  1. I might be mistaken, but it looks like the man our beloved "Fritz" character was modeled after by LAGO, Fritz Reinhold ("pivo11") appears on Dutch TV :!:

    http://www.fsweekend.com/

In a video of the FSweekend 2009, at 1 minute 15 seconds from (auto-play) start, it appears he's in the background, nodding, with his cap and glasses on.

Could it be we are in the company of yet another "international FS celebrity" ? :P

  2. "FS-Insider" Bill Leaming (n4gix) posted an interesting statement on Flight ! here :

    http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21066

"I cannot tell you what the end result will look and feel like for what should be obvious reasons, however I can say that it will "look and feel" and "be nearly as open and extensible" as we've been used to. The "mistakes" made with FSX will not be repeated... "

    [EDITED]

More from Bill Leaming on Flight ! :

"FS Flight is being built from an already tried and tested codebase, with all the "legacy crap" removed to allow them to move forward into this century... "

  3. Uh-Oh... Wabbit's gonna' need a "wepaint" of the HU-16 Albatross in a "Global Wildlife Conservancy" livery (from "The Expendables" movie)

Reportedly this will be needed for when he begins his "missions" at Andras Field... defending his furry brethren there:

    SEE: rabbits... rabbits...

Any generous livery contributions to this worthy (humanitarian ?) cause would be greatly appreciated for a FS9-to-FSX freeware port:

(ex: "FSX Grumman HU16 Albatross. This is a model of Greg Pepper and Micheal Verlin's Grumman HU-16 Albatross. Originally built for FS2004, it has been reworked to fly in FSX SP1; not tested in SP2. The 2D dash does not work in it. but the VC is fully functional. Other problems still need to be fixed such as the lights do not come down out of the wings. Mods by David Poulin.")

---or the recent Alphasim FSX payware model of the fabulous Grumman HU-16 Albatross amphibian. :)

Wabbit just wouldn't look good in screenies doing strafing runs at Andras if his plane weren't spiffed up in such an appropriate livery. :P

  4. Dillon posted this heads up:

    viewtopic.php?f=53&t=81313

Looks like a successful implementation of DX-10 (and maybe DX-11) judging by water wave action and bloom lighting in the sky !

Hmmm... "Games For Windows Live" could mean both XBOX and PC platform releases might become available ? :P

    Thanks Dillon ! 8)

    [EDITED_AGAIN]

Oh, and we mustn't overlook the rapidly expanding AVSIM thread (can't wait to see how long that thread becomes ! ):

    http://forum.avsim.net/topic/293270-newannoucned/

Some very well-considered points on pages 1-3 already, particularly those by Greg Germanowski.

I think that omitting "simulator" from the title is OK, FS really needed to attract even more newcomers to keep the community alive and thriving for more than 10 years, and to make the FS add-on business even more robust during that time as well.

I must admit years ago before I knew much about FS, I (also ?) had this thought in the back of my naive newcomer's mind:

"Hmmm... a simulator ? That might have a demanding learning curve; at the present moment, I'd just like to hop in a plane and fly in some gorgeous scenery, or in an ultralight between the buildings along the Chicago river. Maybe I'll check back on this title sometime later after I have a better computer/more time/more patience/etc."

Well, I did check back later on flight simulation, but it was in the form of Flight Unlimited II and III (FU2, FU3)...to experience the Lake Amphibian Renegade... and because FU3 looked simple enough to just hop in and fly immediately !

Flight Unlimited as a title seemed more attractive/less intimidating to me than Flight Simulator at that time.

But as I see it, there could always be an advanced mode or extension of the "MS Flight" base platform for those of us who want more of a full simulation experience, with all the options we now have... and perhaps even more ! :D

IMHO, if even more people are attracted to the experience of MS Flight on all levels of simplicity (or optional complexity) upon discovering a title that appears more "user friendly", I'd say it's OK for MS to adopt that marketing approach, as it might do a lot to build the size of the "FS Community" even more; I believe that could be a good thing for everyone if 3rd party SDK licensing and fees were not too prohibitive.

  5. Rather "extreme reverse side-slip on bank" that Red Bull stunt pilot did... or maybe it all happened in the film editors booth !

My guess is they got the best side-lit definition on Statham's muscles from port side, and CGI/continuity goofed on flare trajectory.

This film was great fun though, regardless of the incongruities. :D

  6. Hi All:

I just saw "The Expendables", and enjoyed a 'wild ride' in the fabulous Grumman HU-16 Albatross as well as some bigger than life macho adrenaline action with a virtual class reunion of most major big name action stars. :P :!:

Apparently the stunt pilot was the guy who flies the Albatross for Red Bull.

