Engine Surging

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is an FSUICP issue at all. Am running FS9 with a CH yoke and a CH TQ6 throttle unit. I purchased and installed a DC-10 aircraft and the problem is this: when the autothrottle is engaged the engines surge, from 54.0% N1 to 55.9% N1. Occurs at all weights and fuel loads. Does seem a bit worse at lower altitudes. Happens with or without real-world weather loaded. Have done searches on the devs site, the internet and also posted on the aircraft support forum all to no avail. I have my throttle set thru the FSUICP (which is the latest version). As stated above, don't know if this is even an issue for this forum, but I have run out of ideas as to what could be causing this. Do not see this with anything else. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Sorry, it evidently has to be something to do with the add-on aircraft. Since you did actually purchase it from someplace I think you ought to seek help from the suppliers/makers. Though I must say, a 1.9% increase doesn't sound like much of a "surge" to me -- more like a blip? And maybe the default idle under autothrottle control is higher than 54%? What do the specs for the aircraft say?

Hello Pete,

I quess I am coming to you as sort of a last resort, as I do not know where else to look for any help. The engine/autothrottle issue mentioned above has become an issue that affects many of my addon aircraft. I thought it was an issue of the above mentioned plane but it is a wider reaching problem. I have posted in many different forums and usually get no reply. The few scant replies I have received have suggested a weather issue. Pressure and wind changes are thought to cause the engines to run up and down. Average range is 1.18-1.34 EPR. The range on some aircraft is not quite as wide. Tried to adjust those items (pressure, wind) in FSUIPC with no change. Removed my weather generating software, no change. Cleared all weather in flight sim and thru FSUIPC still no change. At this point I am at a complete loss as to what to do to correct this issue. It has really zapped my "fun" factor while simming. Hope you might have some insight.

Regards,

Joe

But none of the default aircraft? If so, then you really do have to get th add-on makers to help.

Sudden wind changes, especially reversals, yes, but they would affect all aircraft, defaults included, which seems not to be the case. If it were, just enabling Wind Smoothing in FSUIPC should fix it. FS9 is known for wind reversals, but these are occasional not all the time, and related to the numbers of weather stations in the locality, so are not universal all over the globe.

Well, this is unique to yourself, so it is very difficult to understand. I can only suggest you stick to the default aircraft, or purchase good quality add-on aircraft.

Regards

Pete
