Hjerterknekt Posted September 3, 2013 Report Share Posted September 3, 2013 I use Simlauncher witch depend on MakeRunways to show corect airports and parking.It looks like MakeRunways register default airports over Addon Airports from the cfg.file.As one example I can take 65S Bonners Ferry as I have from ORBX.In the Sim (P3D) when applying for this airport there are coming up the following option: Active RW 1-(Helipad) 2 20 W-(Helipad) Parking 1-Ramp GA Parking 2-Ramp GA,small Parking 3-Ramp GA,small Parking 4-Ramp GA,small Parking 5-Ramp GA,small When you launch this airport from Simlauncher this alternative is coming up Parking 1-Ramp GA,small Parking 2-Ramp GA,small Parking 3-Ramp GA,small Parking 4-Ramp GA,medium Parking 5-Fuel Box I believe that what show up in Simlauncher is the default airport,but I have disablet it in UTX. Why is it not reading the addon airport? It is in the CFG.file.(Programdata/Lockhed Martin/P3D)This is happening with several other airport to so when launching the sim with Simlauncher you are parked a different place than supposed. MakeRunways processes the scenery layers according to the active SCENERY.CFG file, which will be this one (if Windows is on the C: drive): C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D\SCENERY.CFG You can see exactly what files it gets what data from by examining the Runways.TXT file, which will be in the main Prepar3D folder where you should have placed MakeRunways.EXE to run it. Provided the addon airports are enabled and follow (i.e. have a higher LAYER= number than) the defaults, their data should override the data from the defaults. sometimes you get both when the later layer doesn't inclued the correct "Deletes". you say you have disabled the default airport, but to do that you'd actually either need to edit one of the default P3D BGLs or rename it altogether. The default airport BGLs each contain many airports, so that is not usually done and in't needed at all for any add-on airports I know of. I suggest you check the Runways.TXT file because that explains everything being processed, in the order it is processed thanks to the SCENERY.CFG file. Did you first check that the correct SCENERY.CFG file was being read? It is identified in the first few lnes. You now need to search further in the file for the add-on airport entry. Search for "Airport 65S" again. Just showing the first occurrence doesn't tell us anything about what is happening. In my Scenery cfg.file I can now see that Base area,witch include airport 65S have an lower number than the scenery from ORBX. If the ORBX one contains a correct AFD BGL then it should override the default perfectly well. No no! NEVER place any of the defaults on top of add-ons. And what you say makes no sense to me I'm afraid. It simply isn't right. Can you please explain what you mean with "correct Deletes" If an addon airport definition is replacing earlier (lower priority) defined airports, like defaults or whatever, then unless the replacements are genuinely identical it has to include certain "Delete" codes to remove the earlier entries and avoid duplicates. As an example, here's the deletions for EGLC included in an add-on for London City airport, as logged in the RUNWAYS.TXT file: Deletions check for Airport EGLC: Delete all taxiways! Delete all runways and starts! COM: Delete all frequencies! Of course if the defaults for any of these are still okay, the add-on simply doesn't delete them nor redefine them so the originals stay intact. Is there something I can correct in any way? This is a problem that others have too (discussed in the ORBX forum) with programs that use MR.We are placed outside airports or inside buildings etc.It is not that big deal but if that could been any good solution for this it would be nice. Well, MakeRunways has now been in successful use by many applications and with many FS versions since way back in FS2000 days and whilst there have been changes along the way they have mainly been to try to deal with some odd practices by scenery designers. If you think it is not doing with ORBX sceneries (of which I have none) what it should be doing I need more information and probably one or more of the BGLs which are causing the problems so I can see what odd tricks they are doing which aren't catered for. If you cannot figure it out from the Runways.txt log file (and it seems you've not looked far enough yet), by all means ZIP that file and email it to me along with one or two of the affected AFD BGLs (as idenitfied for the airports in question in the log file), and tell me the relevant airport IDs. options. This bring me outside the ORBX airport and seem to point to the default airport. When I launce the airport from P3D I get this options. The BGL its overriding defines parking places 1 - 8, not 1-5 like this and the default. Having two active AFD files doing the same thing is always going to cause you confusion. You must either move that third entry to a lower layer number than the second one 9counting the default as the first, or just remove it altogether if it does not more than undo the work of the second one. In other words this file ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_NA_NRM05_SCENERY\scenery\ADE_FTX_NRM_65S_Boundary_Co.BGL looks to be the correct AFD you want, but it is being overridden by this file ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_AA_65S\scenery\65S_ADEX_ORBX.BGL because the latter is at a higher priority (larger layer number). I reckon you could remove that last file and things would be right. Try renaming it from BGL to BGX. I don't know why P3D takes you to correct places. That makes no sense to me, but since you've not sent me these two relevant BGLs I can't really investigate further at present. I also use ORBX scenery - I have most of all three areas, North America, Europe and Australia & New Zealand (considered 1 "area" - Oceania). The thing about ORBX is that you can only have one area loaded at a time. They have a small application called FTX Central that easily allows one to switch areas or revert to the default FSX scenery. Based on my peeking under the hood and the messages shown during FSX start up, it appears this application re-edits the scenery.cfg file every time you switch an area. My question: Based on what I read above (I really appreciate how you were able to break things out) I think I would have to run Make Runways after each time I switch ORBX scenery areas. Well You certainly could do that, but I think it would be much more efficient if you simply enable ALL your scenery areas, run MakeRunways just once to get a complete database, then revert to your normal choices. You don't need to run FS at all -- MakeRunways simply goes by the enabled layers in the current SCENERY.CFG file. Ian P Posted October 3, 2013 Report Share Posted October 3, 2013 Selecting an area in Orbx, in my experience, actually enables all Orbx airports, everywhere in the world - you just get the terrain, landclass and object optimisations for the specific area you selected. Therefore, for example if you set FTXCentral to Europe and fly in Australia, you'll see European (currently British!) landclass changes, the terrain will not necessarily be correct, etc. If you check your scenery configuration, with any Orbx region enabled, however, you should see all the airports listed. (although it does feel strange referring to the legendary inventor of FSUICP by his first name - Wow!) :) That certainly is the way to go I will try it right away. I had never flown out of a scenery area so I never noticed tat (will have to give tat a try). Likewise when I looked at the configuration files (the ones that are used to change the land class & scenery) I must have assumed they must have also changed the airports - at least the ORBX purchased airports.
