  1. Hi Ed,

The FlightSim Commander used databases from the real world. (AIRAC Cycle)

That was and is our philosophy and decision for more than 20 years.

How can we now import FSX .pln flight plans whose waypoints such as Intersection, Airways, VOR, NDB etc.

are older than 10 years and no longer exist in the real database?

    Regards,

    Volker

I really have no idea how you would do that Volker, I am a user, not a programmer. I do know that 2 other Navigational programs are able to without any problems and maybe their database is different. I do realize now that I should have spent more time with the "Demo" version before jumping to purchase. I just assumed that any nav utility made for FSX/P3D would be able to import flight plans from those Sims. My mistake.

  2. I certainly didn't look deep enough into what FSC can do and what it can't based on what I'm used to. I found that it is incapable of building a flight plan going airport to airport over a long flight encompassing upwards of 20 to 30 airports. Basically a hop list for lack of a better term. Apparently it requires a "waypoint" (VOR, NDB) to be inserted between each airport otherwise it will simply take the first and last airport in the string and make that the flight plan. What if you are flying in a region (Mexico for example) where there are few navaids to select from over a wide expanse?

  3. Hello Alhard,

The answer to your question can be found on our FAQ page on our website.

    http://www.fscommander.com/faq.htm

Nevertheless, I do not understand the reason for this possibility.

An FSX flight plan do not includes any valid or real Sid's, Star's Transitions, Airways, Intersection, etc.

    Regards,

    Volker

Actually Volker, the reason for this possibility is that you have designed a utility that works with the two major Flight Sims (FSX and Prepar3D). The idea that after all the years you've had this product available and it isn't even able to import a "pln" file is, to be brutally honest, ridiculous. No other way to say it, and the fact that a pln file does not contain valid or real SID's, Star's, Airways, etc is honestly of very little if any concern to a very large portion of the Flight Sim Community. Not everyone flies a 747, Business Jet's or Commuter aircraft by the numbers. . .many of us fly simple flight plans built in "Flight Planner". More to the point, many have been flying FSX or P3D for years now and have amassed a large volume of "pln" files which we could import into FSCommander if that option was available. So, the ability to easily import them into a program like yours would be invaluable. That sir, is the "reason for this possibility".

  4. Looks like the release will hit 200 downloads before I call it a night tonight. there have been 97 on flightsim.com since it was posted this morning around 10CST. . . .SOH has 92 right now and it was posted about this time yesterday. I've gotten a couple of e-mails from folks who have some problems (one has a tree showing in the taxiway), but considering the number of downloads that's not bad. Of course I also considered the fact that there could be a fair number of folks who didn't care for it and just dumped it too, lol.

  5. Well, I went back to some early posts concerning EmmaX when Bill and Holger were still active with the project and Bill mentioned that he had to move the rwy for Emma south several yards (actually more than several, lol) because the "18" end was basically a steep ravine with the new mesh that Holger had produced. That bears out what I found when trying to initially get the runway and the elevations to match. I also ended up having to shift the rwy away from the drop-off to get it back on solid ground.

  6. I'm looking forward to trying out your latest version, Ed.

    Consider me a Beta tester!

Sure thing Jeff. It's changed several times since those screens were shot, so I'm going to post some new ones. There are some elevation "problems" here and there, but overall, it's very enjoyable to fly around that area now with Cushman Meadows, Bear Gulch and now Emma Field all within range of each other. I flew "Ant's" Drifter around last night shooting touch n' go's for a while just to get a feel for Emma from the air and on approach. I think it works pretty well. More to come!

  7. Well, I think I have this for both PNW scenery and base scenery (w/GEX&UTX) to the point where it's very usable. The very central area was a problem in that the sloped flatten didn't allow for an AFCAD produced rwy to sit flat, some portions of it were hidden by the slope. Soooooooooo, I hit on an idea. . . .in SBuilderX I drew an area that encompassed the main airport parking and runway, set it as a "hole" and knocked that area out of the sloped flatten poly, then I highlighted that area again and gave it a set altitude to match the elevation at the center of the runway. What you end up with basically is like taking a paper towel and having the corners slope upward and take a sheet of glass and lay it in the middle to flatten that section. Seems to work quite well surprisingly, lol.

