Gazguzzler Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Hello Pete, I hope that you can help me please? I have installed Simconnect onto my server laptop (Alienware M18 W7-64bit) and WideClient onto my client HP laptop (W7-32bit). FSUIPC and WideFS are registered. WideFS user guide followed I think to the letter and the A1 Traffic utility connects on both server and client pc's (I can email screenshots if necessary?). The issue that I have is that the wideclient connection keeps being closed by the server then restarted? see log files below. I cannot connect ASN or FSC9 across the network because of this I think??? Firewall and Anti-virus programmes have been turned off but to no avail. Firewall exceptions have been made for FSX.EXE and Wideclient.exe using ports 500, 8002 and 9002. Server pc (Mothership) and Client pc (Galaxy-1) are sharing the same workgroup FLIGHTSIM and all read and write access is OK in the homegroup. i am using the IP address of the two pc's as using the pc names wouldn't give me a connection when testing with the A1 traffic utility. ********* WideClient Log [version 6.999n] Class=FS98MAIN ********* Date (dmy): 26/10/14, Time 23:11:09.260: Client name is GALAXY-1 515 Attempting to connect now 515 Trying TCP/IP addr 192.168.1.10, port 8002 ... 515 LUA: "C:\Users\Gary\Documents\WideClient\Initial.LUA": not found 21560 Error on client pre-Connection Select() [Error=10060] Connection timed out 21560 Ready to try connection again 22620 Attempting to connect now 22620 Connection made okay! 58906 Timed out response: connection assumed lost! 58906 Ready to try connection again 58969 Timed out response: connection assumed lost! 59967 Attempting to connect now 59967 Connection made okay! 60295 Connection closed by server! 60295 Attempting to connect now 60295 Connection made okay! 60607 Connection closed by server! 60607 Attempting to connect now 60607 Trying TCP/IP addr 192.168.1.10, port 8002 ... 60607 Connection made okay! 60919 Connection closed by server! 60919 Attempting to connect now 60919 Connection made okay! 61231 Connection closed by server! 61231 Attempting to connect now ********* WideServer.DLL Log [version 7.934] ********* Blocksize guide = 8192 (double allowed) Date (dmy): 26/10/14, Time 23:20:15.799: Server name is MOTHERSHIP 15880 Initialising TCP/IP server 15880 Initialising UDP/IP server 16146 Broadcasting service every 1000 mSecs 172817 Closing down now ... Pete Dowson Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 Actually, the Server never sees any attempt by the Client to connect. There are really only two possible reasons I can think of. Either Port 8002 is already being used by somethnig else on the Server, or, proabably more likely, you have a firewall blocking the connection. Incidentally, your FSUIPC is well out of date and no longer supported. The earliest currently supported version is 4.937. Pete
Gazguzzler Posted October 28, 2014 Author Report Posted October 28, 2014 Hi Pete, Thanks for the feedback, I will update FSUIPC to latest version, switch off firewalls (to verify again) and check the availability of ports. I will let you know how I get on this evening. Thanks once again for your advice Regards Gary
Gazguzzler Posted October 29, 2014 Author Report Posted October 29, 2014 Hi Pete, I have updated to the latest version of FSUIPC and verified ports 8002 and 9002 are clear for use via the cmd prompt and W7 resource monitor. I have spent most of this evening trying to ensure that the firewall was open to WideClient by setting up the incoming and outgoing rules on both PC's. When I launched FSX and then WideClient the latter was reporting not connected. I then noticed from Windows resourse monitor that my IP address on the server PC had changed from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.14 When I changed the Simconnect.xml and Simconnect.cfg files to use this new IP address WideClient connected and I was able to run the A1 traffic utility successfully. A few minutes later the "connected" word on the WideClient FS98 Eliminator box started to flicker on and off. At the same time the A1 traffic utility window started cyclic scrolling displaying messages of "adding A1 objects" then "removing A1 objects". I am really lost as to what is the cause and just hope you may have some more ideas? I can send you some screenshots by email if you think this would help you to diagnose further?? ********* WideClient Log [version 6.999n] Class=FS98MAIN ********* Date (dmy): 28/10/14, Time 23:15:45.203: Client name is GALAXY-1 514 Attempting to connect now 514 Trying TCP/IP addr 192.168.1.14, port 8002 ... 514 LUA: "C:\Users\Gary\Documents\WideClient\Initial.LUA": not found 530 Connection made okay! 748 Connection closed by server! 748 Attempting to connect now 748 Connection made okay! 1045 Connection closed by server! 1045 Attempting to connect now 1045 Connection made okay! ********* WideServer.DLL Log [version 7.937] ********* Blocksize guide = 8192 (double allowed) Date (dmy): 28/10/14, Time 22:58:05.978: Server name is MOTHERSHIP 15912 Initialising TCP/IP server 15912 Initialising UDP/IP server 16130 Broadcasting service every 1000 mSecs 1935738 Closing down now ... Please always close the program down before getting the log as valuable information is presented at the end. As far as it goes (only one second of operation) there were no errors at all. I don't think it can relate at all to the session you describe. The Server log you supplied shows no connection was made at all, so it evidently isn't the one relating to the Client log, even though judging by the time stamps in each they overlap -- the one second run of WideClient being within the 32 minutes of the Server log time -- but perhaps your PCs have different times set? Either that, or Wideclient was actually connecting (or trying to connect) to something different. Pete
