  1. Hi Cliff:

Thanks for your continued interest in- and kind offer of assistance with testing for- this project. :)

EFSTEP development has now expanded to yet another anticipated FS platform with the recent release of Lockheed-Martin's Prepar3D version 2.0 (aka "P3D-v2"), which involves significant modification of existing development methods for that version's DirectX-11 based SDK.

Pending further progress in development for simultaneous release of EFSTEP on all FS platforms for Beta testing, I shall have further news by forum posts (and via PMs) here at simFlight, as to what FS platforms (ex: FS2002, FS2004, FSX, P3D-v1.4, P3D-v2.x) may still call for testing of EFSTEP by EFFC enthusiasts such as yourself, having experience with existing versions of scenery package(s) for the Emma Field area.

In addition, some testers may be needed who have Prepar3D (both P3D-v1.4 & P3d-v2.x) installed in addition to MSFS 2002 / 2004 / FSX, with computer hardware sufficient to run all such FS versions compatibly.

More news later; in the mean time... Happy Flying  !

  2. Hi Jeff:

"EFSTEP" (aka "Emma Field Scenery and Terrain Enhancement Project") is indeed still being developed as a comprehensive, multi-platform package intended to work compatibly with a number of popular FS add-ons which overlap the KEWL scenery area. ;-)

More info will be available after this project has completed the Beta testing phase. :)

  3. Bill Dick: Departed... But Not Forgotten

A reknowned contributor to the MS Flight Simulator Community, Richard William (Bill) Dick aged 78, of North Saanich B.C. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on August 26 2013.

Bill was born in Melita Manitoba , graduated college in Winnipeg Manitoba, worked for many years in the auto body repair industry, and eventually established his own business, Bill's Motorcycle in Sidney B.C.

Known affectionately to some as "Willybee", Bill learned to fly GA "low and slow" prop aircraft at an early age on a small airfield near the US - Canadian border, and later in life, became  an avid MS Flight Simulator enthusiast.

Bill was as adept with repainting aircraft as he was with repainting automobiles and motorcycles, and was also known to create custom liveries and the occasional instrument panel for aircraft which he shared with his friends during multi-player flghts online in MS Flight Simulator.

Bill traveled extensively in Canada and the USA, but was particularly fond of the Pacific Northwest, where he made his home in the wooded coastal area a few miles Northwest of Victoria International Airport in British Colombia, Canada.

During Bill's many travels in his early life, then with his beloved wife Martha, and soon after as a family with their several children, he acquired a great appreciation for the scenery in different places he had visited.

Bill's appreciation for- and recollection of- the unique features and ambiance that different environments have, was an asset which he generously shared with the FS Community when he began creating freeware add-on scenery for MS Flight Simulator.

Bill became legendary for his amazing speed, and innovative use of default and custom scenery objects when creating numerous sceneries of airfields and seaplane bases for GA flying, and was particularly noted for his work in the Pacific Northwest (aka "PNW") which provided an immersive, rustic 'look and feel' for virtual "Bush" pilots to enjoy in multiple versions of MS Flight Simulator.

Bill was revered for having created custom scenery for the many airfield waypoints visited during cross-country flights which he shared with his many friends during multi-player flghts online in MS Flight Simulator.

Bill's most recent custom scenery for cross-country airfield waypoints was for a multi-player "Emma Field to Plum Island Flight" conducted in stages over several sequential weekends a few years ago, and coordinated his efforts with those of Ed Wells (aka "falcon409") who also created a number of waypoint airfields for the scenery used during that flight.

Bill contributed numerous scenery packages (sometimes as part of a development 'team') for the Misty Fiords and Tongass Fiords area of the PNW in MS FS2004 (aka "FS9"), which are available via the "Misty Moorings" web site at:

    http://www.mistymoorings.com/office/index.php

One such scenery add-on package created by Bill and several other noted FS developers (aka "The Amigos"), became very popular with PNW "bush flyers" for its innovative and immersive setting in the challenging and rugged areas of glaciers in southwest Alaska.

Stikene Icefield Research Project (aka "S.I.R.P.") is also available via the "Misty Moorings" web site at:
    http://www.mistymoorings.com/tongass/

Information helpful for new and existing users of the "S.I.R.P." scenery package is available at:
    http://edtruthan.com/sirp/sirpmanual.htm
    http://www.edtruthan.com/sirpfixes/

Other add-on scenery packages for multiple versions of MS Flight Simulator contributed by Bill Dick are available at AVSIM:

    http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=bill+dick&Sort=Added&ScanMode=1&Go=Change+View

Bill also appreciated the work of other MS Flight Simulator developers, and was involved in beta-testing of various add-on products.

