  1. I just installed FS Acceleration and the Add-ons menu has vanished. Having jumped through hoops* all last night I've finally managed to persuade the thing to un-install and having rebooted, checked that the Add-ons menu is still missing (yes) I've re-installed FSAcceleration. Although it appears to install a new version of Simconnect I still have no Add-ons menu. I deliberately didn't re-install SP1 as I wanted to see if Simconnect is upgraded by FSAcceleration and whether re-installing it would fix the problem.

I'm loathe to waste much more time on this as it's a pig to un-install but I desperately need my Simconnect to work - all my hardware is mute without it. If we can't figure out the cause I'll have to bin the Acceleration pack and revert to good old SP1 - big shame but can't say I'm suprised - sounds like Simconnect's been the runt of the litter since Microsoft had that particular stupipheny.

Anyhow, enough sighing. The logs from FSUIPC and Simconnect follow - if you think any extra info might help I'd be glad to post it, just let me know what you need.

Incidently the logs represent a full session of starting FSX and closing it down. Am I missing something - I'd expect a ton more info? (email addy's been editted to foil the spam trawlers)

Just installed the SDK that comes with FSAcceleration, turned off McAfee, installed it then ran ..\SDK\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib\Simconnect.msi. Still no Add-ons menu.

    === Later still ===

It occurs to me you may need to see my dll.xml file so here it is. As you can see I've disabled everything but FSUIPC to try to isolate the problem. This file worked fine with everything enabled until FSAcceleration was installed

    * For the record I noticed people in other forums have also reported a problem un-installing or repairing FSAcceleration. It keeps reporting that another program's already running setup and refuses to continue. I've thrown it at Microsoft, maybe they'll issue a service pack...

  2. I couldn't figure this out either but it turned out to be un-necessary. I only use it when I fly online and I do that using FSInn. Fortunately the FSInn menu in FSX contains 'Settings' which lets to configure buttons to various things, including Squawk.

I've set up Transponder Standby, Mode C and Ident using the FSInn Settings panel and I use GoFlight to set the frequency but I could just as easily set it but tweaking the 2 bytes at offset &h0354 (4 digits in BCD format: 0x1200 means 1200 on the dials. To quote the manual).

    Hope this helps

  3. It shouldn't matter what you change with the Rotary Encoders - so long as there's an FSUIPC control you should be able to adjust FS using the FSUIPC interface. I've 'hijacked' once of my GoFlight rotary encoders to change the zoom level in the GPS panel and I know it will work for Decision Height as I change that the same way but through my own hardware interface.

You use the FS menu to launch FSUIPC, click on the Buttons/Switches tab and turn the encoder in one direction. The info on the FSUIPC tab should tell you it' recognised a button push (even though we all know it's an encoder - FSUIPC doesn't need to care). As soon as you see that click the 'FS Control' tick box and select the item you want to change in the drop down box beneath it (eg GPS Increase Zoom or whatever). Once you OK that you should find each one of those soft little clicks will change send that command - zoom in a little in my case - and you just repeat the process by clicking the Rescan button and turning the encoder the other way before you pick a new itme to control (eg GPS Decrease zoom).

May have the details a little awry here - I'm writing this from memory at wort but it should help you get it working.

  4. I'm trying to read the NWI offsets at xC024 onwards but VB6 is having none of it, just returns zero for each variable. I don't believe it's my code as I'm just adding extra reads to a program that works fine for loads of other offsets (altitude speed etc). I believe I'm using the correct data types eg

    Private RC As Long

    Private WindCeiling As Integer

    FSUIPC_Read &HC0FC, Len(WindCeiling), VarPtr(WindCeiling), RC

and it appears be only having trouble with the weather offsets and above, so any ideas would be gratefully received. Anyone else had trouble with these offsets in VB6? (Using FSUIPC 4.2.5)

    Many thanks

  5. UKATC provides mid-range ATC for people who don't want to go the whole VATSIM hog. For the controlled sessions anyone can join regardless of version - it's FSX compatible.

The flight plans are for the Midweek Adventures each Wednesday, which are just a bunch of really friendly people having fun in the mountains. The guys who host these sessions spend a lot of their own time researching the flight plans and putting them together for everyone to enjoy and I'm not about to stamp my foot and point at their website.

I was hoping a little conversion tool existed that would allow me to fly with them again now that I'm using FSX but no probs, I'll just do it VFR and try to stay in formation with someone!!

    Ian

  6. Hi Bill, thanks for replying. I don't have FS9 anymore (disc is cracked and I use FSX now) so I can't run FSNav. The flight plans I need to convert belong to UKATC and I can't really ask them to export them because I only occasionally get to fly with them but it seems to me there are a lot of disaffected FSNav customers that are jumping ship and may need something like this to convert their plans en masse.

    Ian

  7. Anyone out there got something that can convert FSNav flight plans to FSCommander format?

(FSX format will do but I'd rather have FSCommander)

I emailed Helge months and months ago to ask for the file format but got no response whatsoever.

