  1. I posted this elsewhere in the Simflight Forums, but since this is the Emma Forum, it seemed natural to post here as well. The saved file I have for Emma Field is saved to a DVD which my DVD drive will no longer read. As a matter of fact, I've tried it on several other systems and they don't read it either. Is there any site that still has the download available?

    Thanks.

  2. I'll attempt to answer this in as a brief a manner as possible. . . .Yes, EmmaX is being worked on.

Now, if you can find them, there are threads here that relate to the current status. There are also threads on other sites as well as blogs that speak of this elusive subject, but alas, there is no centrally located, EMMA_X UPDATES thread. Because of that I return you to my initial answer. . .Yes it's being worked on, no it isn't close to being released. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

  3. . . . . .Only issue is how best to get copies of the paint to those that want it. I don't really want to send it to avsim, since it's only really of interest to people coming on this trip. I can easily email it out to people on receipt of a pm (885 KB), or I'm open to suggestions... :)

    Tim,

I have a box.net site that I can upload it to and then just post a direct link here and folks can just click on the link and get it that way.

  4. Larry,

Not a problem, really, this has to work for the majority and as you said, folks are spread out all over the world really, so hitting a time that will work for everyone is really not possible. Also, with it being Sunday, moving it earlier in the day runs into Church schedules and breakfast as well for some folks, not to worry, the way I'm looking at this now is if I catch the beginning, middle or end of a flight it's no matter, if i miss them altogether, that's fine too. I'm also doing ultralight flights every Saturday afternoon and the GAAR (Great Australian Air Rally) over at Bluegrass Airlines starts in earnest today, and I'm flying those flights as well. So it's not like I have nothing to do, lol. Stick with what you have and enjoy the flights.

  5. Oh well, that's kinda what I was afraid of. I figured it would end up sometime mid afternoon so that folks across the pond could participate as well and that's important that they be a part of this as well. I'll not be flying though as Sunday afternoon 2pm to 4pm CST is taken up with my granddaughter (she loves to roller skate and I love watching her) so I'll just enjoy the screens you guys take and listen to the recap of each weeks flights as they're posted here.

  6. ok, just found your post on the 22nd. So it isn't the visibility that's a problem, there is no active thermal dynamics working in the areas where the thermals show up. That's beyond me at this point then. I don't have any knowledge of that part of Emma nor do I do I fly gliders, deleted all of those from the sim a long time ago. Sorry I couldn't help.

  7. Ok, an update to this. . .I loaded Emma Field and went to the dropdown menu for "Lago" at the top menu bar and there is an option there to show thermals. When clicked, the areas of thermals display as colored boxes, kinda funky if you ask me, not the spiral display that I've seen before, but they do display non the less. I could not find a general setting to display thermals however and I was almost certain there is one. It does appear tho that for Emma Field that is the only way to see them. If you've already tried that and it doesn't work then I'm not sure that anyone will have a fix for it.

  8. I assume you want to see these for use with a glider. If I remember right, there is a check box somewhere in the options setup within FS9 that allows thermals to be made visible. I'll look around inside FS9 and see. As for Lago, they've been out of the picture for years now, no support at all anymore on any of their products.

  9. Well Francois, apparently he has been away a long time since he also refers to FSX1, which I assume he is talking about FSX11 and hasn't heard that the ACES team was let go at Microsoft and no future Flight Sim offerings will be forthcoming. Also, it has been my observation that folks don't read a thread from start to finish, whether it be 2 pages or 10 pages, people will ultimately check the title to see what the subject is, then go to the last post and read that and maybe the previous posts on that page, but seldom will they read from the beginning to the end. I think folks assume that the last page will be a compilation of all the facts and so save them from having to read every post.

  10. Looks like we need a posted guide to Multiplayer. It would be much simpler than sending e-mails to various folks and everyone would have access to it here whenever they needed it. There's nothing inherently difficult about Team Speak or FSHost, but if you don't use them at all or very often it does require some explanation. If someone already has this info available and can post it here that would be ideal. It doesn't need to be a 25 page book, just the basics of installing the programs and logging in. Very simple stuff, shouldn't take more than a paragraph on each to get folks into the programs.

If no one has anything short and concise then I can put one together and post it this evening. If the IP address has been decided on for these programs then let me know and I'll incorporate it into the information.

  11. Pretty simple really. . .ya go here:

http://www.chocolatesoftware.com/fshost/ and click on the download for FSHost Client 1.1. Install it making sure you place an icon on the desktop for easy access. Once installed, double click the icon, type in the server info, click join once the server is located and you're in. FSHost Client is only required for FSX, FS9 still uses the internal MP login it always has. FSX also requires that when using FSHost Client you fly in "windowed mode" since they haven't work out a way to allow popups (the chat window) and keep the sim from being affected. As far as ports to open, unless this flyin uses some exotic port to fly with, the standard ports would be 23456, 23457, 23458.