Bill had an especially great appreciation for the LAGO Emma Field add-on scenery package that became a best-seller for its innovative features, storyline, and appeal to PNW bush flyers in the early days of FS2002 and FS2004.

Emma Field (aka "KEWL") eventually spawned a FS forum community for the thousands who acquired that scenery package, and inspired a legendary legacy of adventure, mischief, and creative add-on contributions which, IMHO, was- and will continue to be- an asset to the FS Community.

Bill enjoyed an active participation in the MS Flight Simulator online forum community, and his many forum posts on a mix of topics with helpful insights (some featuring his penchant for 'down-to-earth' humor) are still to be found at various FS web sites.

Many of Bill's simFlight forums posts (including those in the Emma Field Flying Club forum aka "EFFC") are found at:

    http://forum.simflight.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&section=search&do=search&fromsearch=1

Bill (often with Phil Cayton aka "Snowman") made a number of custom add-on scenery packages for Lago's Emma Field FS2002 and FS2004 in the immediate and extended aerodrome area.

Some of the features of those add-on scenery packages reflected Bill's lively sense of humor as he mischievously 'flew in the face' of fictional NOTAMS issued by the founding fathers of Emma Field, by expanding the "KEWL" experience through release of add-ons that provided night lights, runways for large aircraft, and hangars in violation of the long-term design concept envisioned for the future of the aerodrome.

Several of Bill's original freeware add-on scenery packages for  Emma Field which were no longer available for download (due to a FS web site  going off-line) may again be made freely available for download to interested individuals in the near future via a public secure web server.

These "classic" freeware add-on scenery packages for Emma Field by Bill Dick et al may include (as a minimum): ;-)

'Night' Lights for KEWL RWYs and Taxiways
Private Hangars East of the KEWL grass RWY
East-West RWY and 'Private' Aerodrome extension East of the KEWL grass RWY
The 'infamous' utility corridor Jet-compatible RWY Northwest of KEWL RWY 36/18

Bill also teamed up with Phil Cayton and Chris Brisland (aka "Eagleskinner" aka "CBris") to produce the FSX-compatible add-on scenery package "Bushflight Northwest", featuring  land class texture and other airport enhancements for the Olympic Peninsula and which preceded release of the (incompatible) OrbX FTX NA Blue "PNW" demo and full region payware add-on scenery package.

Bill's personable style of communication, his humor, his attention to detail, and his many generous freeware contributions to the MS Flight Simulator Community will always be remembered and appreciated by those who had the good fortune of making his acquaintance. :)

I believe many of us here may prefer to think of Bill as still with us in Spirit, ...flying the friendly skies above.

An E-Mail message sent by his wife of 56 years, Martha, to those who knew Bill more closely, said:
"In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Victoria Hospice."

    http://www.victoriahospice.org/

With sincere condolences to Bill's family and friends,

    GaryGB

  4. Hi Rob:

I must confess that the release of my "Beta" alternative terrain flatten file was repeatedly delayed and not (yet) released ...due to a series of intercurrent real life exigencies and updated priorities for time commitments with my own projects since last years (2012) posting on this scenario with Ed's 2nd version of his "KEWL" add-on scenery.

That said, I do have a candidate for a 'reasonable compromise' between what Ed's landscape and textures might seek to display, and what my own "EFSTEP" project seeks to display ...while achiving a properly functional terrain flatten at KEWL when Ed's 2nd version of his "KEWL" add-on scenery is installed, active, and positioned at/near the top of of the FSX Scenery Library GUI stack of layers.

I will announce the availability of my alternative terrain flatten BGL file after completion of the Beta testing process in the near future.

So, it shouldn't be too long until you have a chance to 'Cop' a "look and feel" ...of Ed's KEWL airfield add-on with "a new shape after having had some work done on her" !

Hope this info helps clarify the status of this pending contribution to the Emma Field Community.

