Hi Peter,

I was trying to test the ASN WX radar facility eplained in your documentation.

I was not able to have it correctly running so I have red in the logging the offset 8600 that sholud be set to 1 if ASN is detected and running.

I have found that even if ASN is running the offset is set to 0 and I think this is the reason of the issue.

I'm running FSUIPC 4.945a and networked ASN SP3.

Which could be the problem and how could I solve it?

Thanks in advance and Kind regards

Joe

Well this line:

1529 ASN active function link set

means that if knows ASN is running and has a link to its "active" function, but it should be followed by:

Ready for ASN WX radar

The only way I can see that not appearing is if some of the functions needs are missing in the "as_btstrp.dll" module installed by ASN. It needs these functions or locations exposed as exports:

AmbientIcing
WshLat
WshLon
WshRange
WshMinAlt
WshMaxAlt
SetRdrParams

If any one is not, then that second message won't appear. I can't access my system with ASN till tomorrow, else I'd tell you the exact version number of my copy of that DLL, but if you'd like to ZIP yours up and send it to me as an Email attachment (you might be better renaming it from a DLL to a TXT file first, otherwise it could get stopped), to petedowson@btconnect.com. I can check it here -- but it may be tomorrow.

I just sent the DLL (renamed into TXT) to the mail address specified by you.

The DLL is okay, and the same as mine. And I was wrong in my analysis above --  I was looking at the original code which was from when the order in which as_btstrp.DLL and FSUIPC4.DLL were loaded was important. That was fixed by later changes to ASN, but I kept the code in for folks who hadn't bothered to update ASN.

The only reason I can see for offset 8600 remaining zero is that ASN isn't signalling that it is active. This is a flag which is accessed through a pointer which is provided when FSUIPC calls the as_btstrp.DLL exported function isActive.

I'm afraid I've no idea why that isn't getting set. Are there no errors reported by ASN? I'm not sure where you'd check, but I think it may (possibly optionally) produce a log.

Best to now ask over in the ASN support forum. Let me know what response you get there, please, and feel free to quote my diagnosis from here. If you don't get an answer there within a reasonable time, let me know and I'll email my contact there.

Hi Pete,

I have opened the ticket on HiFiSim and the result is that everything should be  ok (no problems in the lof and I did a test with roland gauge that correctly runs).

By the way the offset 8600 is always set to 0.

Moreover I have a doubt with the radar instructions: the bitmap has to be generated by the user or is directly provided by ASN? Is there a specific location to have it generated or found?

Thanks and kind regards

Well, I'll check that next time I have my system up and running. At present I'm working on some stuff in the overhead.

ASN just provides a matrix of data to FSUIPC when it asks for it, about every 2-3 seconds. FSUIPC does nothing unless you add the one or two parameters to the INI file to tell it which filetype you want and where to put it. It generates either a bitmap, or a file with the raw data, or both, and places the file in the path specified. Isn't the documentation clear enough?

What are you using this bitmap or whatever with?

Hi Peter,

documentation is clear (only some doubts for me not being English my first language   )

I have put:

WXRADAR.LUA in Widefs directory

WXRADAR.MCRO in FSX\Modules directory

added row with ASNwxRadarBitmapPath=d:\FSX\Modules\WX.RADAR.BMP in FSUIPC.INI

added row with Background=z:\FSX\Modules\WX.RADAR.BMP  in Wideclient.ini (where z: is the networked drive for FSX)

modified 1st row in WXRADAR.LUA with path="z:\\FSX\\MODULES\\WX.RADAR.BMP"

but the WXRADAR.BMP file is not generated.

Ah, you are using the demo application I provided? I tohught you were trying to enable it for ProSim or another application!

but the WXRADAR.BMP file is not generated.

It certainly sounds like ASN is not correctly signalling that it is active. I can check here, I'm afraid this will have to wait till I can get my system back up. And none of this has changed. Last time I used my sim with ProSim it was working fine.

Whereabouts in the FSUIPC4.INI did you put the path line?

