My guess would be it is a combination of Totem, and all the AI traffic that goes in and around there.
-
I posted about this very same problem a little while ago. Some possible reasons here:
-
They should say 5.00 Euro a piece. At least that's what it said for me about a week ago.
-
Really great pics.
I'll probably be heading to Alaska for work myself in a couple years. I'm a helicopter pilot and there is tons of seasonal tour work up there. I just need some more time down here in sunny South Florida instructing to build up some more hours. I'm a bit worried how my wife will get on up there, but since it will be during the spring/summer season, I think she'll love it.
On another note, I counted 5 hummingbirds in that one picture! Anyone else?
-
Great video Jeff. What water do you use?
-
Thanks for the input Phil. No, I don't use FSE.
I don't think the traffic is a problem. Great job on it!
-
Thanks for the info Nate. Strangely enough, taking off from there for me is no problem. It's only when my view is on the airstrip as I approach for landing that I get the slow down. If I turn my view to the either side, the fps jumps back up to the locked 30. Oh well, plenty of other great spots to go :)
-
Great night shots! I've yet to even fly around this area at night except for an ILS approach to close to minimums at PAKT. The Lookout looks really neat.
-
After fussing around a bit more, it seems the problem is unique to just a couple areas.
Ketchikan, landing east, slows me down quite a bit. But as TC1 mentioned above, that is understandable considering all the AI stuff, scenery, etc. (Landing west I still get upper 20's)
Last Chance Lake is very, very slow for me for some odd reason. Everything else such as Hyder and Stewart is fine in that area, so I'm not sure why. Some object placed in that scenery does not agree with my comp. Anyone else noticed this here?
To a lesser degree, Snowy Owl Lake slows me down a bit, but by a tolerable amount.
Yes Bay, numerous hatcheries, spotted owl, raptors roost, ranger lookout and some others all had no effect on my performance whatsoever.
-
Well, I just wasn't sure what was causing the slowdowns, which is why I said it is a "Misty" problem, meaning the Misty area, not so much the product. :) I think any customer who has the know-how to install the freeware addons realizes they are not developed by FSAddon, so I wouldn't worry about any confusion there.
Good idea on disabling scenery simdriver. I'll uncheck a few and see what happens.
-
That's a good point TC. However, I still found it strange that the slow downs still occur as far removed as Last Chance Lake, which is why I mentioned it. I haven't done extensive testing yet, so I don't know if it is everywhere.
Thanks for the info Heli. I think if you are referring to the Last Chance Lake update, yes, I do indeed have that. I could have missed something else you were referring to though. Either way, again, thanks for helping!

Hmm, well I don't know anything about corrected files, so I guess not?
(if your referring to the addon files from Misty Moorings, yes they are all current)
Where can I get these and what are they for?
-
This seems to be a problem exclusive to Misty. When on approaches to anywhere from PAKT to Last Chance Lake, my computer is slowing to a 10-13 fps crawl (with clear weather).
With my rig, it is usually pegged at my 30fps limit, dropping at the most into high teens, low 20's with heavy clouds and busy airport approaches. So I'm really stumped as to why in Alaska, with very little scenery and traffic around, it is bogging my comp.
Any ideas?

I agree with Holger. I think the rants and complaining on these forums (particularly the Misty one) are next to nothing.
p.s - IMHO, the supercub was a shoddy initial release and folks had a right to be upset.
-
if your interested, they're in the SS forum.

Really nice pics there. I sure hope you find a way to post the rest!
-
I agree with that, particularly with FlightSim.com's reviews. I think I'm yet to read one that doesn't end up sounding like an endorsement. Don't get me wrong, I frequently read and enjoy their reviews, but I think they are more akin to "in-depth reports" rather than reviews.

Great Idea!

I believe I heard of a promotion where if you get the Il-2 series newest release, Pacific Fighters, you get Lock On: Modern Air Combat for free. So that would solve your jet/prop situation.
I think you'd be crazy not to go with the Il-2 series, regardless of their lack of vector support. Very polished, historically accurate, and dozens of well modeled aircraft.
Lock On is the newest and, IMHO, best, jets sim available. It has it bumps, but it does so many other things right.

Well, the only other add-on I have even remotely close is Emma. Other than that, I have a mesh and ActiveSky. It happens with default weather too, so that rules out AS. The mesh seems improbable but who knows.

Holy Gorgeous!

Another note.....
On first encountering these problems, I tried to uninstall Orcas. Even after uninstallation, I got a message at splash screen saying "Scenery CFG problem: /fsaddon/Orcas #41 not found" or something to that effect. When I hit ok ORCAS would still show up in my library. It would do this on every startup, even if I removed the ORCA's from the scenery library.
-
Thanks for the replies.
The only other addon's I have that may affect it are an Abacus USA mesh and ActiveSky. I've had this Orcas since last summer and never had an issue. That's why I guessed it was the winter textures causing issues. Even with water options set to "off", it still occurs. It only seems to occur when it is snowing, but I have to test this further.
Another issue with this area is a "wiggling" of the entire view. It is noticeable in satellite view even. Hard to describe, but looks like the screen is shaking small amounts but very fast. Goes away when airborne or in slew mode. But I digress...
-
I'm not sure if this has something to do with the winter weather settings or what, but I can't duplicate this problem with summer settings on. The water is turning into a hard surface, almost like an ice effect. I'm fairly sure this wasn't included in the package, so I'm not sure what is going on. I've never installed any kind of "ice" mods and water is default.
Anyone have any ideas?
OMG I am in Love :D (MegaNW) **Attn** THIS POST MAY GET BIG!

Is all the shadowing "static" in this? In other words, do the shadows cast by mountains change with the day like default MS or is it a "locked" picture? I ask because I've never seen varying time of day pictures.
