Pete Dowson Posted January 27, 2015 Author Report Posted January 27, 2015 Is it possible to install FSUIPC in FSX-SE only? I do not have FSX boxed in my new PC and I cannot install FSUIPC now. Installer is still looking for FSX. FSX-SE installed without a prior installation of FSX looks EXACTLY like FSX to any installer. The registry entries pointing to the install path are the same. That is all the FSUIPC4 installer needs! On one of my PCs I have only FSX-SE installed, and this is what the Installer finds: Looking in registry for FSX install path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0 Parameter"SetupPath" ... >>> OK! FOUND FSX! <<< ... SetupPath=E:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX If your FSX-SE was installed correctly, it would do the same! Somehow your registry is wrong. Have you used a windows restore point and gone back to a point before you installed FSX-SE? You shouldn't do that unless you are uninstalling it. If you haven't, then something went wrong during the install and you should report this to DTG on their Steam forum. Meanwhile, when the FSUIPC4 installer asked you to find the FSX.EXE, why didn't you? If you do this, then the Installer will actually offer to fix that registry entry for you! Pete
speedbird144 Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Thanks for the reply. All I did was deleted FSX boxed as suggested in many forums (uninstalled from Control panel and deleted all folders) and used CC Cleaner. Then I did fresh FSX-SE install. I did not install FSX-SE in default Steam location I created new folder for it in Steam library. FSX-SE installed with no errors. It worked fine before and registered FSUIC worked fine when I had 2 FSXs together. Sorry did not quite understand this: "Meanwhile, when the FSUIPC4 installer asked you to find the FSX.EXE, why didn't you?" During installation these windows open. Not sure whay do I need to open file location. It did not look like it asked me to find FSX

It worked fine before and registered FSUIC worked fine when I had 2 FSXs together. Well, sorry, but evidently CCleaner left something behind which messed up the FSX-SE installation. Maybe it doesn't delete the ProgramData, and AppData FS folders which FSX and FSX-SE both create, side-by-side -- there's three of them and they contain changing data like settings and scenery indices, so unlikely to be removed by CCleaner. I think you might want to check some other things too -- like whether there's just an FSX folder in your C:\ProgramData\Microsoft folder (as there should be), or an FSX-SE folder instead or as well, which would be wrong with a sole-install of FSX-SE. Sorry did not quite understand this: "Meanwhile, when the FSUIPC4 installer asked you to find the FSX.EXE, why didn't you?" During installation these windows open. Not sure whay do I need to open file location. Yes, and didn't you bother to read what the Explorer-style window say in its title? "FSX or ESP not found! Please locate and 'Open' FSX.EXE or ESP.EXE"? (I must remember to update that to refer to P3D instead of ESP!) If you know how to open files in Explorer then you should know what to do with such a request. If you don't know how to find and click on files, I can only ask you to refer to Windows help. [LATER] Ouch! I only just noticed this: Installer for FSUIPC4.DLL version 4.853 4.853 is VERY VERY old and doesn't support even P3D let alone FSX-SE!!!! (That's why it referred to FSX and ESP!). ALWAYS check for updates. The current version is 4.938f. You even posted your message in a thread which has a title telling you that you need 4.938 for FSX-SE!!!! :-( Pete
speedbird144 Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Pete. My bad. I am getting old  . I tried to installed version from my PC. I actually installed that version just a week ago and I thought that should have done the job. I just installed from the website and it's working. I think I am back in busyness. PS. I read everything you wrote  , something did not work due to my mistake and it causes further issues. Thanks for help.

Rather than takes pictures and place them in your messages it would be far better just to open the relevant files in an editor, like Notepad, then cut and paste the text into your message. In particular, I would like to see the complete FSUIPC4 Install log rather than the partial picture you've shown. From the little I can see, and the error in the previous message, I think you have a bit of a mess there, with the FSX-SE installation in the state it would be in if FSX was still also installed. This will not make it easy to install other add-ons UNTIL they've had their installers updated to deal with the different folders used by FSX-SE compared to FSX, so you'd be losing the main advantage of having FSX-SE installed without FSX. I can check this and tell you for sure if you will show me the Install log file. Pete
speedbird144 Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Thank you for your reply. As soon as het back to my PC I will post log file. I have same feeling that FSX has not been removed completely or properly.

