Hi Pete...

Can you please tell me if a commercial developer obtains a FSUIPC license from you for version 3.x are they required to update their license and/or software to use FSUIPC4. The reason I ask is I'm trying to get a FS9 utility program working under FSX & FSUIPC4 but the app isn't connecting with FS (with FSUIPC4 installed). If I registered my version of FSUIPC4 would this possibly overcome the problem. Thanks for your time.

Regards,

Mark

PS: The FS9 app is FSHotSeat, if this helps.

I'd like them to renew their contract, of course, if they are selling new copies specifically for FSX, but not if it is only a user moving it over. There are no access checks on applications in FSUIPC4.

No, it won't make any difference. I wouldn't know why it isn't connecting from the zero information you've provided, but one possible reason is that it checks the FS version number and doesn't want to work with anything beyond FS9.

If you want me to look at it enable IPC read and write logging in FSUIPC's options. Keep the test short (with no other FSUIPC users please), and show me the resulting Log file.

Does that require access to FS's files as well as an interface through FSUIPC? If so then it is likely that it needs an update. Is there a support forum for it? You should ask there.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your effort, especially with how busy (and tired) you must be with the release of FSUIPC4.

The program reads FS flight plans (although I don't know if it does this directly from the Hard drive or through the program) it also does generic aircraft check lists and things such as turning the plane and setting the radios.

I did have things roughly working initially where FSUIPC would connect with FSHS but kept reporting an invalid flight plan. After some investigation I discovered that the program, when run, would install FSUIPC 3.4 (that came with it) into the FSX\modules folder where FSUIPC4 resides. The FSHotSeat splash screen would report FSUIPC as version 4 but the programs log file said v 3.4. I wonder if maybe MSFS was loading both FSUIPC dll's. When I renamed FSUIPC4 to FSUIPC and replaced v3.4 with it it seemed to copy over and load it ok (stated v4 in the log file) but would not connect with FS.

I did inquire through their tech support. They said that they would review the situation and decide later (after Vista is released) whether they will upgrade/patch the program for FSX. I never realised how much I loved this addon until I upgraded to FSX and lost its use

Thanks again for your offer of help.

If it doesn't use the path in FSUIPC that could go wrong.

FSUIPC wouldn't report anything. I assume you mean HotSeat was reporting that?

FSX plans are in XML. The FS9 version of HotSeat won't like that!

That wouldn't actually matter. You can put DLLs or other files into the Modules folder till you're blue in the face, but only those listed for loading in Simconnect's DLL.XML file will ever get loaded -- except where one of the properly loaded ones loads another, as FSUIPC4 loads GFDev.DLL, EPICINFO5.DLL and PFCFSX.DLL if they are present.

The FSHotSeat splash screen would report FSUIPC as version 4 but the programs log file said v 3.4. I wonder if maybe MSFS was loading both FSUIPC dll's.

No, it won't. No way.

When I renamed FSUIPC4 to FSUIPC and replaced v3.4 with it it seemed to copy over and load it ok (stated v4 in the log file) but would not connect with FS.

If FSUIPC4 isn't actually named FSUIPC4.DLL it won't be loaded by FSX.

sounds like the application is loading the DLL explicitly by filename (which was the default 10 years ago, but no longer is), which would be a problem.

Wonder what else it does that's got better alternatives in the Win32 API.