Pete

I put the row in FSUIPC.INI as the first in the [General] Section

Hmm. Something's certainly wrong somewhere. This is working here. Well, last time I used it (two weeks ago before I went on holiday), and others are reporting it as okay -- on the ProSim forum, for example, where it is used for the WX Radar on the ND displays.

I'll look to see whether there's any way to get more information, but for now it is sounding like an ASN installation problem.  Did you check for any ASN error log?

I've just managed to run my system now. As soon as FSX is "ready to fly" and ASN is running, offset 8600 changes from 0 to 1, and the Bitmap file is created in the place I asked for it to be.

This is not at all related to what you use the file for, so it is nothing to do with the Lua program or the Macro file. For some reason your ASN module is simply not signalling that it is active. I really don't know how to diagnose that -- the bit in 8600 is set when the A_BTSTRP.DLL's "IsActive" exported value goes to "true".

I think we still need HiFi to sort this out, or at least tell us where to look.

First though, let's compare notes. On the ASN Welcome Screen, at the bottom, the version number mine says is:

1.0.5707.28711

Yours?

My as_btstrp.dll is version 1.0.0.34, same as yours.

Is your ASN set for FSX, or FSX-SE? Check that this mode is selected correctly, else it almost definitely won't work.

Also, I just noticed that there was a Beta update for ASN released on 30th September. Is that the one you are using? It does mention something about a WX radar change.

Hi Pete,

Welcome screen number is the same of the yours, ASN is set for FSX, I did not download the beta version.

I will try to reinstall completely ASN and the as_btsrp.dll and I ll you know the result.

Thanks again for your support

Really I do not know what to think now.

Didn't HiFi point you to anything like a log or error file to check?

I'll try to remember to drop my contact there an email about it, but it'll be Monday now.

Hi Pete,

I sent to HIFISIM also the DLL's log, they say that no errors are there and everything seems fine: by the way the problem is still there.

Thanks again for your help and support

I've been doing more tests with extra logging.

Before I send you a link for a test version of FSUIPC, could you please find your DLL.XML file (in the same folder as the FS CFG file), and paste its contents here?

There appears to be a big difference in what happens depending on whether the as_btstrp.dll is loaded before or after FSUIPC. On my system if the AS_CONNECT entry is not last in DLL.XML then I get a warning from ASN saying I must restart FSX before ASN will work correctly, and when I do I find ASN has reversed the order of the AS_CONNECT and the FSUIPC4 entries, making as_btsttrp.dll run last.

When it is that way around it always worked. I managed to get it to NOT work once when I carried on and ignored the ASN warning.

Judging from your log, I think you might be trying to run without the change which ASN seems to do to make it work. This part indicates this:

1529 ------ Setting the hooks and direct calls into the simulator ------

1529 --- CONTROLS timer memory location obtained ok

     1529 --- SIM1 Frictions access gained

1529 ASN active function link set

1529 --- FS Controls Table located ok

1529 --- Installed Mouse Macro hooks ok.

1529 Wind smoothing may be by ASN, not FSUIPC, if it is running

1529 Will switch smoothing action when ASN starts/stops

     1529 --- G3D.DLL fix attempt installed ok

1529 --- SimConnect intercept for texts and menus installed ok

1529 --- All links checked okay

If so, I'm not understanding why you don't get the warning from ASN?

Meanwhile I'll try to find out why it sometimes doesn't work with the loading order reversed.

Could you try FSUIPC version 4.947b, just released, please, and let me know?

I think it must be some timing glitch between FSUIPC and as_btstrp, but with ASN actively "correcting" the loading order I found it hard to reproduce.

Thanks,

Pete

FSUIPC version 4.947c or d should fix it in any case, though I'd still like to see the file. Thanks.

Hi Pete,

BINGO !!!! The new version (4.947c) did the trick: the offset (8600) is now set to 1 when ASN is running.

I did not have the time to further test the WX radar, but I'm confident that now it will run fine and I'll let you know about that asap  (now in a business trip) also with the  DDL.XML file.

Once more thanks a lot for your great and passionate support !!!!!
