  1. Pete Thanks - The only reason I had 6 trusted FSUIPC4.dll entries is that I had rebuilt the fsx.cfg file a couple of weeks or so ago. Great program and support as ever. Regards PeterH
  2. Pete Just a question. When I add a an updated FSUIPC4.dll (latest 4.456) to the modules folder, on opening FSX I am asked to "trust" FSUIPC4 and I get an entry added to the "trusted" section of the fsx.cfg file. Over time quite a few entries for FSUIPC4.dll are added to the cfg file. I now have 6 in mine, so my questions are: 1) Can we safely remove the "old" entries and just leave the latest? 2) Does it really matter if they are left in the cfg file? (This is an example of the entry I am talking about: C:\...\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules\FSUIPC4.dll.rhowrturiobwllnuruczukcincqlinlibhtniuac=1) Obviously if you rebuild the cfg file only there is only one entry for FSUIPC4. Thanks PeterH
  3. Janet I use winzip 12.0 and it opens the FSUIPC.zip file with no issues. You may want to download again just to make sure that your dl is not corrupt. You can dl ver 3.90 from here http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html and it should be 3.14 Mb in size. Unzip and install as per PeteD's instructions. You then dl PeteD's update 3.921 after ver 3.90 is installed. Regards PeterH
  4. Adam Are we talking about Vista? Have you tried with UAC and Windows Defender and your AV software temporarily disabled? A lot of issues with getting software to run in Vista is making sure that you have set the correct permissions and sharing for your files and folders. Just a couple of points: 1. What permissions do you have set the whole FSX folder (or even the Program Files (X86) wrt to yourself. Make sure that you are the owner of the folder(s) (incl any sub-folder(s)) and have full access. (Google Vista permissions to see what I mean.) 2. Just check that you have allowed full sharing on these folders and sub-folders. (Google sharing) Disabling UAC and running as administrator should clear 1. but you never know with Vista. These may not apply to your problem but they are easy to try until PeteD returns!! regards PeterH
  5. Ponderosa Glad you fixed it - Vista is very similar but at the same time totally different to XP!! :D Regards PeterH
  6. Ponderosa in Vista - Right click on the desktop and choose "Personalize" then choose "windows Color and Appearance" this will show as "Appearance Settings" choose "Effects" and you can then see whether "the Show windows contents while dragging" is selected or not. Or in the "Start Search" Box type "personalization" and proceed as above. (its in the same areas as it was in XP except in In XP you would right click on the desktop and choose "prperties" and so on.) Regards PeterH
  7. Pete & Goofy A few thoughts: Are you running Vista 32 or 64 with SP1 and SP2? Has the installation been tried in safe mode (+UAC disabled for the install)? Just a suggestion: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/290301 Otherwise the Vista install may have been corrupted? Regards PeterH I concur that installing FSUPC 3 snd FSUIPC4 on a Vista (64) OS install without incident.
  8. Hi Pete Thanks for the replies. Regards PeterH
  9. Hi Pete Preamble: I am using ver 4.517 of FSUIIPC4. Initially I installed ver 4.5 and from that in my \FSX\modules folder I have a "FSUIPC 4 User Guide.pdf" dated 27/02/2009. Is this the latest version of the manual or have I missed something when I installed ver 4.5? In the manual (if this is the latest version) on Page 42 under Axis assignments: In a boxed section pertaining to the steering you say, ". . . FSX does provide a steering axis (which when I have tested I will be adding to the calibration possibilities in FSUIPC4)." Is there anymore testing to be done on this function as it appears as a calibration function in FSUIPC4 (and it works very well indeed)? You also say that "The FSX offering may well make the FSUIPC4 tiller provisions redundant, . . ." I have a CH Eclipse Yoke and CH pedals. The yoke also now features a set of "paddles" which I use to steer the plane whilst taxiing and the only way that I can set the Paddles to "steer" the plane whilst on the ground and then disengage say at 60 knots for the rudder pedals to "take-over" is via FSUIPC4. There doesn't seem to be any way this can be achieved either via CHCM or FSX unless I am missing something. So I am just saying that this is such a very useful setting to have in FSUIPC4, and by implication FSX cannot make it "redundant". One last question: When using "MaxSteerSpeed=60" say for small GA aircraft is the "60knot" changeover a realistic speed for the rudder pedals to kick in or would it be better to lower this to say "40 knots". Any Comments or suggestions from real world pilots? (I note that you say that this parameter could vary for different aircraft.) Thanks again for adding a fantastic function like this to FSUIPC4. Regards PeterH
  10. Pete Thank you. My error I was looking in an old set of back up files. Regards PeterH
  11. Hi Pete On the new CH Eclipse Yoke there are now 2 "trim wheels", one vertically (elevator) and one horizontally aileron). In FSX (and FSUIPC4) these are seen as "buttons" ie on the vertical one turning the wheel up gives one button number eg 18 and turning it down gives another eg 19. This is the same for right and left on the horizontal button eg 16 and 17. In FSUIPC4 I have set the vertical trim wheel to elevator trim up and down but for better control I use the excellent "Offset SWord Increment" entering x0BC0,into the offset edit box, and using 256/16383 (increm) and 256/-16383 (dec) in the appropriate parameter box. My question is: Is there a similar offset so that I can control the aileron trim in the same precise fashion. I looked in the SDK documents but could not find a reference to aileron trim control input ie similar to elevator trim control input. (Note: I apologise if I missed this function the manuals but I could not find any relevant info even after several searches.) Regards PeterH