  8. Just a quick observation: This looks so much better when I shut off the Orbx scenery and just have UTX and GEX running. The cliffs become rolling hills, no sharp corners and I noticed another problem in Orbx. . . .at the end of rwy 18, the elevation drops off again about 50ft from the end of the rwy. So what I have is basically the end of rwy 18 looking like a springboard at the city pool. This is with the flatten going well beyond that area, so the flatten is being overridden by Orbx. . . .great!

  9. Here are two shots of the WIP (w/Orbx PNW active). You can see in the long shot the "cliffs" in the foreground (still working on that), however the major cliffs along the western edge where the power lines are have been all but eliminated using IanP's suggestion of a 4-corner sloped flatten (thanks Ian).

Note: the autogen (trees) are from the PNW scenery, I haven't done any additional autogen yet.

  10. Hi Gary,

Yes, the previously touted EmmaX "Alternate" scenery is still available, I just never went public with it as very few folks outside of this forum seemed to be interested. Having said that, as the posts here confirm, I am reworking the scenery because after having a singular success with the USGS Seamless server I was able to extract some ground texturing that I thought looked better than what I had used originally. Since I did the original scenery I have loaded Orbx's PNW scenery and that in turn has completely changed the look and general elevations of the area in and around Emma Field. . . .so much so that if one has that PNW scenery the original scenery will still look ok, but the "wall" effect I speak of will be very obvious and just takes away from what it could look like if I knew more about how to control the surrounding mesh.

IanP has given me a direction to follow and I plan to get right to that later today and this evening. Hopefully I can find a happy medium that will both minimize the effect of a flatten in a very undulating terrain environment and still look "natural" if that's possible.

  11. . . . . . .You'll probably need to modify part of the surrounding terrain to "ease out" the slopes, rather than trying to eliminate them entirely. Even then it's a less then straight forward process, as I proved repeatedly with RAF Friston. I presume you are using SBuilderX to work with the flatten polys?

    Cheers,

    Ian P.

Yes, SBuilderX and I was actually trying to "stack" a series of poly's moving out from the main flatten, thinking I could gradually lessen the "wall" effect, but that hasn't worked like I envisioned.

  12. Jeff, still working on an updated ground texture. Actually, the ground texture isn't the problem, it's the terrain around the airport. A normal flatten isn't going to work because the surrounding elevations change so dramatically in all four directions that a simple flatten leave sheer walls all around. If I try to raise the elevation to minimize the "wall" effect, it has a similar effect where there's a drop off to the south. . . .more sheer walls going down. I tried a sloped flatten with about a 10% slope to it and that looked pretty good except that the runway was partially covered because it was no longer a "flat" surface. I'm still playing with this, but it's frustrating to say the least.

  13. Dobie, sorry to hear you're under the weather. Been there done that though and so take the time to heal and let everything else go for now. We'll all still be milling around somewhere that's for sure.

I did get on the digitalthemepark and fly with Scottie and a couple others, but just the process to get online and fly is so cumbersome I haven't gone back. TS is simple but going through gamespy and getting an ID, then go over here and do this, then take that info and come back here and input, then get an OK and then finally type that ISP here and see if it lets you in. . . . .lol. . .geeze. . . .with FSHost, I just login and fly. Besides that, I didn't write anything down, or in what order I had to accomplish what, so I don't really want to mess with it again. Nice folks over there, but just so over the top to just fly. Seems silly to me really.

