Dear Pete,

after using your FSUIPC for long time without any problem, I now ran into trouble.

Yesterday I installed a clean FSX version due to SP1 on a new big Partition and of course deinstalled FSX before.

After installing and patching I installed FSUIPC and the installation went O.K. as the installation log says:

------------------------------------------

Installer for FSUIPC4.DLL version 4.10

Looking in registry for FSX install path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0

Parameter"SetupPath"

SetupPath="H:\FSX_xp\"

Checking version of FSX.EXE:

... Version 10.0.61355.0 (Need at least 10.0.60905.0)

Checking compatibility with installed SimConnect:

... Okay, Probe Manifest matches installed SimConnect SP1 May07

Checking if there's already a version of FSUIPC4 installed in:

H:\FSX_xp\Modules\FSUIPC4.DLL

... Version 4.100 found.

FSX Modules folder already exists.

Okay -- installed FSUIPC4 into "H:\FSX_xp\Modules\FSUIPC4.DLL"

Looking for the current user's Application Data path:

... found as "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\urom\Anwendungsdaten"

Now finding \Microsoft\FSX\FSX.CFG for all users, including this one

Looking in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Administrator\Anwendungsdaten"

No FSX.CFG there

Looking in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten"

No FSX.CFG there

Looking in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Default User\Anwendungsdaten"

No FSX.CFG there

Looking in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\LocalService\Anwendungsdaten"

No FSX.CFG there

Looking in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\NetworkService\Anwendungsdaten"

No FSX.CFG there

Looking in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\urom\Anwendungsdaten"

Found FSX.CFG in "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\urom\Anwendungsdaten\Microsoft\FSX\FSX.CFG"!

Now checking DLL.XML ...

... There is a previous DLL.XML, checking for FSUIPC4 section.

... FSUIPC4 section already exists but will be replaced.

... FSUIPC4 section of DLL.XML written okay

Now checking for a SimConnect.XML file ...

... No SimConnect.XML file found. This is okay.

Now installing additional files into the Modules folder:

Installed "FSUIPC4 User Guide.pdf" okay

Installed "FSUIPC4 for Advanced Users.pdf" okay

Installed "FSUIPC4 History.pdf" okay

Installed "List of FSX controls.pdf" okay

All installer tasks completed okay!

--------------------------------------

But there is no "addons menu" showing up in FSX.

I tried (I hope so) all hints given in this forum, but no success.

I have no 3rd party firewall installed.

FSX is allowed to connect all computers and internet (XP firewall exeptions)

Your software is trusted (in IE7 ...content)

I tried cryptograhic services fix like mentioned in your forum.

I tried to reinstall simconnect via simconnect.msi.

--------------------------------------

simconnect.ini gives this:

0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61242.0

0.24851 DLL Loaded: Path="C:\Programme\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll"

Version="10.0.61355.0"

0.25366 DLL Loaded: Path="C:\Programme\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\Special Effects

SDK\visualfxtool.dll" Version="10.0.61355.0"

0.25786 DLL Failed to load. Check for missing dependencies.

0.25787 DLL Load Failed: Error=-3 Path="Modules\FSUIPC4.dll"

--------------------------------------

I am close to an complete reinstall of OS and FSX if their is no solution in sight.

So I am asking if you have any further idea of fixing this with out a complete reinstall.

If not, I know what to do on weekend :-)

kind regards

Ulrich Romanski

After installing and patching I installed FSUIPC and the installation went O.K. as the installation log says

Was there no FSUIPC4.LOG produced?

0.00000 SimConnect version 10.0.61242.0

0.24851 DLL Loaded: Path="C:\Programme\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Mission Creation Kit\object_placement.dll"

0.25786 DLL Failed to load. Check for missing dependencies.

0.25787 DLL Load Failed: Error=-3 Path="Modules\FSUIPC4.dll"

Hmmm. Strange. I'm not sure what Error -3 is. I'll have to ask Microsoft. I'm doing so right now ...

sorry, but no FSUIPC4.log in the modules directory.

There wouldn't be if FSUIPC4 wasn't even loaded.

