  1. I hooked up with BT and Scottie to do some Multiplayer flying this afternoon and had a pretty nice couple of flights. I had some Team Speak problems unfortunately that kept me off the Comm Freq, but Dobie and Scottie talked me through and with their help and a bit of luck I'm up and running now. Anyway, wanted to post some pics just to show we actually did fly some. The nice part about FSX is that if you don't have the airplanes someone else is flying you can keep from looking at Cessna by changing the player aircraft to something you have. Scottie was flying the Duke (which I don't have), so I changed him over to the Baron. BT was flying the MU-2 (which I do have) but he had a different livery I guess because he still looked like a Cessna, lol, so I switched him to one of my MU-2 liveries and off we went.

Hope to be back online and flying with you guys again soon!!

  2. Gary,

Thanks for the donation suggestion, but I can tell ya that I would never go that route. Many reasons really, not the least of which is that I don't see anything I do as all that great and certainly not worthy of anyone paying anything for them, even in the guise of a donation. I also would never go to anyone for financial assistance, ever. I put myself in this situation and one way or another I will be the one to correct it.

I do appreciate the fact that you would go to the extent of suggesting the many options I could look at, but honestly, I will see this through on my own. The flight sim community is a great melting pot of the human spirit and that in itself is comforting.

    Thanks again.

  3. Thanks for the update in my absence Gary. Aside from messing up my SBuilderX files, my High Speed internet was turned off due to non payment. I'm financially in a real mess right now, so trying to keep my self above water has become priority and trying to remember everywhere I posted info on the Emma download kinda got lost in the shuffle. For now, and probably the foreseeable future, all my sceneries will be posted at SOH.

    Sorry for the confusion guys!

  4. Wow, thanks for posting this Francois. I remember the moniker "gallopinggoose" from other sites and of course Jun's name came up on a few occasions in here in reference to the "Seabee" model he produced. It is always sad to hear of another's passing, especially before his time. I'm quite sure that his spirit will reside on eagles wings as he always imagined it would. Godspeed Jun

  5. I am pretty much available most days from around 8:30am CST to around 2:30pm and again from 7:00pm til whenever for some online flying. I can fly FS9 or FSX and anywhere you want to start off is fine with me. I've been pretty busy doing scenery by request for a few months now and I'm taking some time here and there to actually "fly", lol.

Anyone interested, post here or send a PM and I'll get with you on time and place.

  6. An AFCAD isn't a requirement to enjoy the EMMA experience. Actually I prefer not seeing the yellow taxi lines and I don't need AI traffic at EMMA. Looks and works

    great without it.

No problem really. The AFCAD did not contain AI traffic. I don't do AI. It only contained hardened taxiways and parking ramps and of course gives the ability to show in the GPS or if you use Flight planner. Without the AFCAD, Emma won't show on any map.

  7. Makes you wonder though.... if only 150 people download the FREE version....... hmmmm....

No, there have been 310 downloads of the free version Francois. I mistakenly forgot to include the AFCAD with the initial posting and so I went back and added the AFCAD as an extra download. It's that file that only 150 have downloaded.

  8. To all Emmaites everywhere, I hope that this day finds you relaxing with family or friends or any combination in between. For those folks who live far beyond the influence of turkey day I still hope you find a reason every day to be thankful for what you have in whatever form that may manifest itself. The current world economy and certainly the US economy can make you wonder sometimes what there is to be thankful for, but then I can pick up a newspaper or see the headlines on MSN.com and realize that I really do have reason to be thankful. . .there are many who do not and I pray that things improve for all those souls.

Enjoy the day, however you choose and I will raise a glass (or bottle) to each and every one. Cheers Mates!!

  9. Like Francois, I have to say that flying in and out of Emma does not require ATC. It's a pretty laid back Air Field and unaccustomed to the sounds of tensed up controllers issuing terse commands to the likes of seasoned bush pilots and casual GA flyers.

I know VATSIM is a well established and apparently popular venue for the ATC junky, but I also discovered first hand that as a general rule, they have little time for the novice ATC'er. Their attitude is more. . ."find a spot on the ramp away from the general traffic, be quiet, listen and learn". If you've simply been away from using ATC and are just looking to scrape the rust off your vocabulary, then they are tolerant, but if you've never been exposed to true ATC before then it can be quite perplexing and they seem to have little time for anyone who doesn't "get it".

  10. Here's a quick rundown of the utilities I use:

SBuilderX - Let's me capture and compile satellite imagery, plus manufacture a whole host of poly driven effects

AFX (payware), this basically the FSX equivalent to Lee Swody's AFCAD program

Autogen Annotator (found in the FSX SDK) for placing autogen over photo imagery

TCalcX - calculates exact ground elevations for setting rwy's and poly's to correct levels.

Paint Shop Pro 8 (payware) for thousands of retouching and manipulating projects.

  11. Jeff,

I did look at moving it a bit more to the east, but the terrain begins a steady descent to the river from there and it would have eliminated the glider area. I'll experiment with some other surfaces for the rwy and ramp area and see what they look like. Unfortunately, there's no way from within AFX to really "age" anything, so no matter what I change it to, it's going to look "new and fresh" not weather worn or aged. That's one of those tricks I'd love to learn how to do.

  12. Ok Jeff,

Here is what the ramp and taxiway looks like with the AFX style poly's in place:

    ScreenHunter_02Nov040937.jpg

Like I said, I wanted to be able to harden those areas without using the polys produced in FSX, but I have no idea how that's done, so this is what we have in the meantime.

  13. Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the response. Good observations by the way:

    A) I actually don't remember the power lines even being in the scenery in FS9, so this threw a kink into my plans actually. No matter where I moved the rwy, those power lines were going to cut through the property at some point. I would have had to move the entire airport west. Visualize the hangar for the gliders being west of the power lines and that gives you some idea of how far I would have had to move everything to get away from them. It wasn't worth messing with since this is just a temporary fix for the real thing.

    B) The rwy and taxiway surfaces should definitely be the same. I was hoping I could figure out how to harden those surfaces without using the AFCAD poly's that are generated with AFX. Since I couldn't and felt that at the very least the rwy should be a hardened surface, I wasn't too concerned with the ramp or taxiway. I will produce a hardened surface to replace the areas in question though and see how that looks.

    C) The access road was an afterthought really. I wasn't even going to put that in, but decided at the last minute to do so and since no one was probably actually going to use it, I didn't bother with it beyond it's placement. I can say though that in mine the road is fine as the flatten extends far enough to cover the roadway. Not sure why yours is not the same.

    D) The Clubhouse was going to be a problem from the very start because I knew there was nothing available that was going to come close to looking like the original and I don't have a very good grasp of GMAX or FSDS so I took what I had and used it. Again, this is temporary until the real deal hits.

  14. Thanks Dex,

The download numbers have now hit above 230 downloads. It sure would be nice to hear from some of those folks as well, just so I have some idea of whether or not it's working on different systems and what problems, if any, they're running into. I'm going to continue to tweak it for myself and fly on the Emma Server in case anyone else happens to still be flying online. Thanks for your response and glad it's working for you. :)

  15. Hi Phil,

Good to see you stopping by. If you want, I have posted a version of Emma Field for FSX here in the forum. There are two links and information about how to install in the readme. I figured I'd do something in the interim to give folks a place to hang out if they want to.

Anyway, great to see you on here and take care.