BTW: I was traveling, thus away from EFFC Forum a while, and was delayed in responding to your earlier post here:

    http://forum.simflight.com/topic/68188-maybe-beating-a-dead-horse/#entry427000

PS: There are some great things still in active development ...to bring even more fun to the Emma Field area in FSX ! ;-)

  5. N E W S F L A SH ! ! !

It is now rumored that the "corpse" of a person found on or about the KEWL aerodrome grounds was not actually 'dead' (...supposedly, the corpse was Fritz, who reportedly had been "killed" by 'conniving' assailants).

    http://forum.simflig...for-emma-field/

Furthermore, his body was purportedly stolen from the Mason County, WA medical examiners receiving dock by a notorious rural Washington state militia group who may also may have "filched" Spotlope's filbert / hazelnut harvest from the farm at Bear Gulch.

    http://forum.simflig...ching-filberts/

That mysterious militia is alleged to have been the same one which "liberated" the famed EFFC "Cheese and Old #5" tanker truck from the clutches of the U.S. Air Force near Boston, after crossing the country in an attempt to "share the love" with Emma-ites enjoying Spotlope's scenery at Plum Island. ;-)

    http://forum.simflig...eenwood__st__60

The "corpse" has reportedly been hovering between Heaven and Hell while 'recovering' in a secret underground bunker beneath the Emma Field Infirmary.

Some unscrupulous person posted a "candid camera" photo of him and the 'visitors' to his room within the intensive KEWL unit:

    2012-07-17(117112)_Game-of-life_2.jpg

    http://www.3dtotal.c...ed2.php?id=5162

Just what is "in the cards" (in addition to the 'ladies') ...for this poor Emma-ite ?

Will the "corpse" survive and regain consciousness, so he can tell us who it was that "done him in" ? :?:

Stay tuned to Emma Field Flying Club Forum for more details as they become available !

  6. Hi Cliff:

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread.

This post should have some info to help get started with online multi-player (aka "M-P") setup:

    http://forum.simflig...ue/#entry440771

Since Bob Holland's M-P server again appears to be off-line, it seems the more consistently reliable TeamSpeak3 (aka "TS3") and FSHostClient servers at DigitalThemePark.com may be a more practical consideration in the immediate future, for meeting up with folks from Emma Field and many other diverse points of origin ...to chat and/or do some multi-player flying.

Emma Field alumni Dobie and Scottie are often online in TS3 at DigitalThemePark.com "Northwest Flying Club" channel in the early afternoon, and when I get a chance, I try to meet up with them as well.

So we'd welcome seeing you and others from both Emma Field and other places in the FS world show up in TS3 for a bit of camaraderie and FS fun.

Hope to see you online soon !

    GaryGB

  7. Hi Joel:

Good to see you around here again !

    Hello...

Wow, good to see some activity at Emma. Is there a concise FSX update link/download somewhere?

    (cheers Gary)

Please see updated download info for Ed's "Emma_KEWL.zip" (2012 version) scenery package in my post to this thread ...at:

    http://forum.simflig..._40#entry447258

FYI: I'm still working on a set of alternate files (to be used with, and released separately from) Ed's "Emma_KEWL" FSX freeware add-on scenery as discussed above in this thread.

Also, I'm testing those alternate files to ensure full compatibility with known add-ons for the Emma Field area including the base OrbX FTX PNW and Cushman Meadows (KCMW / Bear Gulch) packages.

What started out as an intended quick fix has now expanded into a somewhat larger undertaking, after investigating the interaction of Ed's "Emma_KEWL" ...and other overlapping FSX scenery add-ons.

I hope to get something out to beta test on that project by the end of next week (as I scramble to attend to numerous last minute real life matters requiring attention before the end of the year. )

I believe you can be assured that development continues on separate enhancements of existing versions of FS2002 / FS2004 Emma Field scenery, and that a FSX-compatible version of scenery for Emma Field area is in the works as well ! ;)

BTW: If you check some of the more recent (sequentially ...if not by date) threads here, you may find that there are still multi-player flying activities by Emma-ites and other folks who enjoy the occasional very casual flight style such as we had here a number of times; we'd be glad to see you online for some flying again.

More recently we have had the opportunity to use the consistently reliable FSHostClient servers and TeamSpeak3 servers over at DigitalThemePark for our multi-player FS get-togethers in the KEWL, PNW, and occasionally other areas; all courteous FS pilots are encouraged to join in the fun.

Hope to see you in the friendly skies again soon !

  8. Hi Filip:

My available time has been rather limited this week, and I am again traveling out of state to attend to family matters, so I must defer ongoing work with this "un-KEWL terrain fix" project until next week at the earliest.

