Hofer Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 Hi guys, I still have a Problem, with my FSUIPC. I use Windows 8.1 and when I go to the FSUIPC in my FSX. I can not assign any axis. What could be the Problem. Does anyone knows the Problem or what can I do? I use the latest Version of FSUIPC 4.931 and I have clicked on rescan. It still does not work. Best regards Florian Herrmann

I assume you actually moving the lever you wish to assign to? Does FSX see your axes? Please show me your FSUIPC4.INI file from the Modules folder. You can paste it here. Pete

Pete Dowson Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 The FSX can see them. But FSUIPC not. Hmm. Very strange -- FSUIPC uses the same methods, once it has identified the device. Is this the correct device? 0=T.Flight Hotas X 0.GUID={654E4AC0-8775-11E3-8001-444553540000} Are there any buttons on the device? Are they seen in FSUIPC's button assignments tab? Please edit the INI file, adding these lines to the [General] section: LogAxes=Yes Debug=Please LogExtras=x200008 LogButtonsKeys=Yes Then run FSX, go to the Axes tab and give each lever/axis one movement each in turn. And press each button once. Then close FSX and show me the FSUIPC4.LOG file. Pete

Pete Dowson Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 Hi, same problem in the Button assignment. Here is the log: Ah, the problem is a failure in DirectInput: 469 Trying: "HKCU\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\DirectInput\VID_044F&PID_B108\Calibration\0" 469 Found correct joystick Id 0 469 ... and a "GUID" value 484 DirectInput8Create failed, return = 80040154 The last time i saw this it was due to an extra unwanted DLL in the FSX foolder. Here's what the user reported: "I searched for all Directinput8 files and found only one. It was found in the main FSX folder so I deleted it. I have no idea how it got there, my guess is it was tagged in with a freeware addon I installed at some point. I deleted it out and I can now get axis assignment information, as well as Button + Switches Assignments." Please check for this -- let me know. Pete
Hofer Posted April 19, 2014 Author Report Posted April 19, 2014 Hi Pete, just another question. What is the name of the axis assignment for so I can swing the view in the VC?
aua668 Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 Hi, Look for "AXIS PAN HEADING", "AXIS PAN PITCH" and "AXIS PAN TILT" in the FSX controls document. Rgds Reinhard
Pete Dowson Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 Look for "AXIS PAN HEADING", "AXIS PAN PITCH" and "AXIS PAN TILT" in the FSX controls document. Or, for a Hat assignment, assign to "Pan View". Pete
jdriskell Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 Ever since I had the misfortune to upgrade from Win 8 to Win 8.1, I have also been having problems assigning axes. I had previously assigned the two center levers of my CH Throttle Quadrant as throttles for my PMDG 737NGX before I ungraded. After I upgraded, I attempted to create a new profile for a C-47. I couldn't assign any axes so I copied the 737 profile and tried to add the first two levers as prop controls and the last two levers as mixture controls. I couldn't assign any more axes. I did get around the problem by manually creating the axes using a text editor. I was then able to calibrate the new axes and they seem to work fine. Any ideas why I'm having problems with FSUIPC. I did run FSUIPC with the edit lines in the .ini file. The process generated a log file of over 8.5 G in size. I've zipped the file down to 244K and can send it on if necessary. Thanks in advance for any help.

jdriskell Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 I did read the solution earlier in the thread. Before I posted my question, I searched my C:\ drive and my I:\ drive (SSD) that contains my FSX directory but didn't find any "Directinput8 files" on either drive. Any other ideas? Jim Driskell
Hofer Posted April 22, 2014 Author Report Posted April 22, 2014 Hi, I had the same Problem, take a look in your mainfolder, there is a file called D8INPUT.DLL i have delete it and then it works. But for sure make a backup of this file. Best regards Hofer
jdriskell Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 I checked my C:\ and I:\FSX drive for D8INPUT.DLL. I don't have a copy anywhere. What do I do next to get to resolve the FSUIPC axes assignment problem. Thanks in advance, Jim Driskell
Pete Dowson Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 I checked my C:\ and I:\FSX drive for D8INPUT.DLL. I don't have a copy anywhere. What do I do next to get to resolve the FSUIPC axes assignment problem. Thanks in advance, Did you do the logging as suggested earlier in the thread? It would provide more information. Do that and show me the results. I also need to see your FSUIPC4.INI. Currently there's no information at all. for instance, does FSX see your axes? Do either see buttons? The strongest suspect at present is a corrupted Windows installation, so be prepared for the advice to reinstall it. Pete
jdriskell Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Hi Pete, I decided to install the latest version of FSUIPC to see if this helped the problem. I was running 4.9.2.9 and now I'm running 4.9.3.1. Seems that the problem has gone away. I'm now able to assign additional axes and calibrate them although I have to tell FSUIPC to ignore the axis when I'm scanning a particular lever. I also wonder why my yoke, throttle quad and rudder pedals are defined twice, once by letters and then by numbers. I'm attaching my .ini for your review. I've attached the log file as a zip file to reduce its size. Thanks for your help. I guess I owe you some of The Macallan. Jim Driskell Here's the .ini file. Pete Dowson Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 I'm now able to assign additional axes and calibrate them although I have to tell FSUIPC to ignore the axis when I'm scanning a particular lever. That'll be because an axis is jittering -- constantly sending changes. You should find a place to park that one which is stable (usually at one or other end). I also wonder why my yoke, throttle quad and rudder pedals are defined twice, once by letters and then by numbers. I'm attaching my .ini for your review. The whole point of using letters instead of numbers is so that changes, wrought by Windows updates or disconnecting and reconnecting devices, don't mix up your assignments. However, FSUIPC still has to use the numbers in its calls to Windows. The entries in [JoyNames] allow FSUIPC to relate the letters to the current numbers by using the names, or if there are duplicate names, the "GUIDs", which should be unique. The entries also allow me to assist diagnosis from logs when needed. I've attached the log file as a zip file to reduce its size. But of course I don't need it if it is all working. Pete