Gazguzzler Posted October 30, 2014 Author Report Posted October 30, 2014 Hi Pete, Many thanks for your valuable support! OK, here are a fresh set of logs. When I launched the wideclient it said it was connected then after a short period of time it changed to waiting for connection then started connecting and disconnecting? Also, my ip address on the server pc has changed again, it appears to do this every time I boot it up I think? Gazguzzler Posted October 30, 2014 Author Report Posted October 30, 2014 Hi Pete, Just repeated the connection test with AVG firewall turned off on both PC's, same results as above occurred... Regards Gary
Pete Dowson Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 OK, here are a fresh set of logs. When I launched the wideclient it said it was connected then after a short period of time it changed to waiting for connection then started connecting and disconnecting? Also, my ip address on the server pc has changed again, it appears to do this every time I boot it up I think? It's currently 192.168.1.9 ?? Why not either use the ServerName, then, so the IP address doesn't matter, or change your network to use fixed IP addresses? However, an automatically assigned IP address shouldn't keep changing unless something is set up really badly in your router. Assigned addresses are normally kept for days or weeks or until some other devices needs them when the previous owner is turned off. Another possibility, i think, is that your server PC is trying to maintain more than one IP address, offering more than one way to connect -- eg either through two Ethernet connections, or maybe Wifi and Ethernet? Certainly i can see such a setup making the link between the Client and Server very precarious. Neither choose which route to use. Your Server log shows, exactly as before, that no connection attempt is EVER seen by the Server. ********* WideServer.DLL Log [version 7.937] ********* Blocksize guide = 8192 (double allowed) Date (dmy): 30/10/14, Time 21:00:41.345: Server name is MOTHERSHIP 15850 Initialising TCP/IP server 15850 Initialising UDP/IP server 16162 Broadcasting service every 1000 mSecs 129185 Closing down now ... You have something else there. Since you evidently can't find the culprit, why not simply change WideFS to use another port? It's a simple parameter change -- one in the FSUIPC4.INI file, in the [WideServer] section, and a matching one in the WideClinet.INI file. And whilst you are at it try changing from using ServerIPAddr to ServerName=MOTHERSHIP. Just repeated the connection test with AVG firewall turned off on both PC's, same results as above occurred... Does AVG have a Firewall? Mine doesn't. You use that as well as the built-in Windows Firewall? Did you turn the latter off? Pete
Gazguzzler Posted October 31, 2014 Author Report Posted October 31, 2014 Hi Pete, The good news is that I have managed to connect the wideclient and even ran the FSC9 from the client PC to prove it out. After trying all your suggestions above the last two steps that I took was to 1) change the ports to 8100 and 9100 and 2) I checked my TWO routers, the 1st router is my main talk-talk broadband connection and the 2nd router is used to connect our iPads/iPhones to the air printer (the D-link router is unable to), Anyhow when I checked the cabling between the two routers I had crossed the connection from Ethernet on #1 to the internet connector on #2...!! Many thanks for all your assistance Pete, it is very much appreciated :) Now to get ASN connecting from the client....! Cheers Gary
Gazguzzler Posted November 1, 2014 Author Report Posted November 1, 2014 Hi Pete, Tried connecting ASN and the message in ASN was waiting for FSX. I followed the ASN manual and I managed to connect ASN and update the weather in FSX. When I tried to run FSC9 again from the client I could not get any connection to server again. Booted up the pc's this morning and got a fatal error in FSX. Re-booting the pc made no difference so I changed FSX.cfg to .bak and re-started FSX. I now have FSX running OK but wideClient will not connect. I have gone over everything from the last several days but cannot get it to re-connect anymore! Feeling deflated, tired and frustrated to say the least. Any suggestion? Thanks and regards Gary

Feeling deflated, tired and frustrated to say the least. Any suggestion? Thanks and regards Gary ASN and WideFS have absolutely nothing in common. I think you must have a lot of other things going on there, something is obviously badly wrong, but it certainly doesn't look anything to do with WideFS. I've no idea what you had in your FSX.CFG to make FSX crash, but there certainly is nothing in there which relates to ASN or WideFS in any case. The only thing likely there is that the default flight is bad, or the aircraft or the weather loaded with it. I'm afraid I cannot support ASN as it is not my product and uses nothing I've written. If the network is getting blocked or messed up by just trying to use two separate programs using entirely different ports then your Network setup needs sorting out. I suspect having two routers connected is making things bad as they'll both want to do things. You should make the second router an access point only, NOT a router. It'll be in the configuration somewhere. You must certainly not have more than one box trying to assign IP addresses. Pete
Gazguzzler Posted November 1, 2014 Author Report Posted November 1, 2014 Hi Pete, Managed to solve the connection issues, I now have two client pc's connected to the server pc. Time to read the manuals for ASN and the technical manual for widefs before attempting to connect ASN. Cheers Gary Ps. My AVG is 2014 Internet Security and it comes with a firewall which takes control from the windows firewall.

