copying the DLL into the modules folder, exactly as documented. It has never been any different. By "abending" do you mean crashing?Yes, here are the screenies.
One extra thing - the opening screen (the sepia movie of the pilots scrambling) plays perfectly well, it's only when I hit ESC to bypass this movie that the abend occurs.
And a bit more detail...
And here' s the log (I've set Debug=Please in the General section but the log appears to be saying it's still switched off?)

ps Pete, it's the bank holiday - this can wait until next week, no rush really!

Can anyone point me to a download site that contains the full installer for FSUIPC3? The zip file on the official page only contains the DLL but I'm fairly sure there was more to it than just one file when I installed it all those years ago.
I'm trying to get CFS 1 working with it and am having problems making it run without abending so I'm hoping a full install will fix it. I still have the licence key but long since lost the software when I upgraded to FSX.
Thanks for any links or pointers!

None that I know of. All of the SimConnect variables for the GPS are read only.
I guessed as much but thought it was worth checking.
I found the EFIS switches were controllable via the gauge's named Local Variables (L Vars), after adding the facilities to FSUIPC4 for listing and accessing these. Using the Loglvars Lua plug-in I supplied I don't see any named variables for a GPS. Even with the FSX G1000 loaded there are none which appear applicable.Ah, I see. Oh well, appreciate you looking all the same, thanks.
There's a whole array of GPS controls in FSX. Do any of them work? Do any of them do the job? They are the ones beginning "GPS ...".I'm not sure they're ideal, I guess it's possible to select specific waypoints using Controls if I have an index number from the offset. I'll explorer at the weekend...
Thanks again,
All the best!

Hi Sascha, hi Volke, hope you're both well. I've downloaded the "v8.5 full" pack but can't find any release notes in there,is there somewhere I can take a look at the changes that went into the latest version?
Many thanks

Hi Pete
I'm using FSCommander to save flightplans which I then push into both FSX and my Ellie Avionics suite with a custom 'distribution' program (don't ask why, long story!).
This works well until I'm enroute and I'm advised which STAR to expect on arrival. When I save the new copy FSX turns the plane back towards Waypoint #1 to start the FP over again.
My current workaround is to turn off LNAV, load the flightplan, use the GPS menu to pick-up the route from the last WP that I crossed, then turn LNAV back on. All a bit of a palaver so I was wondering if there's any way offset x616C can be made to work?
I wouldn't normally ask - it's documented as Unwritable - but I think you recently exposed some offsets or controls for the FSX EFIS switches and it made me wonder if any of the GPS functions were also now controllable?
Not a problem if you can't do anything - like I said, I have a work around - but it would be useful if I could add a procedure to my flight plan 'distributor' to set the current waypoint offset after I reload the FP.
All the best

Yep, all clear thanks Pete. Will let you get on with it :)

Range Rings in a future version?
in (Former) FS Commander Support Forum
Posted
That's great thanks Sascha!
Just to clarify the difference between the zoom and a range ring: the zoom fills the entire screen whatever the zoom level, the range ring would cause anything outside it to be hidden regardless of zoom level (if the range was 200nm and I zoom out to 1000nm 80% of the map would be empty of navaids)
Thanks again :D
