brucek
Hi Pete, I couldn't see this issue referenced in the forum. I am using Profiles, for the first time, they're cool! I am running FSUIPC v4.60a, registered. My thoughts were to create an FSX generic profile for single props, dual props, twin jets. Then make specific profiles for variations of -say- twin jets, for the likes of Level D's B763, which has the opportunity to do more with custom key assignments (more than the generic FSX stuff). I created so far my generic single prop and dual jet, and am now trying to assign a new profile to the Level D B763 twin jet for the "Axis Assignment" tab. However, the checkbox for "Profile Specific?" is already checked and grayed out. The axis assignments appear to be the same as I set for the generic jet twin. (However, I am able to access the same checkbox on the "Buttons + Switches" tab.) Is FSUIPC seeing somehow that the Level D B763 is a "twin jet", and so just grabbing the predefined assignment for "twin jet"? With no ability to cancel out of it and then create a customized dual jet one? I hope I'm making sense here. If not, let me try again. :) Thanks, Bruce. Edit: I just tried the PMDG MD11, and am still getting the same issue above, where the FSUIPC Axis Assignment "Profile Specific" checkbox is checked and grayed out. Once again, the axis appears to be the twin jet one (just going by the mapping between my joystick (2) levers and the functions they are controlling. Is there perhaps a larger class of "jet" (regardless of engines) at play here perhaps? I will need to find a way to re-assign my joystick levers for the Tri-jet. Obviously, going back to a string of aircraft specific settings will work too. Thanks, Bruce.
Pete Dowson
Is FSUIPC seeing somehow that the Level D B763 is a "twin jet", and so just grabbing the predefined assignment for "twin jet"? With no ability to cancel out of it and then create a customized dual jet one? I'd need to see your INI file. It may be that you have short aircraft names matching some already assigned to profiles for the [Axes....] sections. Please just paste your INI file here and I'll see what is going on. Is there perhaps a larger class of "jet" (regardless of engines) at play here perhaps? No, FSUIPC doesn't try anything clever. It is all user-controlled, by names and assignments. The INI file will show. Regards Pete
Jim Supersym
Hello ! I've the same problem ! I've only created 2 profiles : "pmdg747" and "cessna152" with the yoke saitek. I tried to create a profile with the FA18 of VRS, with a noname joystick but the checkbox remain grayed out. But I want to assign the throttle axis to my joystick with a specific profile to fa18. I've assign the axis with my yoke Saitek without speficic profile, and again in the cessna's profile. But with the fa18 i want to use the other joystick. I apologyse for my bad english ;) Edited January 13, 2013 by Jim Supersym
Pete Dowson
Apologies for the delay in replying. As announced, I have been away on holidays. I've the same problem ! And the answer is the same. I'd need to see the LOG and INI files. I cannot help without actual information. Pete

Pete Dowson
here is the ini file : And the log with the problem aircraft being loded? UpdatedByVersion=4827 Version 4.827 is well out of date now and unsupported. A lot of changes have occurred to improve the Profile system. Please update. The earliest supported is 4.853, and there's an 4.859m available in Download Links subforum. Looking at the INI file you seem to have two similarly named but different 747 profile names set up: [Profile.74710] 1=PMDG 747-8i Air France and [Profile.747 10] 1=747 10 with axes assigned, no buttons, in the latter: [Axes.747 10] and buttons assigned, no axes, in the former: [buttons.74710] Regards Pete
Jim Supersym
I will post later the log file. I did'nt read that the log file was necessary. I will update with the last version. I've changed manually in the ini file the name of the profile because I thought that "74710" was better than "47 410", and I' ve forgotten the axes line ! I will send the log file this evening (for France). Regards Jim Edited January 14, 2013 by Jim Supersym

Pete Dowson
It's the same thing with the last update : No, in this version the Aircraft name is being seen: 16224 Aircraft="Flight Test Aircraft E1" so it should now easily be possible to assign it to a new profile if you wish. Jim Supersym
I wanted to say the same thing with the checkbox : always grayed out. Since the first log file I've changed the livery of the aircraft. So it's why the name has changed. But what can I do ? Thank's
Pete Dowson
Since the first log file I've changed the livery of the aircraft. So it's why the name has changed. But what can I do ? Either assign the aircraft to the same profile, or, more flexibly, change the [General] parameter ShortAircraftNameOk=No to ShortAircraftNameOk=Substring and edit the name listed after 1= in your [Profile....] section to a short subset of the name which applies to all liveries. Jim Supersym
I can't : I can't create a new profile for my fa18 for instance. Because off the grayed out of the checkbox. And the name of the aircraft (fa18) has been automaticilly created in the cessna profile.
Andydigital
Try deleting the line highlighted below from your FSUIPC4.ini, is this perhaps the FA18? If it is then it means that YOU have assigned the FA18 to the Cessna profile that you made. With that line removed you should now be able to make a new profile for that aircraft. Pete Dowson
unfortunately the checkbox remain grayed out  I'm afraid I don't know how that can be. Could you re-post the INI file, as it is now, AND the Log file corresponding to this attempt. If I still cannot see how it can occur I will have to add some diagnostic logging code to get more information. Pete

Andydigital
Was FSX closed down when you edited it to remove the line I spoke of before, as the log clearly says 16224 Aircraft="Flight Test Aircraft E1", did you also save the file after editing it? Andydigital
It's also strange that there are 60 records in the Autosave section when you have 10 specified as the number to retain.
Pete Dowson
Thanks a lot for the time you have spent with me ! Here are the latest files together dated of yesteday evening 8 h 39 pm But you've changed nothing? Which FSUIPC tab are you trying to assign a profile? According to the Log you only loaded the aircraft called "Flight Test Aircraft E1": 16224 Aircraft="Flight Test Aircraft E1" and this is already assigned to the "cessna152" profile, here: [Profile.cessna152] 1=C152II LIGHTBLUE G.F. 2=Flight Test Aircraft E1 3=C152II Calypso G.F. Therefore the checkbox for profiles SHOULD be ticked and grayed out for Axis assignments, though not for Buttons or Keys, because with those you can have both general and specific asssignments. You say you cannot assign the aircraft to a Profile, but that is precisely because it is already assigned, as pointed out already. I think you need to explain in more detail what it is you are concerned about, please, because it is certainly appearing as if you are misunderstanding things. If you want to assign this aircraft to a different Profile now you'll need to delete the line assigning it to an existing Profile, as andy suggested. Pete Dowson
It's also strange that there are 60 records in the Autosave section when you have 10 specified as the number to retain. I suspect that he did have 60 set once, and when changing it to 10 did not delete the excess. FSUIPC doesn't remember how many there were. You'll note theose after the 10 have a discontinuous timestamp. Regards Pete
Andydigital
Ahh understood, I've only ever saved a maximum of 10 so had never noticed this in the past.
Pete Dowson
I can't : I can't create a new profile for my fa18 for instance. Because off the grayed out of the checkbox. And the name of the aircraft (fa18) has been automaticilly created in the cessna profile. I only just read this entry. There is no way a new aircraft (one with a different name) can ever be "automatically" added to a profile. It can only be done by user selection. Apart from the profile assigned, if any, to the current aircraft, none of the profile names are even known to FSUIPC until you use the selection facility in the options. I think I have to emphasise what has now been said at least twice. delete the line assigning the aircraft to the cessna profile. I'm afraid FSUIPC does not currently offer an option to do this via the Options tabs -- I thought it an infrequent need and resources better spent elsewhere. Regards, Pete
Jim Supersym
So I will delete the general axis assignment .