I occasionally fly with http://www.UKATC.com who have an enormous library of adventure flight plans but they're in FSNav format which doesn't work for FSCommander.

I'd appreciate pointers to any conversion tools!

    Cheers

  8. You can save your FSCommander flight plan in FSX format, load it in the Flight Planner page in FSX and flick the GPS switch. You then have two options - you can either activate the NAV switch on your AP and FSX will fly the route all by itself or you can ignore the GPS entirely, select HDG mode and use the AP interface in FSCommander to control your AP just like FSNav does.

Give it a try. I mainly use FSCommander for flight planning, creating routes is as easy as shift-clicking with the mouse but has the advantage of a much easier to use SID/STAR interface.

I'm afraid I don't do long haul but in the old days I did and from experience I can vouch for FSCommander handling everything except altitude to automate a flight.

    Good luck!

  9. This is baffling! I have three more suggestions:

Use the outside (track) view during the tack off and pay attention to the wing surfaces. Are the spoilers raised at any point?

Check fuel quantities before and after you load the plan - is FS automatically refuelling you? In my experience a half empty 747 is hard to keep down whereas a full one is a bitch to get off the ground. V1s of 175kts and more aren't unusual with a full load which is why I was asking about the runway length - it needs timme to build the required speed. (I had a similar problem with the old Concorde model. I just couldn't make it take off until I saw a flight deck video and realised they used after burners. They gave the extra kick for the old dear to build enough speed to unstick).

Don't ask for take off clearance, just start your roll and see if you can get off the ground.

In fact save your flight on the runway just before you take off and do all your preparation from there. Write down a check list of everything you're doing and then repeat the process until you figure it out - each time you re-try the take off drop the last item on your checklist so it gets shorter and shorter. If anything on there is causing a problem it's removal should suddenly allow you to take off. It'll take a while but it sounds like you have no choice!

Good luck and pleeeease - when you figure it out let us know what it was!!!!

  10. It's a mystery alright!

Try it in a plane with no autopilot just to see if the AP is pinning you to the ground. Certainly in FSX if you activate the Autopilot without engaging HDG hold it will keep you on your current heading and prevent your from turning. In fact you need to engage HDG mode then deselect it if you want to manually change direction while letting the AP control the height.

I guess it could be that you're loading the flight plan, engaging the autopilot without selecting ALT hold but that's enough to maintain your flight level (ie ground level).

I'm fresh out of other ideas so if it's not that .... :(

  11. I am using FSC for what it's worth but it's not as user friendly as I would like it to be.

In the absence of any info about FSNav why not post comments and requests in the FSCommander forum http://forums.simflight.com/viewforum.php?f=155

Both Sascha and Volke (the authors) constantly monitor the forum and are about as friendly and helpful as you could wish. If FSC isn't as friendly as you'd like tell them why so they can improve it.

  12. No idea why there seems to be a connection with FSNav but I had a similar experience once when my aircraft just wouldn't lift off. Turned out FS9 had got it's knickers in a twist and was cranking up the elevator trim for no reason I could fathom. Once I'd reset the trim to neutral I could take off fine. Think it was something to do with Autothrottle, possilby TOGA going a bit mad but if I were you I'd check a few things before you take off:

Is the runway long enough for the weight of fuel you're carrying?

If you're using TOGA (rather than just opening the throttles to max), is the runway long enough to reach Rotation speed?

Are the control surfaces responding to your joystick/rudder pedals?

Is the elevator trim set to neutral (or better still set for take off)?

Are you taking off into the wind? (Tail winds take offs are possible but take considerably longer to accelerate to Vr speed)

Have you ensured the autopilot is off before you start your roll?

    Are your flaps correctly set?

Are your spoilers down? (If you arm spoilers on the ground they immediatley deploy to max and destroy any chance of lift)

Like I said, most of these things are completely un-related to FSNavigator but I guess it's possible it's just a coincidence.

    Good luck!

  13. You can keep calculating the distance between you and another point to see if it's getting nearer. The following does it in kilometers but the units don't matter - if the number's shrinking you're flying towards it.

    Distance=6371*ACOS(COS(RADIANS(90-Lat1))*COS(RADIANS(90-Lat2))+SIN(RADIANS(90-Lat1))*SIN(RADIANS(90-Lat2))*COS(RADIANS(Long1-Long2)))

You can chop off the first word (Distance), drop this into Excel and change the Lat1/Lat2/Long1/Long2 to cell addresses to check it out.

Long and Lat should be decimal and positive for North/West , negative for South/East co-ordinates.

    Have fun!

  14. Hi Peter, thanks for the reply. That was what I needed - the 3110 offset. I wasn't aware of it - but I've only been dabbling with FSUIPC programming for a little while so I don't feel too guilty

I've tried a few different values from -13383 to -100 to 100 to 13383 but can't write to the Water Rudder offset at all. Also having similar troubles with the Fuel Valve offsets 3950/4/8/C so if anyone else has a bored moment perhaps they could have a go?

    Thanks again for the help!