The only dependencies are the original release version of SimConnect (60905) and the same C run-time library which FSX itself needs in any case.

So it sounds like the new SP1 version of SimConnect installed okay, but when you re-installed FSX the original SimConnect wasn't installed correctly -- one of the usual problems several have had in the past.

Please see the FSX Help announcement, above. Try re-installing the original SimConnect by deleting the relevant folder (the 60905 one, not the new 61242 one for SP1) and either repairing from the FSX DVD1 or finding the original SimConnect.msi from the DVD's SDK folder and running that.

I'm afraid there's no way around this. If I build FSUIPC to only load with the SP1 SimConnect it won't load on non-updated versions. FSX is supposed to support ALL versions of SimConnect, but the only one guaranteed to be supported on any particular system is the original, the 60905 build. So FSUIPC4 expects to be loaded by that. When it is actually loaded and running it finds the latest one it can deal with and links to it.

This is the way the Windows side-by-side installation system is supposed to be used.

[LATER]

I'm thinking that possibly I can check for this problem in the Installer. It wouldn't solve the problem, but it would stop FSUIPC4 installing into a system where it wouldn't get loaded anyway, and give a proper error message.

Regards

Pete

Just to verify that my diagnosis is correct (before rushing to try fixing it), could you please download the 4.101 version of the Installer package I've now uploaded (see the FSX downloads Announcement). If the 60905 build isn't available this will say so, with an error. The install log will list those builds of SimConnect it does recognise, but it won't install unless the needed base version is correctly installed.

Let me know please. If this doesn't show me what I expect it to show, we need to look elsewhere.

Hello Pete,

I am happy again :-)

I installed version 4.101 - no error reporting.

simconnect.ini reports same as above.

I deinstalled:

simconnect client 10.0.60905.0

simconnect client 10.0.61355.0 (fsx-sp1.20070510-2038)

FSX SDK original

FSX SDK SP1

Then:

did a reboot.

installed SDK from original DVD.

installed original simconnect.msi

run FSX, menu is back again.

I thank you for your outstanding and fast support.

you made my day :D

and my weekend of course :D

kind regards

Hello Pete,

I installed version 4.101 - no error reporting.

That really has me puzzled. I would have liked to see the Install Log for thatbut I see it is too late now! :-(

I will have to wait for someone else with the same problem now, to see why. :-(

run FSX, menu is back again.

Can you please let me see the FSUIPC4.LOG? I'd like to know what SimConnect it thinks it is using.

Thanks.

Have to report a similar problem in that WITH SimConnect I have no add-ons menu option

...

WITHOUT the add-ons menu appears OK.

Sorry, you do not make any sense I'm afraid. What do you mean "with Simconnect"? You cannot actually run FSX without Simconnect! It is a component part of FSX. So what do you mean by "with Simconnect"?

And then you make more confusion, I'm afraid, when you say "WITHOUT the add-ons menu appears OK." -- Surely you cannot really mean that without the add-ons menu the add-ons menu appears? What does that mean?

What is actually IN this Add-Ons menu which you say you are without??

Please, do read your message again, and look at your pictures, and tell me what they could possibly mean. They simply self contradict each other, twice!

Meanwhile, these Log entries show that either Simconnect is not properly installed, or that it is being blocked by some security program -- a firewall or virus checker or similar.

3182 Failed on SimConnect_Open, return = 0x80004005: FSUIPC4 cannot operate!

You might like to review all of the previous threads about this. There is also a piece about it on the Microsoft FSInsider website, and some warnings in my own READ ME, installed in your FSX Moduiles folder.

Also check the FSX Help announcement, above, which tells you how to repair SimConnect, and also how to get a Simconnect log file, which may be needed whenv reporting this to Microsoft Support.

Hello Pete

I can report that I have encountered the same problem outlined at the start of this threadclean install of FSX, update to SP1, reinstall of FSUIPC (4.10) and no task bar heading for add ons. I note that you are interested in testing your theory as to what might be happening here. I am happy to provide the information you seek. So, please let me know what steps I should take - and the logs you would like posted.

I note that you are interested in testing your theory as to what might be happening here. I am happy to provide the information you seek. So, please let me know what steps I should take - and the logs you would like posted.