I shall endeavor to ensure a fix can be implemented without risk for inconsistent results on end-users' varying scenery configurations in the future, and to allow all known locally overlapping 3rd party sceneries by other authors to display properly and concurrently with Ed's "Emma_KEWL" package (...wherever possible). ;-)

Thanks again for your kind offer to test this on your system when a "release candidate" is ready; I'll be in touch soon. :)

    GaryGB

  9. Hi Filip:

In order to ensure that the airfield area flatten in Ed's Emma_KEWL scenery package will be able to consistently display properly regardless of interactions with the mix of scenery layers from other FS add-ons installed in one's FS scenery library, some additional inquiry and testing will be required.

Due to the time limitations necessary to prepare for the impending USA "Thanksgiving" holiday, and related commitments I have made to travel out of state, I will not be able to release a "Ed Wells' Emma_KEWL" alternate flatten file for you to test until some time next week.

As stated above, I will notify you here in this thread when it is ready to download. ;-)

In the mean time, Happy Flying !

    GaryGB

  10. Hi Filip:

I appreciate your reply, as it will help to clarify factors which may (...or may not !) be affecting display of Ed's FSX cvx_Emma_flatten.BGL. ;-)

I will be checking a few additional factors which may be involved in display issues with that file; I anticipate having a revised airport flatten file posted for you to test prior to mid-week, and will notify you here in this thread when it is ready to download.

Thanks again for following up with this ! :)

    GaryGB

  11. Hi Filip:

I have an alternate airport flatten BGL file for KCMW which I am prepared to post for you, however, I wanted to inquire about 1 other factor which may have played a role in the terrain anomaly you reported.

Another Emma-ite who recently loaded Ed's EMMA_KEWL on top of Ultimate Terrain X (aka "UTX") and on top of KCMW ...also had the same terrain anomaly (Ed's EMMA_KEWL aprons, taxiways and RWYs sunken into the surrounding ground).

I also was able to replicate that terrain anomaly by activating and de-activating Ed's EMMA_KEWL and moving it above and below KCMW. ;-)

I was initially able to resolve the terrain anomaly on my own FSX installation at Ed's EMMA_KEWL by re-initializing UTX and making sure that immediately afterwards, I put Ed's EMMA_KEWL back at the top of the FSX Scenery library stack of layers.

    [EDITED]

I have a few additional things which I also plan to check out before submitting the "alternate airport flatten BGL file" for testing, but in the mean time, could you please test this procedure on your FSX installation (...if you have UTX installed), and post your results here ?

1.) With FSX NOT running, navigate to:

[FSX install path]\Flight One Software\UTUsaFsx\ and run "UtSetup.exe"

2.) In "UtSetup.exe" navigate to UtSetup.exe Menu > Ultimate Terrain > "Quick Ultimate Terrain Enable/Disable"

3.) In "Change Ultimate Terrain Status" dialog, "Disable" Ultimate Terrain

4.) Exit "Change Ultimate Terrain Status" dialog boxes

    5.) Again in "UtSetup.exe" > Menu > Ultimate Terrain > Quick Ultimate Terrain Enable/Disable

6.) In "Change Ultimate Terrain Status" dialog, "Enable" Ultimate Terrain

7.) Exit "Change Ultimate Terrain Status" dialog boxes, and exit "UtSetup.exe"

8.) Run FSX, and navigate to FSX Menu > Settings > Scenery Library

9.) In "Scenery Library", verify that Ed's EMMA_KEWL is on top of the stack of layers at "Priority 1"

    10.) Again in "Scenery Library", verify that OrbX's FTX scenery block of area layers (Area names such as "FTX_* *_* * * * *_* * * * * * * " etc.) are above those for Ultimate Terrain X (Area names such as "UT_* *_* * * * *_* * * * * * * ")

    [END_EDIT]

    Thanks ! :)

    GaryGB

  12. Hi Filip:

Sorry for the delay in replying, to this thread; I have been on the road for a while.

Nice detective work finding another 'suspect' file in the KCMW folder ...by process of elimination.

I am making an alternate airport flatten BGL file for that area which I would like you to test; I'll post it to you via a private message here at simFlight Forums when I get it finished in another day or so.

Depending on what results you have using the alternate flatten file, we may or may not need to check any other files for both a solution and an explanation as to how that apparent terrain anomaly occurred on your FS installation.

