FSX-SE, cannot get FSUIPC to work

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have been attempting to install FSUIPC into FSX-SE for more than two hours now and I just can't get it working. Basically, the following error message appears every time I attempt to start the sim:

KZmZflx.jpg

When "yes" is selected the sim crashes almost instantly.

What I have checked so far:

- FSXSE and P3DV2 are installed, but not the boxed version of FSX.

- the registry has the following entries for FSX: (AppPath is correct)

dRdbQvz.jpg

- The FSUIPC.dll is installed correctly into the FSX/modules folder.

- The DLL.XML in AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX-SE has the correct entry for FSUIPC:

Kp1NKGE.jpg

I have a registered/paid version of FSUIPC if that makes a difference.

Here is the installer log file for FSUIPC (username edited out):

What I have tried so far:

- deleted all FSUIPC files in FSX/modules

- deleted the entire FSX and FSX-SE folders in AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/

- ran FSX-SE to re-create the FSX-SE folder

- installed FSUIPC (antivirus off, ran the installer "as admin")

- started FSX-SE again

which, unfortunately, does not work either. I simply don't understand why it doesn't work as everything seems to be installed correctly.

If anyone has an idea what could be wrong here, please let me know... any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Steve

Something is not installed correctly. Have youbeen trying to use any migration tools? The first clue was that you posted a file called::

fsuipc4.fsx.log

which would not normally exist -- the file should be just fsuipc4.log. The inserted "fsx" part implies that the EXE file is NOT what was expected, but a renamed EXE -- renamed FSX.EXE.

Looking into that log it seems that FSUIPC4 thinks it is running inside Prepar3D:

********* FSUIPC4, Version 4.938a by Pete Dowson *********

Running inside Prepar3D v2 on Windows 7

... Prepar3D has been renamed as "fsx"

Module base=5F990000

User Name=""

User Addr=""

FSUIPC4 not user registered

WIDEFS7 not user registered, or expired

       31 System time = 28/12/2014 23:02:45

       31 FLT path = "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files\"

       31 Trying D:\Programme\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\Modules\SimConnectP3D2.dll

62 Trying to connect to SimConnect Steam ...

       62 FS path = "D:\Programme\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\"

This mixup is very very weird. FSUIPC4 will certainly crash because it thinks it is running in P3Dv2 whereas it is running in FSX-SE.

So, I examined the Install log. Look at this:

Looking in registry for FSX install path:

     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0

     Parameter"SetupPath"

... >>>  OK! FOUND FSX!  <<< ...

     SetupPath=D:\Programme\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\

Looking in registry for FSX-SE install path:

     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator - Steam Edition\10.0

     Parameter"SetupPath"

Not there, so looking in:

     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator - Steam Edition\10.0

     Parameter"AppPath"

... >>>  OK! FOUND FSX-SE!  <<< ...

     AppPath=D:\Programme\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\

So, it looks like the cause of the problem is that you have the Steam version's path registered for both FSX and FSX-SE.  In fact, the Installer did not install anything into your FSX folder at all, despite you saying that was okay. I suspect that' was installed earlier.

Reading further, you say:

What I have tried so far:

- deleted all FSUIPC files in FSX/modules

which cannot ever make any difference to the Installer.

- deleted the entire FSX and FSX-SE folders in AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/

- ran FSX-SE to re-create the FSX-SE folder

Ouch ouch big ouch!

If this was done BEFORE the logs you show above, then what you have done is screw up the Registry data. If the FSX-SE installer thinks you don't already have FSX installed (and you've effectively told it that by deleting relevant folders), then it installs in such a way as to try to look like FSX normal. But your Registry also still points to FSX-SE as FSX-SE.

So, I can see why my FSUIPC4 installer installs into FSX-SE twice, and not into FSX at all. But currently I'm not sure why then it things it is running in P3DV2. But it will be related.

I'll look to see if I can work that one out, as soon as i've caught up with my holiday support backload, but meanwhile I think you need to sort something out -- that is if you want to retain your FSX installation which is no longer being recognised.

[LATER]
As far as I can see, the only way FSUIPC4 can make the decision that it must be a Prepar3D folder is that the FSX-SE FSX folder also contains a file called "Prepar3D.EXE".  It deduces it must be Prepar3Dv2 because of the much higher version number. The fact that it is running inside an fSX.EXE leads it to deduce that, for migration purposes, you are running under a renamed version of Prepar3D.exe.

So, can you check? Why would such an EXE be there? If it is, the fix for getting FSUIPC4 working in FSX-SE is simply to delete the unwanted Prepar3D.EXE file.

First of all, let me say thank you to everyone who invests his time and efforts in making these add-ons. Very much appreciated :)

Now, down to business lol.

I have purchased the Steam Edition of FSX yesterday and am interested in downloading FSUIPC. But I have a hard time figuring out what exact files to download. I have no previous version of FSUIPC or FSX, so I understand I should download version 4.938, correct?

Oh... as I type this I read that the 4.938 version is behind the 4.937 link :) Well, I guess this is just a sophisticated thanks note then ;)
