Hi

I'm new to the forum and have limited computer ability.  I run FSX and recently have been told elsewhere, that I need to update FSUIPC4.  Apparently I have version 4.20.  I run Windows 8.1 and this is where I see the FSUIPC4 file:  "This PC->Local Disk(D:)->FSX->Modules".  My question is, if I download the latest version of FSUIPC4, will the download automatically find the required location and overwrite the old file or do I have to do this manually?  Are there other files I need to download at the same time: I see do something else called 'WideFS'?

Thanks.

Answers in order:

1. Download the FSUIPC4.ZIP file, extract the Installation document and the Install EXE file, read the former and run the latter by right-clicking on it and selecting "run as ... administrator". (As explained in the instructions).

2. It will be automatic.

3. No other files are needed. The files installed are listed in the Installation document. WideFS is a separately purchased product.

HI Pete,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I think I've followed  your  instructions correctly.  So just to check, I've had a look in the FSX Module folder.  I see two 'text' doc's.  One is file FSIPC4, Version 4.20.  The other is file FSIPC4.DLL, Version 4.928 .  Should these both be Version 4.928, or does it not matter and am I fully up to date?

Thanks.

The file installed is FSUIPC4.DLL. Thee is no file of any relevance to FSUIPC called just "FSIPC4" with no filetype. Where are you reading its version number?

Hi Pete,

Sorry, I should be more careful.  The two 'text' doc's in my FSX Module folder are:

FSUIPC4, Version 4.20, and

FSUIPC4.DLL, Version 4.928

It was  these two versions that I was enquiring about.

Thanks.

FSUIPC installer does not install any text documents in the Modules folder. You might still have an FSUIPC4.INI  (configuration file) and an FSUIPC4.LOG from running FS before -- these files are generated when you run FS. They are text files, but there is no version number attached, so I don't know where you are reading this 4.20 in the file properties. It would only say so in the text itself.

FSUIPC4.DLL is NOT a text file, it is the program actually called FSUIPC4 which runs when you run FS.

I suggest you stop Windows explorer hiding the proper filenames from you. There are instructions for this in the FSUIPC4 user guide if you do not know how.

Hi Pete

I'm just concerned that I have done today's download of FSUIPC4 correctly.   So I thought I should show you the folders, as I see them, in "This PC->Local Disk(D:)->FSX->Modules".  They are:

FSUIPC Documents   29/01/2014 11:55     File Folder

FSUIPC4 Install          29/01/2014 11:56     Text Document                            4kb

FSUIPC4.DLL             12/01/2014 04:19    Application Extension              411kb

FSUIPC4                     28/01/2014 20:31    Configuation Settings                  1kb

FSUIPC4                     28/01/2014 20:32    Text Document                             2kb

List of FSX Controls    23/10/2007 05:02    Adobe Acrobat Document          50kb

When I double left click the text document  "FSIUPC4 Install", it shows Version 4.928

When I double left click the text document "FSUIPC4", it shows Version 4.20

Do you think I'm OK with what I see, and when I run FSX, I will be using the latest version of FSUIPC4?

Thanks.

Hi,

the both files in your folder

FSUIPC4 28/01/2014 20:31 Configuation Settings 1kb
FSUIPC4 28/01/2014 20:32 Text Document 2kb

are just created last time you started FSX and that was yesterday 28th.

The other files are correct installed today 29th.

That's why you see the old version number in FSUIPC4.log file (Text Document).

As soon you start FSX and close you will see everything correct.

The file 'List of FSX Controls' is an old version from an earlier installation, a new version of that file you will find in the subfolder 'FSUIPC Documents'.

Many thanks for that reply.  Yes , I see everything as you say.

It may be of interest to some that the reason I installed the latest version of FSUIPC4 was because when I ran FSX, the program 'froze'.  The Event Viewer indicated FSUIPC4 as the problem on my setup.   After installing the latest version of FSUIPC4, everything seems OK now.