  12. Bob and Pete The alternative to using CHCM is that you can set up the CH TQ very easily in WINDOWS following this: (Note: This sets reverse thrust in a CH TQ so that RT starts at the detent on the TQ and below to minimum.)Run the CH Control Manager in Direct Mode. Open the Windows calibration tool for your game controllers and choose the CH TQ (Control Panel\Game Controllers\CH TQ\Properties\Settings\Calibrate) This will then give you an extra tab named "THROTTLE SETTINGS" in the WINDOWS calibration screen. This extra tab shows: MinValue = 0; MaxValue= 255; DetentValue = 240 [you set it to 240 to ensure reverse thrust starts exactly at the detent]; DeadZone= 4 If you have two throttles set the "X" axis and the "Y" axis detents at 240. If setting four throttles, you will probably be using the X, Y, and two from the Z, R, U and/or V axes. Setting the detent value at 240 in Windows makes it very easy to set/calibrate RT in FSUIPC4. Regards PeterH
  13. Dave thanks for the follow-up info. Glad that we got it sorted. Regards PeterH :D
  14. Dave Good news!! To be honest I have never seen a FSUIPC FAQ. I've found the best source of info are Pete D's manuals ("normal" and advanced, and the various files that PeteD produces and come wth FSUIPC). Other than that I search these forums to find any info that I might need. PeteD may know of a source of FAQs for his software. Regard PeterH
  15. Hi Dave PeteD's away at present, but we might need a bit more info before we can help you. OS version + sp's eg WINXP SP3 FS9 + SP1? or FSX + SP1 + SP2 Version of FSUIPC you are running. (must be exact - PeteD will only help with latest version installed) Type of game controllers (throttles, yokes, etc) you have, and any software you have installed for them. If you have changed any of your USB connections since your layoff then the chances are that the flight sim has reset everything to the default settings. Regards PeterH
  16. Alan have you tried "Voice Buddy" ? http://www.edimensional.com/index.php?cPath=23 This may be useful Regards PeterH
  17. Marc Pete Dowson (the resident expert in FSUIPC) is away until Oct 1st. I don't know anything about sqawkbox but is it worth posting on their forums untile Pete gets back? Sorry I can't help PeterH
  18. Pete Thanks for that you were right. I always unzip (with WINZIP) any zip files before I install them and I could not see the advanced user guide in the unzipped files and I forgot to look in the FSX|Modules folder, I hadn't realised that your installer installed the advanced users manual. Here is a picture of the FSUIPC4.zip ver 4.3 opened with WINZIP: My apologies Thanks PeterH
  19. Pete I may have got this wrong, but here goes. It might be worth pointing out that my "idiot's guide" is only available in the latest FSUIPC for Advanced Users ie the guide (dated 16/07/2008) for FS9/FS2004. The latest version of the same manual for FSX ie, "FSUIPC4 for Advanced Users" is dated 14/02/2008 and that version does not contain the appendix. (there is no advanced user version included with the latest 4.30 dl at http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html) The Advance Manual was included with ver 4.28 and that is the one dated 14/02/2008. As the guide applies to both FSX and FS9 it may cause some confusion on how to find it. Hope this helps PeterH
  20. PeteD A post by Bob Church on your forums may throw some light on this issue: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=70574&p=438683#p438683. Bob said: "When FS first starts, it's apparently defaulting everything to zero or whatever. FS has no data until an axis or button on the controller changes value/state and it sends a report. It should only take movement by one control on each controller, and in a lot of cases one of the values will be bobbling (127, 128, 127, 128, .....) anyway and that's enough. You're feet are on the pedals and your hands are on the yoke, it would be very unlikely that they wouldn't move by at least a count. OTOH, with the Quad, if the levers are in the detents they're dead stable because they're in deadzone, and it's likely that the endpoints are stable too so no data goes to FS and you're running on the default value until something moves. The pedals will do that too about half the time if your feet aren't on them." I apologise if this is not a similar issue. Regards PeterH
  21. Mulder One thought did you ever use the CH Control Manager Software? Partcicularly in "mapped" mode, you might have had a button mapped there? If not - just forget this post. PeterH
  22. Pete Just a thought could this be related to my post of a few months ago when I reported: FSUIPC4 "freezes" in FSX Acceleration. You did an awful lot of investiagtions on my behalf but we never did solve the issue. I no longer run FSUIPC (and miss it deperately) due to this issue. Maybe there is alink? Regards PeterH
  23. Bob That's it exactly - thanks for posting! Regards PeterH
  24. Hi Pete It may not be a power issue - I have found with the CH controls (particularly the TQ) that if they are in a certain position when FSX (FS9) starts --(usually at the detent) that they are "not seen" by FSUIPC (3 or 4). That is to say the axis assignment for all the levers on the TQ are "greyed" out, and if you go to calibration, you can't calibrate any TQ lever. As soon as you move any lever slightly they are immediately "recognised" by FSUIPC and everything's fine again. Bob Church offered an explanation (you were away on one of your holidays) which I think is somewhere on this forum. [Edit - just checked - its not here so could be on CH_Hangar] Its a real mystery - one of those flight sim enigmas. This occurs irrespective of using the CHCM software, Assigning axes in the FS, and/or assigning axes only in FSUIPC, and it also affects button assignments (ie you can't assign/change them until you move one of the TQ levers slightly). It also occurs whether you are connected directly to mobo USB or powered hub. It doesn't occur every time that you start the sim. Regards PeterH
  25. Mark It may be worth asking Bob Church on the CH_Hangar Forum in case he has a different take on this problem? Another thing I found every time you add another plane to FSX I had to recalibrate otherwise the controls went haywire!! I've now simplified my flying to using a mixture of FSX and FSUIPC and like you I find everything is easy to calibrate and use. Regards PeterH
