changing airfile in run time

Recommended Posts

Do you know any way of changing the airfile (or some parameters) in run time. The only solution that I can think of is rename the aircraft.cfg and reload airplane but that it isn't a clean solution.

Sorry, as far as I know most of the AIR file parameters don't exist in the same form in FS's memory after loading. Also, many of them these days are overridden by the parameters in the Aircraft.CFG file. There are some, like the gross weight and the loading values that you should be able to alter via FSUIPC, but I wouldn't swear to it.

Changing the AIR and CFG files and relading the aircraft may work, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stuff is cached anyway. Certainly, in Fs2004, changing scenery and calling the "reload scenery" control doesn't usually get the change drawn as far as I have found. Maybe the aircraft side is a bit different.

Pete

Yes there is typo but fly doesn't rime with inovate and the Portuguese word for fly is "voar" so I tranform it in voate :)

That what I thought, well lot of airfile related problems could be solved with that. I can imagine different airfiles for each flight situation: Climb, cruise, autopilot on etc.

Yes, I know. It has been suggested before, as long ago as FS2000, but as far as I know even the real air file experts of the time -- Ian Donohoe for one (he found many more aircraft related innards in FS than I ever did) -- have never found a way of changing basic characteristics "on the fly". I think FS's sim engine does so much with so many of the values, deriving other values, setting up tables, and so on, that it really does need a reload and a re-calc.

Pete