Pete Dowson Posted January 27, 2015 Author Report Posted January 27, 2015 Does this help? Yes, it confirms 100% that the FSX-SE you have installed is installed in exactly the same way as if you also had FSX still installed. Here's the evidence: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator - Steam Edition\10.0 Parameter"AppPath" ... >>> OK! FOUND FSX-SE! <<< ... AppPath=G:\FSX\steamapps\common\FSX\ The pointer to FSX-SE is found in a Registry Key specifially for Steam Edition. When FSX-SE is installed on its own, this doesn't happen. it looks exactly like FSX. Installers unaware of FSX-SE will not find your installation. Further, you have separate FSX-SE folders in your AppData and ProgramData folders. In a proper FSX-SE sole install you'd only get the normal FSX folders: Found FSX_SE.CFG in "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-SE\FSX_SE.CFG" Found FSX_SE.CFG in "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX-SE\FSX_SE.CFG" I think that if you want to fix this you would have to uninstall FSX-SE, delete the FSX and FSX-SE folders in ProgramData and AppData (both in Roaming and in Local) and then try installing again. I might have forgotten something you should also delete, but if so, sorry, it's gone. Pete

I keep just few add-ons from FSX (PFPX, TOPCAT, Aivlasoft and Steve DX10 fixer) but they were installed in a separate drive. I have FSX-SE folder in AppData and Local folders. Not sure why FSX-SE folder was created instead of just FSX. I will delete FSX-SE again and try to install it again. Thanks again.

Tom-D Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 Not at present. Are you volunteering? ;-) I suspect I might shuck off 64-bit when that (inevitably?) comes to Prepar3D. Any volunteer will have a hard job with my code. I gave up commenting code many years ago. Too much typing! ;-) Regards Pete An often heard phrase in software house where I was once employed, "I never comment my code. It was difficult to write, it should be difficult to understand."

Braudoux Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Hi Pete I've just downloded both FSUIPC and WideFS to upgrade my system. But once I launched the install FSUIPC4.exe file, my virus scanner (360 Total Security) detected the folowing malware (HEUR/QVM18.1.Malware.Gen) and now I am forbidden to continue unless I move this file from the trusted zone. What also worries me is that Avast did not detect it... What is your advice? Thanks in advance Bruno

If you downloaded the package from here or on the Schiratti "Dowson" page, it is certainly okay, so it is what is known as a "False Positive" indication by the checker. You should notify the manufacturer and see if you can override it. Pete
Braudoux Posted January 30, 2015 Report Posted January 30, 2015 Thanks for your quick reply. I confirm that the file was downloaded from the Schiratti "Dowson" page. I sent a mail to the 360 Total Security team and I'm waiting for an answer.

maunalani Posted February 8, 2015 Report Posted February 8, 2015 Not sure what II am doing wrong. I am running FSX SE alone (no FSX). I am trying to install FSUIPC4 ver 4.938f and after installation I get the following message: FSUIPC4.dll version 4.938f installed into FSX! But it may not run because it is not included in the DLL.XML file. Please rerun this installer afer running FSX." I went back and ran FSX which loaded and ran fine - then went back to re install FSUIPC and go the same message. Did this a couple of times and alwarys get the same message. Not sure what to do.
Pete Dowson Posted February 9, 2015 Author Report Posted February 9, 2015 You'll need to show me the FSUIPC4 Install log, placed in your FSX-SE Modules folder. One thing I don't understand. you say " I am running FSX SE alone (no FSX)." but then shortly after " I went back and ran FSX". FSX? Or FSX-SE? I suspect, but I can't confirm without seeing the Install log, that you have a Registry entry for FSX and for FSX-SE. Did you first install FSX-SE before uninstalling FSX? If the registry entries say both are installed but one isn't really there, you'll get this spurious error because the Installer is trying to set both of them up. It won't do any harm (at least to FSUIPC), but can then only be corrected by removing the incorrect Registry entries. I could tell you a lot more with the Log (which is why the log is produced, incidentally!) Pete

Pete Dowson Posted February 9, 2015 Author Report Posted February 9, 2015 Sorry for the confusion, I am running FSX-SE. FSX was installed but uninstalled before I loaded FSX-SE. Here is the install log Well FSX wasn't sufficiently uninstalled to make it look like it wasn't there, and your SE installation is the same as it would have been if FSX was still installed (for instance it uses an FSX_SE.CFG file instead of FSX.CFG, and stores its flights in the Steam section of your Documents folder). Look, it is obvious from the log: Looking in registry for FSX install path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0 Parameter"SetupPath" ... >>> OK! FOUND FSX! <<< ... SetupPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX Looking in registry for FSX-SE install path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator - Steam Edition\10.0 Parameter"AppPath" ... >>> OK! FOUND FSX-SE! <<< ... AppPath=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\ See? The Registry has entries for both FSX and FSX-SE, but they now both point to SE! Further down you will see that FSUIPC installed for FSX first, then FSX-SE. The FSX install failed because it couldn't locate FSX.CFG file -- that is where your error comes from. The FSX-SE install was perfectly successful and would have certainly been reported as such. So why not believe it? Why do you doubt? If you don't want the spurious error and extra installation for FSX, you'd need to delete the Registry entry saying FSX is installed. i.e.the keys here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\10.0 In the next version of the Installer I'll try to suppress the error when it sees both paths point to the same place. Pete Dowson Posted February 10, 2015 Author Report Posted February 10, 2015 Note that FSUIPC version 4.939, now released, includes the same G3D crash fix for FSX-SE as included for FSX-MS. Pete
