midge Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Peter, I have selected the option keep fs clock sync to real time. It seems to not work because the local time of a location is always two hours ahead of real time. Why is that? Dave
rickalty Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Silly question, I'm sure, but are you perhaps flying out of an airport in a time zone two hours off from your computers clock time's time zone? Richard
Pete Dowson Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 I have selected the option keep fs clock sync to real time. It seems to not work because the local time of a location is always two hours ahead of real time. Why is that? The FSUIPC facility only adjusts the seconds to keep the SAME difference between FS time and the system time all the way through the session (well, until you load a flight with a new time, or change the time yourself). Please just re-read the User Guide on this option: This facility, kindly donated by José Oliveira, compensates for the odd phenomenon of FS2002 losing time. It just synchronises the seconds values with that of your PC’s system clock. Provided you always keep to the normal 1x simulation speed this should stop FS time running slower and slower compared to real time (or, rather, PC time, which may not be quite the same as real time either). If you want the FS time to be equal to the system time, I think that's an FS flight-loading option, although mainly I find I have to go into the Time menu and set it. Regards, Pete
rwooton Posted March 7, 2004 Report Posted March 7, 2004 Hi Pete. First let me say thanks for all the great work you've done! I was really distressed after I bought FS2004 to see that MS didn't fix the problem with clock when passing time zones. It's irritating to have to run another software (FS Real Time) every time I run the sim just to keep the clock right. (and it really doesn't work 100% of the time with FS9 either). I was hoping that your "clock sync" also addressed that, but I realize it doesn't. Do you have any plans for future releases that might be able to correct the problem without having to use another software? It's obviously too much for MS to figure out. Thanks Rick Wooton
midge Posted March 8, 2004 Author Report Posted March 8, 2004 Rick Thanks for elaborating on my problem. I concur about what rick wants out of time syn. Thanks Dave
rickalty Posted March 8, 2004 Report Posted March 8, 2004 I would point out that in the real world, if you fly from one time zone to another, you have to reach out and manually adjust the local cockpit time. (GPS etc, of course, is generally kept on GMT) Richard
Pete Dowson Posted March 12, 2004 Report Posted March 12, 2004 Sorry for the delay in replying -- I've been on holiday with no Internet access. I'm just trying to catch up with an enormous backlog now! I was really distressed after I bought FS2004 to see that MS didn't fix the problem with clock when passing time zones. It's irritating to have to run another software (FS Real Time) every time I run the sim just to keep the clock right. (and it really doesn't work 100% of the time with FS9 either). Do you have any plans for future releases that might be able to correct the problem without having to use another software? It's obviously too much for MS to figure out. Sorry, I can't figure it out either. I thought it wasn't so much "FSRealTime" that fixed it, but replacement BGL files (which are packaged with FSRealTime, but aren't by the same author). Since installing those I've not noticed any time zone problems, but maybe that's because I tend to favour quite short trips. Regards, Pete
jcboliveira Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 The problem is still there. The time zone problem also leads to the UTC jump bug and that is what, I think, FS Real Time tries to solve. Pete: Hope you had nice vacations. In the FS9 the bgl don't work and noticed some side effect like loosing the ability to crash airplanes in the ground in some zones. :) Regards José
Pete Dowson Posted March 16, 2004 Report Posted March 16, 2004 In the FS9 the bgl don't work and noticed some side effect like loosing the ability to crash airplanes in the ground in some zones. :) Oh, right. Seems I don't cross enough time zones in my flying to notice any of these things, and I do try not to crash into the ground! Regards, Pete