If you would be so kind as to plan a test of the alternate flatten file after I post it for you, I'd really appreciate receiving a reply from you regarding your results.

That would be very helpful to the process of keeping a record of any such terrain anomalies which may occur in association with all known add-on packages for FS2002, FS2004, and FSX which overlap the KEWL area ...for purposes of troubleshooting with fellow Emma-ites, and for present and future development projects. ;-)

Thanks again for following up here !

    GaryGB

  13. Hi Filip:

Thanks for the compliment !

I try to help others when I am able to, but there is always much more to learn about FS and making scenery packages get along well.

Could you please try something for me with your [FSX install path]\ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_AA_KCMW\Scenery\4_mesh_FTX-PNW_LOD4-14_LakeCushman_6ft-LIDAR.bgl file:

1.) Back up that 4_mesh_FTX-PNW_LOD4-14_LakeCushman_6ft-LIDAR.bgl file into a ZIP file

2.) Delete the original from [FSX install path]\ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_AA_KCMW\Scenery\

3.) Set the "FTX_AA_KCMW" Area layer "active" along with 'Ed's Emma_KEWL' "active" above it as shown above ...in the FSX scenery library

4.) Test in FSX at run time, then please post back here as to whether it allows 'Ed's Emma_KEWL' to display properly. ;-)

NOTE: When the above terrain mesh file for "FTX_AA_KCMW" is un-ZIP-ed, all attributes will be identical to the original

Also, do you have other 3rd party FS9 / FSX terrain meshes installed (ex: FSGenesis, FSGlobal, MegaScenery PNW, Taburet 'Freeware Mesh' etc.) ? :?:

Thanks for your ongoing feedback with this curious scenario. :)

    GaryGB

  14. Hello:

Hi Chris: Thanks for the kind words !

    Hi Filip:

I am curious as to what might be allowing the terrain mesh from OrbX FTX Cushman Meadows (KCMW) by Bill Womack (aka "Spotlope") to 'pop through' alongside the airport Taxiways and RWYs in Ed's scenery package. :?:

If Ed's scenery package is located in a scenery area layer placed above that of FTX Cushman Meadows in the FSX Scenery Library stack of layers, this should flatten Ed's airport area as you show in your screenie above at:

    http://forum.simflig..._40#entry448120

Or, worded differently, the "4_mesh_FTX-PNW_LOD4-14_LakeCushman_6ft-LIDAR.bgl" in [FSX install path]\ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_AA_KCMW\Scenery\ must be below that of Ed's "cvx_Emma_flatten.BGL" in the FSX Scenery Library.

A "recommended" example installation for Ed's scenery which allows proper "control" of display priority would be:

If by any chance the above scenario is how you have installed Ed's scenery files into FSX, I'd recommend that you:

1.) Create the above "recommended" folder structure for Ed's scenery within ex: [FSX install path]\Addon Scenery

2.) Move Ed's files into the folders created / shown above in that "recommended" example installation

3.) Add that new Area for Ed's scenery as a layer above all OrbX scenery Areas in FSX Scenery Library as I described here:

    http://forum.simflig..._40#entry448142

That example folder structure and scenery library area layering 'should' allow proper control of the (2) above add-ons around KEWL in FSX.

If, however you do already have the files from Ed's package "properly" installed as described above, there may be some other problem with your FSX configuration.

In that case, please let me know if you would like to troubleshoot the issue further, so that you don't have to keep manually disabling / enabling Spotlope's fun KCMW scenery when flying around the KEWL area.

PS: One can display OrbX FTX PNW custom autogen for the area in and around Ed's KEWL by keeping this folder chain "active" in FSX: ;-)

    [FSX install path]\ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_NA_PNW08_CUSTOM\

    Hope this helps !

Ok, so, more likely one might just have invoked a "smack" on the 'cheek' then ?

Just a mischievous pic of the festivities at Emma Field last night !

( Hmmm... party lights that change with the holiday events... very "KEWL" ). ;-)

  17. Hi Filip:

Thanks for sharing the screenies from your FSX new adventures around KEWL with Ed's scenery !

To fix the flatten layering issue shown above, simply move Ed's scenery layer in FSX scenery library GUI to the very "top" of the entire stack of area layers.

Otherwise, just move Ed's scenery layer (ex: named " Emma_Kewl_by_Ed_Wells " in FSX scenery library GUI position anywhere above OrbX's FTX scenery block of area layers

    FYI: The OrbX's FTX scenery block of area layers will all have names such as " FTX_* *_* * * * *_* * * * * * * " etc.