Time to read the manuals for ASN and the technical manual for widefs before attempting to connect ASN. You don't need anything to do with WideFS for ASN. For ASN you have to have Simconnect configured for network access. ASN doesn't use FSUIPC or WideFS and WideFS doesn't use Simconnect. Ps. My AVG is 2014 Internet Security and it comes with a firewall which takes control from the windows firewall. Ah, that explains it. I only have the free AVG. Pete
Ian P Posted November 1, 2014 Report Posted November 1, 2014 Also, check that the ASN client, on the FS PC, is being loaded in dll.xml - the installer doesn't seem to put it there automatically, which is why mine wasn't working in P3Dv2. As soon as I added the module, all of a sudden it started working. Ian P.
Gazguzzler Posted November 2, 2014 Author Report Posted November 2, 2014 Hi Pete, Many thanks for the heads up on ASN with Simconnect, I will have a look at later today. Hi Ian, thanks for your tip also, I will certainly check it out later. Cheers Gary
Gazguzzler Posted November 2, 2014 Author Report Posted November 2, 2014 Hi Ian, I have tried to locate the dll.xml on the FS PC but not sure where I should locate it or how it should read if I could find it. Should it be in the directory under .../FSX/as_srv ?? I have located the dll.xml on my client pc under HiFi/ASNext_FSX and it looks like this: - <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?> <SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0"> <Descr>Launch</Descr> <Filename>dll.xml</Filename> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad> <Launch.Addon> <Name>as_connect</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Path>as_srv\as_btstrp.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon> </SimBase.Document> Any help is very much appreciated as I am not a PC expert by far. Regards Gary
Ian P Posted November 3, 2014 Report Posted November 3, 2014 Hi Gary, it's actually under a hidden path, for reasons best left known to Microsoft! C:\Users\#your_user_name#\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX If you don't have hidden files and folders set to visible, then you'll need to turn them on. In Windows Explorer, press "alt" to activate the menus, then select "Tools", "Folder Options", "Views", click the button so the dot is next to "Show hidden files, folders and drives" and then click "OK". Cheers, Ian P.
Gazguzzler Posted November 12, 2014 Author Report Posted November 12, 2014 Hi Ian, Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been away on business. I located the dll.xml file and modified it include ASN however, I still couldn't get it to connect. Do you have a screenshot of your dll.xml file so I can check that I have entered the correct text? Regards Gary
Ian P Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 <?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?> <SimBase.Document Type="Launch" version="1,0"> <Descr>Launch</Descr> <Filename>dll.xml</Filename> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Launch.ManualLoad>False</Launch.ManualLoad> <Launch.Addon> <Name>as_connect</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <Path>as_srv\as_btstrp.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon> </SimBase.Document> I've got epic amounts of things in mine, so I can't post all of it. That's the bits that would be relevant to you, though. Hope that helps! Cheers, Ian P.
Jumpmonkey Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 When I installed ASN on my network pc I got a request by the software to install ASN connect using the exe file in the ASN install folder The DLL entry is added and checked for by the main ASN program on the network PC when ASN starts up there was never any requirement add Dll.xml entry manually The ASN connect sub program is run on the FSX pc as it added the Asn folder to the FSX install folder the key to a correct install is setting the correct folder sharing before installing ASN I have no doubt this is explained in the manual
Ian P Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 I didn't install correctly on mine, which is why I suggested checking that it was.You are correct, however, that ensuring the proper folders are shared and accessible is critical. Most importantly, you have to be able to write to and not just read from the folders. If it cannot write, however, you tend to get a dialogue box from ASN specifically stating that it cannot write to the folder. Ian P.
Gazguzzler Posted November 14, 2014 Author Report Posted November 14, 2014 Hi Ian, Thanks, that was the same text that I manually inputted into the dll.xml file but still had no joy. Carried out a re-install of ASN but still no joy, I get the following error message every time I launch ASN.... "ASN was not able to update a required simulator module. please close your simulator, ensure proper write access to your simulator folder, then restart ASN so that the module can be updated" I have full read and write access between FSX pc and networked pc as I can edit files from the other pc. At a loss now? Regards Gary