I assume, because you haven't supplied it, that you aren't getting an FSUIPC4.LOG file produced in the FSX Modules folder?

If you are, then that's the first place to check. It may indicate a firewall or other similar problem, or a problem only with the SP1 install of Simconnect.

If you aren't getting a Log, then FSUIPC4 simply is not being loaded. In this case it looks very much like the "usual" problem -- SimConnect just hasn't installed correctly.

I say "usual", but in actual fact, although it seems to be the commonest SimConnect problem, it doesn't seem to affect a very significant proportion of folks. This is probably why it still isn't fixed -- I have never been able to reproduce it on any of 4 different systems, and neither has MS.

The steps you can take are:

1. First get a SimConnect log, as described in the FSX help announcement.

2. Then try repairing SimConnect, also as described in the FSX help announcement.

Note that the latter only repairs the original SimConnect, but this is the one used to load FSUIPC4 and run it. If the SP1 version of SimConnect is broken, that may allow FSUIPC4 to load, but then fail -- the FSUIPC4.LOG would show that.

At present I am not sure how you would go about repairing an SP1 installation. Just uninstalling it and re-installing it doesn't help with the Windows Side-by-Side installs. I suspect you'd need to delete the second SimConnect WinSxS folder as well as the one mentioned in FSX Help. I'm awaiting advice on this from MS.

Pete

Hi Pete

As you suspected, there was no FSUIPC4.log for me to find in the modules folder. So, acting on the advice in your various stickies on the forum, i did the following:

1. Deleted the original sim connect folder (but left intact the SPI version).

2. Ran the repair utility from the FSX disk.

3. Booted FSX - found add ons menu had returned.

4. Registered FSUIPC4

Okay. Good. In that case the original SimConnect (not the SP1 version) was broken, and you fixed it.

What I cannot tell is if the repair function unwound some of the improvements generated by SP1. Will find out in due course.

It shouldn't, according to other wise folks who have told me that it won't undo the new additions, only replace missing parts or any looking older than they should. But do get back and tell me if you find anything wrong. If so I'll need to get advice on how to repair things safely with SP1 installed.

At least the newer (SP1) version of SimConnect is still okay, and working, as these lines in the Log show:

Hi Pete - I MUST apologise for yesterday - trying to sort out my problem whilst suffering a migraine is not recommended. When EVERYTHING I wrote became unitelligible I realised I'd best just delete everything and retire hurt to my bed.

Anyway I started today early (having slept most of yesterday afternoon and evening) on the quest to sort my FSX out.

This is my installation - running FSX on Vista business 32 bit (server) networked to a WInXP (Client) machine using a Netgear DG834 Firewall router. I can confirm that SimConnect is working correctly as the 3rd party program I'm testing is connected and fully functional over the network with FSX.

Here's what I have done so far:

1. Re-installed SimConnect & run the repair utility in FSX.

2. Switched off my anti-virus program

3. Installed FSUIPC 4.1.0.3

Sadly still no Add ons menu.

Having said all of the above - clearly this is NOT a problem with FSUIPC - so I'm sorry (again) to have troubled you about it Pete.

I've got myself sorted out by installing 3rd party program on my Vista machine and removing the offending SimConnect.xml file - now of course EVERYTHING works. Still strange though

Easy. The XML file stops SimConnect service altogether on the FSX PC, and only supports remote PCs.

You need to retain the XML file exactly as supplied and ADD a new section for your remote connection. The part from to <\SimConnect.Comm> needs to be intact, as it was. Add another copy to modify for your remote use.

Actually, I also thought that this local had to be changed to global for a remote connection? Do you find your remote application works with that set to "local" still?

If you had set it to "Global" then installing FSUIPC4 (using my installer) would have actually fixed your XML file for you, as it looks for a "local" section and if it isn't present it adds one for you. If keeping "local" in works for remote clients, then it seems I'll have to make even more checks in the InstallerPlease let me know!

Regards

Pete

I'm still complaining to MS about this misleading part of the documentation.

Pete

Thanks Pete - at least I now know (sort of  ) how to get myself sorted out. Much appreciated.