    [EDITED]

PS: If you have a few autogen trees popping up on the runway, taxiway, or perimeter roadway of Ed's KEWL aerodrome, please post a screenshot here, and we'll see if we can get that fixed for you ASAP.

    [END_EDIT]

Hope this helps... Happy Flying !

  18. Hi Filip:

FSX still uses the same "Top Folder with a nested \Scenery and \Texture sub-folder" requirement as earlier versions of FS when reading scenery library objects.

Thus, one can in theory put all add-on package BGLs into the \Scenery folder, and the textures (ex: *.BMP, *.DDS file extensions) mapped / required by those BGLs ...into the locally paired \Texture folder.

But, it is probably best for controlling / troubleshooting display of FS scenery content, however, to keep Ed's scenery package separate from each of the above add-on scenery object libraries.

And it would IMHO be a good idea to to keep each of the above add-on scenery object libraries separate from each other as well. ;-)

So one might wish to use a folder structure such as the following:

    FSX\Addon Scenery\Ed Wells Emma Field (also contains both a \Scenery and \Texture sub-folder)

    FSX\Addon Scenery\ez-terminals (also contains both a \Scenery and \Texture sub-folder)

    FSX\Addon Scenery\lens_ez_scenery (also contains both a \Scenery and \Texture sub-folder)

    FSX\Addon Scenery\small_airstrip_objects_ss_v1+ (also contains both a \Scenery and \Texture sub-folder)

Each add-on scenery package \Scenery folder must then be individually added as a new "Area" layer in the FSX scenery library GUI

Hope this info helps get you up and flying the friendly skies around Emma Field ASAP !

  19. Hi Chris:

Thanks for the update... I'll look forward to seeing how your further tests may be able to enhance FSX performance on your notebook computer !

PS: Although it is always prudent to avoid "excessive" heat buildup with a non-desktop computer system when performing most types of over-clocking, setting the clock frequency of your Front Side Bus (aka "FSB") and your PC-3200 RAM to a "slightly" higher rate in MHz (which will also increase the effective AGP throughput) may not always produce enough heat that it actually takes the CPU and AGP / GPU subsystem beyond the manufacturer's specified "safe" operating temperature range; thus, IMHO, it is always worth testing briefly to see what tolerance your chipset has, and to see what chipset temperatures result.

If the "Mobility Modder" successfully made your GPU fully "capable of using the Catalyst Control Center and all its features and parameters", then the "VPU Recover" function of the ATI / AMD Catalyst driver may provide sufficient protection of your GPU during testing of FSB / RAM / AGP overclocking.

NOTE: If one is able to substantially improve FSB data throughput for better FSX rendering performance by use of a slightly higher clock speed with the existing CAS RAM latency interval, one may then actually be able to increase performance by lengthening the CAS RAM latency interval to optimize data packet throughput at the higher clock rate.

In some cases, however, the existing factory setting for RAM CAS latency interval on a computer already may be set so "un-necessarily" long, that setting it to a shorter interval in combination with the increased clock speed for the system RAM, may still yield some additional boost in performance (rather than lengthening that RAM CAS latency interval just because the FSB / RAM clock speed was raised slightly).

Such a factory setting of an inordinately longer CAS latency and longer PCI latency is sometimes seen when integrated CPU-dependent "modems without their own controller chipsets" (such as the AC-97 modem riser types) are included with some motherboards.

If one no longer uses the integrated modem, it can (should !) be disabled in the computer's BIOS, and if Windows Plug-N-Play still shows an entry for it in the Device Manager, it can (should !) be "disabled" there. Once that is done, one can often use shorter RAM CAS and PCI latency intervals because no other "integrated" chipset sub-systems have an inordinate dependency on longer latencies in order to work; one may then be able to successfully do some over-clocking with the ex: RAM / GPU / AGP system components that one wishes to optimize.

Done carefully, this may only produce an "insignificant" increase of heat in the CPU and GPU chipset area of the motherboard which can actually be safely sustained over one's average FS flight session duration because the overall temperature of the chips are still within the manufacturer's safe operating range.

Alternatively, of course, if one prefers to not change the effective CPU / AGP bus frequency via FSB overclocking, one can limit one's testing to the previously cited GPU Engine / VRAM overclocking via a "Performance Profile" with PowerStrip.

    Hope this helps ! :)