    As for Teamspeak, go here:

http://www.teamspeak.com/?page=downloads and download the TS2 Client and also the TS2 Client (updated executable). Install those and again be sure to add an icon to your desktop for access. Once installed and you get the TS server info from Pups or whoever, double click the icon, click on "quick connect", type in the server info, your callsign and check the box next to anonymous and then connect and you're in.

  12. Well said Larry. If I were really concerned about the future of MS, I might buy into the immediate "oh my god what am I going to do now that flight sim is dead" hysteria, but MS hasn't really done anything for us other than bitch constantly about how the flight sim market is a relatively small part of their concern and their "maybe we will and maybe we won't" mentality. The Flight Sim Community is a huge brotherhood and I suspect will continue to self perpetuate if left to our own devices. I have both FS9 and FSX running smoothly, addons to keep me happy into the next century, lol and willing to continue supporting developers who see a stable marketplace for their creations. I for one want the folks who create the world we fly in to know I support them and will continue to do so despite Microsoft's insanity.

  13. :D :D :D. . . . .Also the following airport: S88,S10,KDEW,KGGW,KSBX,NA30,CYAM,3W7,2B2 will have enhanced scenery thanks to Bill, Ed and Gary, so be sure to stop by, you never know what you might see. . . . . .

Actually, while nice to see my name in print, lol, I've contributed very little to the venture. The real workhorses here are Bill and Gary and they definitely deserve a round of applause for getting the scenery enhancements ready for the cross country fly-in. I'm looking forward to it to be sure.

  14. Hey Brad. . . .welcome back. Glad to see you in here. I wasn't aware of the problems you were having, but I did chat with Dobie for short time on TS today and he filled me in. Do what ya need to do to get back to flying status and we'll all be looking for you online ASAP. I'm looking forward to the flight as well. Not sure what I can do as I don't have the talents that the other folks do, but if I can assist in any way I'd be glad to. Take care Brad.

  15. Yes it’s been pretty quiet around here of late.

I’ve been absent since last fall. We had an unfortunate chain of events happen and it was pretty difficult for me to cope with it.

Anyway, life goes on and I hope to be back here again on a regular basis.

    Puppy

Wow. . . .look at you. . . .Welcome back Larry, great to hear from you once again. A lot of folks have been wondering how you were and it's great to see you post again.

Been pretty quiet here with the exception of Plum Island happenings (an excellent addon if you don't already have it). Also some quiet rumblings that Bill may be contemplating an FS9 release of that beautiful work as well. In the meantime, I've discovered Glacier Bay Ver. 2 by Holger and have been flying quite a bit over at http://www.vrseries.com and the Glacier Bay Ultralight Club with JP and doing scenery additions to Glacier Bay as well. If you are interested stop in some evening on TS (e-mail me for the IP or get it on the VRSeries website) and chat with JP. I'm usually on there as well. Anyway, great to see that you're still around and I hope to run into you somewhere in the virtual skies once again.

  16. First of all, thanks to Bill, Ian and Gary for the replies. I guess, given the fact that as Gary mentioned, there is no "one stop" shop for all the news on EmmaX I'll simply wait until it comes out. As I mentioned, I'm not what I would consider an insider/someone steeped in the long history and strange goings on within the Emma family. . .I simply bought Emma, participated in a few fly-ins and try to fly from there whenever I have the chance. My only interest in EmmaX developement is to see a few screens from time to time just to know it's still alive and then to purchase when it come out if my current PC will still run it. I am financially unable to see a time anymore when running out to upgrade in order to keep up with changes in FS is a possibility. I've moved into the "fixed income" bracket and it doesn't allow for those perks anymore.

Anyway, thanks for the very comprehensive answer Gary, good info.

  17. To be very honest guys, I'm looking for specific news and updates to the actual progress being made by the design team, specific to Emma-X which is what I assumed the "Flabbergasted" post by Franscois was eluding to. I don't get much into the silliness of all the "Fritz" role playing and "Stills blowing up", etc, etc. I guess I'm not much of an Insider in that respect, I never got into that stuff even when I was flying the FS9 version. That isn't to say it doesn't have a place, but I don't find it interesting. As Sgt Friday would say. . ."Just the facts Maam, just the facts". I simply want to know what progress is being made, if there are any progress screen shots to be posted and things of that sort.

Thanks for pointing out the other posts and links though.