  7. Meanwhile, back at good ol' Emma Field, Uncle Elmer and Wabbit thought they'd consult with Sgt. Schultz, expecting to get some 'insider information' about the history of "Andras Field".

Not having watched "Hogan's Heroes" in a very long time, they weren't quite prepared for his standard reply !

  8. In an effort to keep errant EFFC flyers from being spirited off to "Andras Field" and other European destinations (lured by diverse "cheezy comestibles" and other fine treats catering to the penchants and peccadilloes of "esurient aviators"), Fritz attempts to make "Jammie Dodgers" during the "Baking" course in his Seattle Community College "Learning-At-Home via Satellite TV" Gourmet Chef Curriculum.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jammie_Dodgers

Somewhere between interpreting "tads and smidgens" as units of measure, his recipe ended up a bit "out of proportion" !

Oh, and he used Strawberry rather than Plum filling, so as to perpetuate cravings of airborne perpetrators for "flying 'round the Plum" ! 8)

  9. When Fritz woke up from his nap around lunchtime (all tired out from just thinking of how to eliminate the mess), he was amazed to find the "Pups Piles" had simply VANISHED !

Our scientifically trained Pups had indeed fooled us all with a bit of wizardry he learned from mischievous classmates at the University in Winnipeg, watching "Myth Busters" on TV, and tending Bar at Emma Field.

Using a pile of leftover fermented mash from Uncle Elmers ever-expanding Old #5 Moonshine firm, Pups added Diet Coke and Mentos candy, making an ever-expanding 'brownian movement' to perform his aerial dispersion of Super Dense Polyfoam Spray ("SDPS"), thereby creating his recycled "Green" contribution of fertilizer for Fritz' KEWL grassroots grounds-keeping operation.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diet_Coke_s_eruption

Hmmm... no wonder the initial aerial evacuation was subsequently canceled when they realized Pups "dog" droppings smelled suspiciously like grain, yeast, alcohol, peppermint, and cola ...rather than as anticipated.

That Skinny Puppy (aka "Pups" -alias "Larry") again did as he has done... expanded our knowledge and "enriched" our Emma Field experience in a hilarious way... then disappeared. :!:

Pups, if you're still out there, know that we all miss you, and hope you'll come back again soon; after completing your 'tour of doody' in "Gradual School", we'll need a resident "Quantum Mechanic" on duty... and as a Physicist, you can provide us with another "Fizz Assist" experience every Spring ! :P

  10. Hmmm... "SDPS" ?

Lemmesee... OK, I'll vote for: "Service Delivery Perception Survey"

    http://www.acronymattic.com/SDPS.html

(...or was that: "Serially-Dependent Production System" ) :?:

    http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/SDPS

BTW: We're only seeing things "on end"; Top-Down view reveals the full message our 'Skinny Little Puppy' so artfully sent to his beloved Emma:

So, just as CBris has "Skywriting"... Pups has, uhm... "Groundwriting"

  11. Pups, now both long in the tooth and long missing in action, makes a brief "contribution" to the "greens-keeping" efforts at Emma Field.

The next morning, Fritz realized the promised efforts to fertilize the grass via "aerial dispersion" ...led instead to an "aerial evacuation" !

Oops, I see now that Brad wrote CROP Circle (not cr*p circle). :P

  12. Hi Pitt:

I've been overwhelmingly busy in the office all week long, and just now am able to catch up on what 's happening here at the EFFC. :)

It looks like you've got your new system up and running, so I'll point you to some concise info on setting up for flying via Multi-Player (MP) and TeamSpeak (TS) on the FSAddon server (...graciously provided courtesy of Francois; please consider contributing to help defray his server expenses when you are able).

FYI: FS2002 (FS8), FS2004 (FS9), and FSX MP flyers can all see each other on the MP server; FS8 and FS9 do so via their 'built-in' MP functions.

FSX MP flyers can login to the server on the same port numbers as FS8+FS9 via FSHostClient, eliminating need for use of GameSpy software functions.

TS of course is a separate software session running concurrent with any MP sessions, and requires a separate login on different port numbers.

First, a quick stop at the "official" info provided by Francois:

    http://www.fsaddon.com/multiplayer-services.htm

    viewtopic.php?f=19&t=18046

...Then the links to the MP and TS info courtesy of the EFFC members (BTW: Chaders is rather knowledgeable in all this as well !)

    viewtopic.php?f=19&t=78111

Generally, the server is not very busy, and I understand that there is usually some friendly fellows flying nearly every day between 7:00 P.M. and 12 Midnight UK time (IIRC that's 17:00 to 00:00 hrs. ZULU / UTC /GMT).