  14. Come on over some afternoon and see us The t/s 3 address is 50.21.183.90 that will get you to the main lobby one of the administrators will get you set up for our northwest area. see you soon

During the week, I'm a "Caregiver" for an elderly lady, so I'm not at the apartment until after 5:30PM. Weekends are pretty free most of the time and evenings, but during the day, afraid not.

  15. Hi

As was talked about in the Back for a visit topic. We are planning a fly-in and flight on December 4th.2011.

It has been a long time since we have been together and we now have a couple of reliable Multi servers to work with.

The digitalthemepark community has Set up a channel on there teamspeak 3 for our fly in and they have a FShost server also.

They have weekly flights. When you go to the site one of the admin. pilots will will be glad to get you going.

Scottie and I will be there most day's from 1300 cst.THe flight plan will leave from Bremerton Nat. KPWT.

    The Teamspeak IP 50.21.183.90

Hope to see some posts from all interested pilots tell you friends and this is not just for Emma members. Just People who like to fly with others.

    I'll be there for sure!

  16. Hi, Is the Emma Field X Project up and running yet? I am eager to join as I like the challenge of short runways, obstacles on approach and the atmosphere of flying in multiplayer.

I know it has been mentioned that there will be no ILS systems installed which I can understand, however I would like to test my skills as an Air Traffic controller, It might seem inappropriate, but I think it will enhance the Bush experience rather than take from it. If not I would still like to join anyway as a pilot, maybe an instructor for newcomers? I know I might be getting "to deep" already, but I believe that I will bring a lot of benefit for this Flying club.

    Best regards,

    Haydn

I may be wrong, which is entirely possible since information on Emma Field seems to change with the wind, but I believe that all work on Emma Field has ceased completely. With the Orbyx masterpiece PNW and the additional addon airports that are available (for a hefty price), it seems that has taken center stage. Other areas are being added such as the Northern Rockies and Pacific Fjords. Understand that all this is my observations mixed with personal opinion, hence you could find that I'm absolutely full of it, lol. However, my final opinion is that Emma will not see the light of day in our lifetime. From the very outset, after FSX was released and questions began arising about an update to Emma to make it compatible with the new sim we heard the famous utterings of "we're working on it, it's being worked on, it could take some time, but fear not, it will happen" and then, over time, Orbyx development surfaced and some of those working on Emma were also doing work on PNW. Delays began being reported, some individuals left the Emma Project and those still active were busy with Orbyx, or just real life in general. Emma won't happen. I would invest in the basic PNW package, then as your finances allow, begin adding other sections, like the Rockies or Pacific Fjords. For FSX at least that will be the focus for most folks flying the Great Northwest. It's time to move on!

  17. Hi Ed. Dobie and I fly in the area quite often around 19:00 to 21:00 GMT . And we were thinking of a flight around the beginning of December, mebbe a 2 hour flight.

Would appreciate some feedback to see if anyone is interested, and what time would suit them.

A lot of people probably have PNW installed, so that might be a good area to fly.

    Scottie

    Hi Scottie,

Yep, I'd be up for a 2 hour flight just about any time really. I'm basically retired now and spend most of my time either trying to lose weight or simming. . . .It's a hard life, lol. I'll keep checking in from time to time and when things start to get cranked up I'll do what I can to get folks excited about it. Good to hear from you. Tell Dobie I said hi. Unfortunately the time frame you guys fly is mid-afternoon here and it's the one time I'm away from the computer.

  18. Been quite a long time since I logged into any Emma Field Forum what with the demise of Emma Field and all. I'm a daily inhabitant of SOH and spend the majority of my time contributing there as well as doing repaints and VC Panel Mods when the need arises. GaryGB stopped by last week to contribute to a thread I had started and also mentioned the very real possibility of an MP flight this fall. I do have the basic PNW scenery and a few extra airports so while I may not be as well stocked as some, The idea of a group flight in that neck of the woods is pretty exciting news.

I'm going to bookmark this forum and continue to check back periodically cause I don't want to miss the flight when it happens. Take Care All!!
