  1. To be honest, I don’t know if the server determines the weather or not?? I’m totally new to being online with FSX.

I know when I used to fly online with FS9, the weather was always set for us, but I don’t know about FSX and what FSHost does or doesn’t do.

This is going to be a learning process for me. :P

The weather pattern that is predefined on the server for any particular session can be set to send those settings to the player when they sign on and also to send the weather info every 15 seconds or more. This applies to both FS2004 and FSX players. The Emma server session may not presently be configured to send weather.

One needs to have "admin" access to the sever via the web login through the server's "Remote Access" settings to alter the weather or other options assigned to the "admin" by the server. These usually include all options save for Starting/Stopping the server or Shutting down the FSHost session.

At present I do not know who has the "admin" password for the Emma Field session.

You may wish to define and post the weather patterns that players should use if this is an issue, that the server does not presently send weather and you wish everyone to fly in a specific type of weather.

The same applies to the date/time as the date/time send function from the server to FSX does not work at present if I recall correctly. FS2004 does have an option to update the sim time to the server time.

  2. Thanks for the quick reply.

The files are as you stated. I just did not readily notice that the files for the Instant Scenery had changed names; hence, my immediate confusion from earlier versions.

Everything seems to be OK so far. I have not "flown" around to review the changes but that will add to the excitement next Sunday.

P.S. thanks for setting aside the Parking spots for myself and Cliff.

  3. Just flew from Terhan, Iran to Kashi, China 1206.3 Km. Nice trip over some Beautiful Mountains. Having a little trouble reducing my Pics because of my 3000+ x 1000+ pics size. But I'll figure it out someday.

If you are interested there is a free image program called IrfanView. I does a wonderful job of converting and sizing one or many image files at once. Also does panorama generation too! :P

  4. I plan to be flying FSX from Eagle Creek if that is the starting point. Please designate a parking spot for me.

I also believe that Cliff Hargrave will be flying with me so maybe you should hang onto one for him if he fails to see this post.

One question that I would like to pose.

I have a smaller light aircraft that I find ideal for this kind of flying. It is a Foxbat and flies at no more than 87 KIAS but can flex itself up to 90 or so in the yellow zone. Is there any reason that such an aircraft would not be acceptable for the Fly-in ?

  5. Great stuff Puppy !

I do have a suggestion to put forward that may already have been discussed elsewhere.

It has to do with the manner in which pilots are joining into the group flight and to which airport and maybe even when if there may be issues of overcrowding.

My suggestion is that each pilot be given a starting airport and position at that airport for them to

be at before connecting to the server. This reduces the issues of planes appearing on top of others and allows others to perhaps know who to expect at a particular airport and location.

  6. This weekend might be possible though. Let me know what times you'd be available. And any of the other guys that want to fly for an hour or so this weekend.

    Puppy

How are mornings for you ? My other flying group gets together around 1500Z which allows Europe and South Africa to be in the loop at reasonable afternoon hours for them.

I could certainly check the server for participants at about 1445Z ( 08:45 CST, 09:45 EST) on Saturday.

Let me know what times are best for you.

  7. PS: Nice Emma Field 2004 legacy trees and shorelines in FSX SP2, No?

    Hi Gary,

yes, nice trees. :P I removed Emma  because it's unusable on my system. I could live with the trees, but i have huge mesh problems with it.

On another note... I was just online with FSX! I've had FSX for well over a year already and this was my 1st time online with it.

I was totally, totally alone, so I'm going out tomorrow to buy a 50 gallon drum of mouthwash (the economy size) and around 200 packages of breath mints. Now that may work or it may not, but I'm doing everything I can think of to get others online with me. :?:

    Puppy (flying alone in Seattle)

Let me know when you are planning on being online. I am available some of the time most of the time

depending on whether or not I have time until I am back at work.

Jan 09, 2008 after 3:00 PM EST for an hour or two should be good for me.

  8. So, I assume that all in all there is no real exact formula to get kts to mph just close to it. And that is why I get 3 different readouts between the sft.Z key and the GPS and the air speed indicator

I am not sure why MPH is an issue as it really has no bearing on the flight speed given that the standard is for knots and distances are given in Nautical Miles (NM). The USA finally gave way to the International speed around 1970 and dropped MPH as a flight speed for the most part.

The differences between the GPS and the various other FS gauges or displays may be most attributed to the likelihood that you are looking at GS on the GPS which will reflect the GPS extrapolation of Ground Speed which may be different in many cases from both Indicated or True Air Speed given differences in barometric pressure, altitude, temperature, wind direction and speed.

When I check my FS usually the Shit+Z air speed closely matches the gauge IAS and my sim is configured for Indicated Air Speed on the gauges.

Also the various conversions have some exact values to use for the conversions that would by virtue of their assigned precision result in a rather accurate representation of the desired result.

There is always the issue of reduced precision and rounding that can affect the results of any conversion but if we all stick to the aeronautical standard then there should really be no issue.

  9. As an old mariner I can attest to the various descriptions provided here but what has not been very clear is that there 'were' various definitions of the knot used depending on who/where and when you were. For example at the time of my teachings the value of the NM was 6076.6 feet.

I believe that the International definition is now the standard and notwithstanding unit of measure conversions is defined as 1.852 kilometres per hour exactly.

The normal manner of writing the value is simply Knots as that word is defined as Nautical Miles per Hour.

    There are several Aeronautical terms for this speed too some of which may be well known but others less so;

KIAS - Indicated (Stating the speed as 120 Knots is redundant as KIAS refers to knots)

    KTAS - True

    KCAS - Calibrated

    KEAS - Equivalent

The there is the matter of Ground Speed which makes all of these much more interesting.

  10. As previously reported there were strange happenings around Dexterville earlier and things have gotten a bit hotter.

What does NASA like about EFC ? Are they concerned about someone taking over ?

Does FSX really have something to do with the X Files?

    Is Roswell close ?