You'll want to recall who it is that has always been the gate keeper around here, as you may need that info at a crucial juncture ! :P

Remember that the MP server ports allow one to see the other players aircraft; TeamSpeak is for voice communications (requires a headset with microphone or 'good' webcam microphone) and is highly recommended... as many MP flyers don't want the inconvenience of interacting via chat box typing while flying.

You may occasionally want to do some private communication via an open (or password limited) Temporary sub-channel while on the EFFC default port #8881 or the alternate channel #8883, or even the recently 'unused' Misty Fiords "default" TS port #8767.

To do this in TS:

1.) On the TS pull-down menu, click Channels > Create Channel

2.) Type in a Name (ex: preferred flying route du jour as ICAO start and end points, "Private", "Conference", or whatever suits your fancy

3.) Under Codec, choose "Speex 12.3 Kbit" to match the audio quality of the main parent TS channel (or the audio goes from bad to worse within minutes)

4.) If desired, pick a password to limit access to a party you have previously given the PW to if you for any reason need / want some private talk time.

    5.) Click "Create Channel"

You should now be in a private session !

NOTE: If you leave the channel and no one else is in that newly created sub-channel when you pop out to the main channel or log off for any reason (ex: once in a great while TS crashes you out), the private channel is terminated and one would have to re-create it.

To enter your channel, one double-clicks the Channel name in TS' main dialog (if channel is password protected, a password prompt pops up).

PS: Perhaps some time we'll have a chance to meet online... flying the friendly skies around Emma Field ! 8)

    Hope this helps ! :D

  13. Caught Fritz mowing at Emma just before lunchtime (11:53).

Hello Captain, and good to see you back around Emma Field again ! :)

Thanks for sharing a reassuring "heads up" that Fritz does indeed eventually get around to his assigned duties at KEWL... even if it is a Monday morning!

BTW: I stumbled across this interesting web site yesterday, and thought I'd mention it here, especially since it then clicked with what I recalled seeing in your forum signature (and your location): "A shower of spray and we're away."

    Amphibians era 1955-89 (Don Armitage):

    http://sites.google.com/a/aotea.org/donra-1955-89

What a great tale of the outstanding role played by amphibian aircraft... especially the fabulous Grumman Widgeon ! :!:

The Grumman Widgeon is one of my favorite aircraft in FS; I'd be remiss if I didn't hint that there may soon be surprises forthcoming in the KEWL area near Lilliwaup involving that aircraft, and of course... a bit of magic and mischief !

    GaryGB

  14. Thanks for the replies, guys !

What with Fritz becoming so versatile working on mechanical things, maybe he'll begin offering service and "customization" for other constant gardeners and fellow 'groundskeepers' mowers and related equipment.

He could also offer a value added service of custom paint jobs to "pimp out" one's rig (he'll need CBris' skilled repaint services via the "EagleSkinner" Body Shop over at a newly-outfitted Bill+Phil's Valley Field to see that the painting is done "fittin' an' proper"). ;-)

I''ll bet he could even build an online web service catering to "Mower Mania" and have periodic content of interest to the 'Environmental Enthusiast'; maybe Fritz' first: "Terrain Tonsorial Tutorial" (TTT... aka "3T") will become an online literary landmark for the grassroots movement to keep a 'lean mean green machine' ! tongue.gif

Could we yet see a SDK document on implementing this 'in-sim' for the FSX platform: "3T in 3-D for 3PD's" ?

Indeed, we might yet see a new annual event at KEWL by the Experimental Mowing Machine Association ("E.M.M.A.") 'on par for the green' with the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh WI.

Yes, the "E.M.M.A. GroundVenture" could feature various exhibits of comparable import to the avid gardener, and might also have the memorable and much dreamed of "Lawn Mower Races" as a high point to the occasion.

Special guest appearances by community notables could demonstrate "the Sky's the limit" when it comes to excuses for acquiring and tweaking expensive hardware to "Git R' Done", as CBris and Madaz demonstrate 'aerial attack technology' by flying the Eagle and Caribou in spraying missions to eradicate those pesky Moles (and dare I say... Wabbits ? ). laugh.gif

Hmmm... If we could just get some good "Lawn Mower" SimObjects created for FSX, we'll be "off to the races" !
